My sense is that the Orchid clip is intended as shown: a live action shoot of a canon clip, so a bit of both like most of LOST.

Several bits of the Q&A and Orchid clip really interest me. In particular, the response that Ben was on a mission somewhere when he was unintentional trapped in Danielle's net. My sense was that Ben's psyche talent including complex planning for future events and his easy tolerance of torture, strongly suggested that his captured was part of a complex plan ... seems not true, so I think less of Ben. We've seen other moments of Ben's failure - RichPundit

Okay in the orientation film Candle/Wickmand/Hourwax, whatever the hell he wants to call himself mentions that the Orchid is a station to designed to study the unique properties on the island that lead to a Casimir Effect.

From wikipedia:

In physics, the Casimir effect or Casimir-Polder force is a physical force exerted between separate objects, which is due to neither charge, gravity, nor the exchange of particles, but instead is due to resonance of all-pervasive energy fields in the intervening space between the objects.

The Casimir effect can be understood by the idea that the presence of conducting metals and dielectrics alter the vacuum expectation value of the energy of the second quantized electromagnetic field. Since the value of this energy depends on the shapes and positions of the conductors and dielectrics, the Casimir effect manifests itself as a force between such objects.

The Casimir effect is an outcome of quantum field theory, which states that all of the various fundamental fields, such as the electromagnetic field, must be quantized at each and every point in space. In a naïve sense, a field in physics may be envisioned as if space were filled with interconnected vibrating balls and springs, and the strength of the field can be visualized as the displacement of a ball from its rest position.

Casimir effect and Wormholes:

Exotic matter with negative energy density is required to stabilize a wormhole. Morris, Thorne and Yurtsever pointed out that the quantum mechanics of the Casimir effect can be used to produce a locally mass-negative region of space-time, and suggested that negative effect could be used to stabilize a wormhole to allow faster than light travel.

A similar analysis can be used to explain HAWKING radiation that causes the slow "evaporation" of black holes (although this is generally visualized as the escape of one particle from a virtual particle-antiparticle pair, the other particle having been captured by the black hole).

Okay, put this all in relation to LOST. There is a beyond strong electromagnetic field on the island.

There have been talks of being able to acess the island through some kind of worm hole, almost on another dimensional plane.

The ring lady who told Desmond he can't change fate when Desmond time travelled was named Ms. HAWKING.

There have been two sighting of Stephen Hawking's "A Brief History of Time and Space" which has a lot to do with time and space, obviously, as well as black holes.

Not saying that I'm buying into the cloning thing but could Candle have different names because he has been cloned? Maybe it is not the same man we are seeing each time after all...

Anyone picking up on the subliminals in this film? The first time I watched it I caught s frame of Gerald De Groot, then the second time around I caught a frama of the 'God loves you as he loves Jacob' image...

Additionally, with regard to the multiple names of our orientation host, it might be one way of keeping track of Dharma employees and their levels of 'initiation', much like the Pearl station film informed its occupants that they were to conduct a study on the occupants of the Swan, when in it was strongly suggested that the Pearl itself was the study. So if a Dharma initiate knew the orientation host as 'Candle' that would perforce mean that they were on a specific rung of the information ladder.
I'm just speculating off the top of my head, I havent scouted around for similar so I apologise if I'm re-treading already old trails.

Good stuff. Love the speculation. I find it interesting that Candle/Eurawachs/Wickmund (CEW) made sure the duplicate rabbits remained separated. With the talk of the covergence of Particles/Anti-Particles (or in our more familiar scifi vernacular, matter/anti-matter), could there be an explosive reaction if the two touched or got too close to one another? Is this getting us closer to figuring out what "the incident" was?

I could swear he says "Halliwax." When I first read "Eurawax," I thought it must be a joke if they were giving people names that sounded like what you find on a used Q-Tip.

I like Kong's speculation. It makes sense in this context: the people seeing this film have been given secrets others haven't, finding out the true purpose of the Orchid.

I originally thought Hourwax, then Doc put Eurawachs, but that doesn't sound right. I think your right it sounds more like Halliwax or Hallowax. The later has something to do with plants.

If he is hyping the Orchid, why is he wearing a jacket with the Swan on it?

The reason why they don't want the two rabbits to come into contact with one another is because they would annihilate each other producing a lot of energy. No two identical objects can occupy the same location in space time.

Sort of very strongly hints that time travel is possible as it is the only way to have two identical objects present in the same time.

What?!? I guess "Who cares if I shine? I'm a scientist, not an [actor]" isn't good enough? Ooooohhh....he's lying, that's it! Why would he know what's happening when the Bunny Riot happens and why would the assistant respond to his scientific questions if he was a freaking actor?

Jeebus, the number of times that info has been put right in front of LOST fans faces and they either don't believe it or go off on pointless theorizing is mind boggling. See: Is there really two Islands? after EMFTS.

