I'm sure when 'Rutkowskilives' commented on our Bai Ling piece the last thing he expected was his words would wind up in 'Entertainment Weekly', but that is exactly what happened!  Rutkowskilives' comments were noteworthy enough for LOST scholar Jeff "Doc" Jensen to include them in his latest article, which appears in the Dec. 22 Issue of Entertainment Weekly.  Rush and buy copies for your friends and family Rutkowskilives, personal appearances in Entertainment Weekly make great Christmas Presents!  (I shudder to think of the impact on comment participation... poor database, there... there... it'll be okay...)

Oh... my... gosh.

I've appeared on television, been in a movie, had a radio show, been quoted in a newspaper, and have now had my words appear in an awesome magazine. I have lived a full life, and I turn 25 next month.

My jaw dropped when I saw that. The amazing thing is, that was the first time I had ever posted here after lurking and enjoying the site for a long, long time. There are many more that deserve the recognition far more.

I guess this is just testament to the Doctors' belief in the power of the fan community to make noise. Thanks for making my day, guys.

that is not the true rutkowskilives, i am rutkowslilves!

You will notice that the second rutkowskilives is to the real rutkowskilives what Ben Linus is to Henry Gale.
The true rutkowskilives would never, ever spell his own name incorrectly.

YAY!!!! This is so cool. I'm heading out shortly to grab a copy.

Don't let these fenry's fool you.
I'm the real Rtkowskilies

Then who am i?

That is quite possible one of the greatest things I have seen lately. This site is getting bigger and badder every day. Congrats rutkowskilives and Ella, really nice article and you have a cool website as well.

You're the Zombie Clone of Rutkowskilives from LOST season 8.
Stay away from me future brain eating man!

Also: I like the way you... I mean "I" wear my hair in the future. Guess I'll have to start slicking mine back soon.

i am the true rutkowskilives and i think im a total arsehole personally.

Oh my goodness, which Rutkowskilives is the real one? Who's the Bad Twin, I don't know which one to shoot (metaphorically of course).

LOST is never going to jump the shark! STOP IT!

Well, now that all the "Woo! We got a mention in the media" back slapping is done, it's just a pity it wasn't a more intelligent comment. The episode is still almost 3 months from airing, they've had an incredible history of getting really good people in for the small roles and it's a jump the shark moment? WTF?

Yeah. An actor's off-screen background will never lead to shark jumping, total misnomer.

I agree that they definitely could have taken far superior insight from this website than what I said about the decision to cast Bai Ling. That said, as overused as saying that something has jumped the shark has become, hearing about Bai Ling was the first time I ever thought Lost might be doing that because of the surrounding circumstances. I don't view the mystery of Jack's tattoos as being a story that really is crucial to understanding Lost, and more particularly, what is happening on the island. So (I very much hope I'm wrong) but what it looks like is that we're going to get a seemingly unnecessary story about Jack, featuring an attention grabber like Bai Ling. Just doesn't sit well with me. Again, I trust the Lost writers to deliver, but from what we know so far, that upcoming episode doesn't have the usual sizzle.

Even though you are world famous now Rutkowskilives, I have to disagree with you. I think that episode, from the lost moment, looks to be freaking awesome. And I have a feeling Jack's tattoos are going to be symbolic of some sort of branding, or giving over of himself. Whatever all those people have gathered there to see is going to be very significant, I feel. Regardless of the context, I don't think we should foreshadow Dr. Jack's Thailand time as trivial.

This comment has NOTHING to do with the article but have to get this out. I'm from Belgium so I can't view the tv-show your watching on a legal way but I have bin looking op on some mayor tv-companies an it looks to me like their all trying to have some of LOSTs succes, for example HEROES? If you just look at the preview and I quote "It's destiny..." Com'on this is over the top stealing quotes and Prison Break is not really copied, it's a totally diferent story but has some characteristics of LOST like the hidden messages, etc... B the way I a big Prison Break hater cause here (in Belgium) Prison Break is concurring Lost but ofcourse lost is off air for now, this is my opinion and now I am asking to you or Docartz (you rule dude) for his comment or to I don't know add an article about it,... Greetz Stef

Hey Stef. I don't personally take the tendency of Hollywood marketing/producing types to feed off each others concepts as hard as you do. It's an insult to our intelligence for sure, but LOST itself is not entirely original in its basis. On another note, I think that LOST really reinvigorated a genre that does have success from time to time: the serialized drama. I, personally, think they do it better than any other, but it is not their own creation so I don't take offense to other shows like Heroes trying to take their piece of the pie. I rather like Heroes actually :D

I have commented on this "Jump the Shark" thing before and I don't get it - is everyone using that phrase understanding what it means because it doesn't seem to be used correctly - for those who do not know, it is a term used for a show that is trying to stay on the air and clinging to life when it really needs to get canceled. It came from "Happy Days" when Fonzie jumped a shark on waterskis in an episode late into the shows long run. I don't understand why everyone is always using this term when it comes to LOST - LOST is no where near the point that it's barely hanging on and should be canceled - and how a guest appearance by Bai Ling could be considered a "jump the shark moment" is beyond me....

The phrase has proliferated to mean "bad creative decision", which is NOT what it means, as you said Lost in Florida, but it isn't so uncommon for new pop-culture terms to be misappropriated.

Thank you for answering my question docartz, but now I have another one is the "rivally" between shows like LOST - PRISON BREAK huge, like here in Belgium and what is the most rated or watched Show there ?

Greets Stef from Belgium

Stef, I think 'real' fans leave the rivalry up to the networks. I mean "My show is better than your show"... it just sounds a bit immature, right? I think any fan of any show is going to defend their show in the face of such criticism, but regardless of what numbers you throw back and forth its not going to change YOUR personal viewing habits, right? It's not a popularity contest, its personal choice.

That is 100% true but here in Belgium everybody is losing faith in LOST (unless me ofcourse even if the whole LOST cast dies and you only get to see the jungle and bores i'll still watch) But you got to understand it is frustrading to me to see al my friends say LOST sucks ...

Greets Stef from Belgium

By the way what is a "jump the shark" situation, could someone explain it to me please ... thank you

I am from the Netherlands so I had to download the 6 new episodes. I really loved them like I love the whole show. I hope fans do not lose faith in LOST because this is a show I will never forget, LOST I LOVE YOU!!!
