Lost Easter Eggs
There are many things that make the Nielsen ratings system absolutely useless and outdated, and one of those things is time-shifted viewing.  Though I always make a point to update you guys with Lost's day after Nielsen ratings, the truth is that many people don't watch the show live.  Millions more tune in after the episode has already aired thanks to awesome DVR technology, and those viewers don't get counted until much later.

So, while "Meet Kevin Johnson" initially pulled in about 11.28 million viewers, making it Lost's lowest rated episode of the season, there were an additional 3.5 million people who watched through DVR.  See, the ratings don't look so bad when you add in that number.

If you want to see a chart listing the shows that received the biggest DVR bumps, head on over to TVBytheNumbers.com.

The dvr market is really a lot bigger than that, especially with Lost. Everyone I work with, that watches it, DVRs it and watches it later, and I know there must be tons like me that watch it all the way through and then frame by frame my way through it the second time. DVRs are the cellphones of the era. I could see why anyone would really need it, until I got one, now I can't live with out it. Come on Comcast wheres the Terabyte Drives?????

Totally agree with you. I honestly do not understand why the Hollywood industry still allows Nielsen to drive the truck in that respect. While I DO understand that advertisers are the ones who look to Nielsen, I would still think that Hollywood would have "lobbied" for a change and made their protests known. It makes no sense to me how Nielsen is still considered the important factor. To me, their statistics do not mean an thing any longer.