Frankly, with all the missing bits and the stuff spliced in, I wouldn't be surprised if this was another Radzinski editing job.

hints of cloning

Doc, Doc, Doc. How many times and how many variations of saying "There will never be a mention of cloning on this show" (and spare me the "But...but....they'll be clever and call it "exact duplication of genetic material!!!") do TPTB have to put out there before people drop the cloning idea? To *me*, it's the exact same as someone saying "They're dead!" or "They're in purgatory!" or "It's all a dream", it gets the same level of eye-rolling.

Zach, thanks for the excellent summary, based in science. One of the possible effects of the Casimir Effect is being able to go faster than the speed of light (which is why it's important in terms of a way for humans to travel to the stars); to me, Bunny #15 has simply used the Effect and is able to occupy two places at once, using "other dimensional planes" as Zach mentioned. Hmmmm....Walt appearing in Shannon's tent?

I think that the LOST show writers, designers, etc. are losing their touch. I, like Jay, question why this guy is wearing a jacket with the Swan symbol on it for an orientation film for the orchid station (not hatch). Also, with the looking glass station drawing / schematics having "Looking Glass Hatch" written as the name of the station on it.

I don't think the jacket was a slip-up. The video seems very intentional about showing Candle (and whatever else he's called) putting the jacket on. Either it's a part of a joke video (which I hope it's not), or it's intentional.

Also, we miss out on the traditional orientation-style into. I realize that this video contains "behind the scenes" elements, but that only leads me to wonder how/where this video might be discovered on the show.

Possibly why Jack wants to get back to the island so bad...because he's still there? Jacob stuck between dimensions? ARGH...my head is beginning to hurt again.

Finally, something other than "John From Cincinnatti" for me to obsess about this summer. I think the video puts Naomi's claim that flight 815 crashed into perspective. If we are to believe that the same being could exist in the same room, then certainly the same beings could exist on the same planet (even if one plane of them has expired). Could this be the result of a DHARMA experiment that continues but is neglected by the inhabitants of the Island? Or were the magnetic properties of the Swan used to open wormholes? The battle of Science vs. Faith rages in the context of the story, but I don't think the appearance of the Losties on the Island is mere coincidence. Could "Faith" be manipulating "Science" for its own agenda? Has God accessed the power of the Island to save the World? Or is this just another mind "f" from DHARMA using bunnies and the same stencil? I have an eerie feeling that this isn't the last DHARMA video we'll see this summer.

Can we use the Kasimir effect to bring Lost from it's current position, floating towards friday, to securely back to Wednesday?

This was amazing amazing stuff. After watching this, I was like "Oh -- how much I have missed Lost! :)".

I never expected this -- and it looks like the island has much more to it than we know --(I am not into spoilers, so I dont keep track of any..)

I was thinking these guys might be rescued beginning of the next season, but it looks like there is some way to go!

very nice vid. I hope its connected to the canon. If it is, it may be the temple that the Others were headed to. I do hope that tackling the nature of the magnetic stuff in the Swan isn't ignored along with the changing of the writers from Javi Grillo-Marxuach to Monica Breen & Allison Schapker.

I have a therory along the lines of some of the posts, based on the altrenate dimension theory, or the time travel theory.

If we remember in one of the episodes we see ben as an airline security at the check in, maybe this was the alternate dimension that they were originally in and they have passed through the wormhole or whatever it is and entered this alternate dimension where ben is what he is now.

The reason they cant leave the island, or why ben doesnt want them to leave the island is becoz they may bump into themsleves and casue a paradox and do whatever a paradox does

The reason why Kate is not in prison, is becoz she has assumed here alternate self's life, where in that dimension she may be a law obiding citizen and not done what she did.

he reason Jacks father is supposidly alive, he didnt die in that dimension.

The reason jack is not a hero as he so calls himself, becoz he didnt do what his alternate self did.

The reason he says they werent supposed to leave the Island is becoz they were supposed to be dead, and that they shouldnt have interfered with the lives of their alternate selves.

The person in the coffin is probably someone on the island who in this dimension has is still alive and has had to change his name so not to complicate his life with his alternate self.

The reason why Kate wouldnt go to the funeral maybe its becoz she has to keep her self distnat from any of the island ihabitants to keep her "New life" from her past "Island life"

The black monster smoke is death when someone in that dimension dies, then the smoke is killing the alterante self. (poor theory but just a guess)

There are other reasons that suggest this theory but there are some holes in it,  such as how the ship got to the island if niomi is from their orginal dimension as she suggested they were all dead.

Desmond failed to "push the button" for a certain amount of time, which caused a electromagnetic disturbance at the same time when the flight 815 was in the area. Could this have caused the space-time split? One version of 815 crashing into the ocean and the second one being torn apart and smashed into the island?

Oh yeah, another thing. Remember the future smashed-up Jack after being caught stealing the drugs and confronted by a fellow doctor? The guy asked Jack if he was drinking where Jack said they should bring his father down to compare who the drunk is. Should not his father be dead?
