Lost Easter Eggs

"What Kate Did" opens with a drifting view of beach life in the wake of the previous months of drama; jin emerging half naked from his tent and absorbing the pastel tones of a beach morning, getting the thumbs up from Hurley as Sun swoons in behind him; shifting to Sayid who is digging, alone, a solemn punctuation to the scope of dangers that exsist in their embyronic society.

Back at the hatch a delerious Sawyer asks for Kate, absently declaring "I love her" to Jack. It is immediately clear from Jack's reaction that the rivalry for Kate's affection is on. Meanwhile, Kate herself is up a tree getting some fruit. She is exhausted, fumbeling, she bends over to pick up her dropped fruit and raises to face a Black Horse. There is an expression of general shock, followed by puzzled recognition. Kate has seen this horse before.

The encounter triggers our regression to flashback land where young Kate sits on the steps of a modest little house flicking a lighter in the darkness. A pickup truck approaches and Kate helps her drunk dad into bed. There is a less than pleasant exchange that indicates dad may have a little molestation on his mind, and Kate leaves. As she drives away the house explodes.

CONNECTION ALERT: For a brief moment, as Kate is mounting her motorcycle, you can see what appears to be stables in the back-yard.

We catch up with Kate stopping off to visit mom who is waitressing late shift at a diner. She gives her mom an insurance policy and leaves, refusing to tell her mom what she has done.

Back on island time, Sawyer appears to be stabelizing. Eko tries to convince Ana, unsuccessfully, that she does have some support in the population-at-large. A despondent Sayid leads Shannon's funeral.

Back at the hatch a thoroughly out of it Sawyer attacks Kate, demanding "Why did you kill me?"

In the next scene, Locke and Jack enter the hatch to find the alarm blaring and Sawyer face down on the floor. With seconds to go Locke fumbles in the code and resets the timer, while Jack tends to sawyer.

Kate, meanwhile, is discussing the likelyhood of horses on the island with a seemingly skeptical Charlie. She stalks off, frustrated, and into flashback land again where she is being accosted in a ticket line at the blue bus terminal. It turns out the accoster is marshall Edward Mars who, after taking a mild beating from Kate, places her under arrest for murder. Turns out, her mother turned her in.

Jin FINALLY get's that hand-cuff off thanks to Locke. Michael discovers blast doors in the hatch designed to seal the station off, and questions their purpose. Locke tells him about the movie and Eko pops in asks if he can sit in on a viewing.

Jack catches up with Kate in the woods. She is breaking down and Jack tries to comfort her. With emotions boiling over, the kinetics shift to the romantic.

Back at the hatch Michael finds the film, and it's numerous skips, dubious while Mr. Eko is, not surprisingly, reserved.
