Lost Theories
Have viewers forgotten that the writers' strike is over and that TV is airing regularly again?  Nearly everything was down in the ratings last night compared to last week's numbers, including Ugly Betty, Grey's Anatomy, Survivor, and Without a Trace.  Unfortunately Lost also succumbed to this trend, with 11.14 million viewers catching "Something Nice Back Home" compared to the 12.4 million who watched "The Shape of Things to Come."  That's the lowest number of viewers for any Lost episode this season.  Here is the breakdown for the season so far:

"The Beginning of the End" -- 16.07 million
"Confirmed Dead" -- 15.06 million
"The Economist" -- 13.62 million
"Eggtown" -- 13.53 million
"The Constant" -- 12.9 million
"The Other Woman" -- 13.0 million
"Ji Yeon" -- 11.87 million
"Meet Kevin Johnson" -- 11.28 million
"The Shape of Things to Come" -- 12.4 million
"Something Nice Back Home" -- 11.14 million

maybe people just found other stuff to do while TV was on strike. i wouldnt be suprised if the writers shot themselves in the foot a bit, at least for a little while.

ratings are down for Everything. i mean, even idol.. i bet ratings will continue to drop for the remaining season, for every show (especially since the weather is getting better). hopefully they will be back to more normal in the fall/winter though

If the episodes continue to disappoint as this one did there will be at least one less viewer. This is the worst episode since Expose. I say that because absolutely nothing happened in this episode, Jack and Kate are living together, big deal. That was the only thing new that happened. Expose was a worthless episode because it didn't have anything to do with the rest of the casts' story lines.

Now that's just ignorant to say that Exposé was worthless and told us nothing about the rest of the cast.

The episode was a beautifully crafted flashforward embedded in a flashback.
- We learn that Nikki and Paulo are the first to find the Pearl station (on Day 24, at least 25 days before Locke and Eko got there), in which Paulo overheard Ben say that he would use Michael to lure Jack, Kate and Sawyer to him. Ben tells Juliet to have Tom cover the hatch with the Nigerian plane, creating the "?" that Eko and Locke later travel to in Season 2.
- Paulo also picks up a walkie-talkie left by the Others.
- Charlie told Sun that he was the one who kidnapped her as part of Sawyer's plan to get the guns, not the others.
- We learn a lot more about Arzt. Yeah, he wasn't a primary character or anything. But there's a pretty damned popular blog named after him.

Sure, Exposé wasn't the flashiest episode and was certainly head-scratching when it aired. But I consider Exposé to be the episode that separated die-hard Lost fans from causal ones.

I think that the problem of ratings lies with the time and the day. 10 pm is a hard time and I'll bet many people dvr it.

Some of us have no choice but to get it on iTunes. It would be nice if they'd be more punctual in getting it on there, too; I'm STILL waiting for it to be available (last week's was ready for download by Friday at 5 a.m.).

Sorry - griping... I wonder if they even factor us iTunes folks into the ratings long term.

And I wish people would stop threatening to jump ship at one disappointing episode. There's never been a show without a weak episode here or there (and everything is lame in comparison to Ben, so Jack's tummy trouble didn't have a chance). The season's been awesome, so even IF the epi is as bad as you say (which I doubt), it's going to end strong.

And Expose was a creepy Twilight Zone masterpiece.

I find it funny that people are still threatening to leave this show after being die hard viewers for 4 years. Especially after the stellar quality of the episodes thus far. How can you not be wowed by the 4th season.

I dont know about the ratings, why the whole world isnt watching baffles me.

Perhaps a lot of the hate for Something Nice Back Home comes from Kate & Sawyer fans who were just upset that Sawyer didnt end up with Kate or maybe other non "shipper" fans that are tired of the triangle all together. Like Hanto pointed out to the person who said SNBH is the worst episode since expose....we get a lot of stuff in this ep:
Jacks Dad!
Jacks Dad on the island, holding his grandson, only to be found by..his daughter (who before we found out for sure she was his daughter, was thought by some to be a useless character)
Jacks dad, in his sons office lobby...POST-ISLAND!....Hmmmm?, Why would the smoke alarm go off?
We learned that the island is very upset with Jack
Charlie visits Hurley Regularly...but he also hasnt been taking his meds....oh and Chuck told Hurley to tell Jack someones gonna visit him soon to.
We learn that Jin gets sun and ji-yeon of the island by threating Charlette AFTER they discover she understand Korean. Yep, Jin still has gangsta in him.
The fact that it seems like Sawyer no longer cares only for himself was evident in this episode again.
We got to see The Staff station again.
We learned the Lapidus is really trying to help.
We learned that not everybody communicates with each other on the freighter either....Miles' "I didnt sign up for this"
and, for as bad ass as The black smoke was in this last episode, it looks like it can only hurt you if it can see you. All of Keamy and his men were decked out in camo, perhaps thats why they are all still alive & unhurt, except for the one guy who was dumb enough to run....hence the reason the rest of the team was carrying him.

Perhaps the people who didnt like this episode, dont like Jack or Kate now, or say things like "im gonna quit watching" are just upset that they are not getting the show they want written for them. I dont know, all I know is that this episode was great and had many reveals that are very important as to what is going on.

I just got into Lost - it's so good. I know I can't always watch it on Thurs. so I watch in online- I know alot of people do that...
