The last five minutes of LOST's third season will change the way we view the game. This is the proclamation of Damon Lindelof himself. Other vague comments along the lines of "the story will take a turn nobody ever expected," amongst other things, have fans theorizing into the wastelands of the the absurd. Are there are any clues out there as to what this shocking few moments may contain? Here is the official press release for "Through the Looking Glass."
"LOST" "Through the Looking Glass" - Jack and the castaways begin their efforts to make contact with Naomi's rescue ship, on the season finale of "LOST," WEDNESDAY, MAY 23 (9:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. "LOST" stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Henry Ian Cusick as Desmond, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Elizabeth Mitchell as Juliet, Dominic Monaghan as Charlie and Terry O'Quinn as Locke.
Guest starring are M.C. Gainey as Mr. Friendly/Tom, Tania Raymonde as Alex, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Blake Bashoff as Karl, Andrew Divoff as Mikhail, Ariston Greene as Jason, Sonya Walger as Penny, Mira Furlan as Rousseau, Brian Goodman as Pryce, Marsha Thomason as Naomi, L. Scott Caldwell as Rose, Sam Anderson as Bernard, Lana Parilla as Greta, Tracy Middendorf as Bonnie, James Lesure as Dr. Hamill, Nigel Gibbs as funeral director, Loreni Delgado as pharmacist, Larry Clarke as customer and Kate Connor as doctor. "Through the Looking Glass" was written by Carlton Cuse & Damon Lindelof and directed by Jack Bender.
THE CAST
The most provocative guest star is (in more ways than one!) Since this is a Jack centric episode we wouldn't expect to see Penelope Widmore as anything other than one of those fleeting character crossings that LOST is so famous for. Edward Kitsis, one of LOST's many talented producers, made the comment at one point that Jack has a very huge secret in his past tied to the "snake in the mailbox" that awaits us in the final five minutes. Could it be a connection with Penny? Or, is Penny coming to the island? In that case do Damon's comments regarding things not being what they seem indicate that Penny is on the dark side of what is going on?
Tracy Middendorf as Bonnie is making her second appearance on the gust star list. She also plays the part of Bonnie in "Greatest Hits." This implies that she is an island character, but of course all bets are off. It could be that this common thread is the answer to the question of just how Charlie finds himself in the position of being tortured. Could Bonnie be the person Naomi was referring to when she told Mikhail she was "not alone"? Or will she in fact share time in Jack's flashback as well. If that were the case, you would have two character's crossing. Naomi is in Charlie's flashback for "Greatest Hits." I'm still going with island/Naomi related character. Possibly a key other we have yet to meet.
But wait, there's more! Lana Parilla as Greta also appears both in "Greatest Hits" and "Through the Looking Glass." It's becoming very apparent that if nothing else Damon and Carlton are trying to load up the island with some beautiful women! If you're keeping track, that is two women that cross from "Greatest Hits" to "Through the Looking Glass," and we have no idea why. They could be others. They could be beach folk targeted for kidnapping by the fertility obsessed others, or they could be members of some elite femme death squad lead by the mysterious Naomi.
On the more trivial side of things, actress Kate Connor who plays "doctor" in "Through the Looking Glass" played "nurse" in an episode of Heroes this year. Yes, I know that crossing is meaningless, but knowing the connection between good friends Tim Kring and Damon Lindelof, you know there is a private snicker in there somewhere.Aside from all of this, Dominic Monaghan is still listed in the cast. Does this mean he survives? Or is ABCMedia net simply using the stock cast list? As for the plot, while Damon has promised us a head on collision between the LOSTies and the others he never told us which 'faction' of the others they would clash with, nor what battleground the war would take place on. Certainly it looks from the description that "Jack's plan to get rid of the others" has been modified quite heavily. Could it be that Mr. Lindelof was throwing us a red herring with talk of a bloody confrontation?
Comments
Intense! I am really looking forward to the Finale as well as this weeks episode. Lost has come full circle and is a can't miss for me once again!!!

HOLY FREAKEN MOLY!!
With so much speculation abound, one wonders WHAT THE HELL is spoiler and WHAT THE HELL is foiler.
I must say that last years Finale was an utter letdown so this one better make me poop my pants.
The most intriguing part is that it is a Jack flashback which makes little sense in the grand scheme of things as he has had two already this season. MUST BE SOME GIGANTIC SH*T going down thats for sure.
Gotta stop reading spoilers...
No really I do...
HOnestly I really should...

Interestingly enough, Bonnie and Greta are guest starring in Charlie's episode as well....are they Others or is the finale jam packed with character cross-overs?
I'm thinking that the finale is not only a jack flashback....

Notice Dominic Monaghan is cast.....is he staying by chance? Hes not cast as a guest star...

"'the story will take a turn nobody ever expected,' amongst other things, have fans theorizing into the wastelands of the the absurd."
Well, why wait. Let's begin the fun now. How about this for the absurd?
Since:
Jack walks among us, but is not one of us.
Jack was not on Jacob's (Dharma's) list.
Then:
Jack is Penelope's plant into the Dharma project. She could have found out the plan for the next shipment of "lab rats" to the island through spies in her daddy's company. She could have gotten Jack on the plane and have him marked for placement on the island. Therefore, Jack would also know that Naomi is lying.
And, The song that Charlie writes while being tortured is a big hit on the outside world.

absurd.... like ben being born on the island that once was mainland oregon in an alternate universe? or in the clouds...an island in the clouds, hovering gracefully above portland?
that is what i'd call absurd. how absurd are we talking here?
Posted By wickedslip | May 7, 2007 7:40 PM
Jack is an Other and has authority over Ben.
The song Charlie writes while being tortured is called "My Humps."
Posted By Rye | May 7, 2007 8:07 PM
Jack landed hundreds of feet away from the plane in the pilot, landing in a bamboo grove that was barely disturbed. Jack truly does not walk amongst them. Perhaps we are finally going to get some explanation for this. (Don't forget to vote!)
Posted By DocArzt | May 7, 2007 8:17 PM
Charlie may only appear in the 'previously, on Lost' reprise. They'd still need to give Dominic Monaghan a full credit for that, wouldn't they?
Posted By Clovis Sangrail | May 7, 2007 11:56 PM
Agggghhh!!! It's too much! First off, I've gotta believe that, as cool as it is to think that there was a master plan, Jack waking up in a calm bamboo grove had MORE to do with a "Cool opening" then part of the overall mythology.
Remember, they had no idea that this show would even be bought serialized after the pilot (this is, after all, one of the most EXPENSIVE shows to make).
Second, with all the the rumors about who dies, it seems clear to me that:
- Rousseau dies. It's a no brainer. Just trust me.
- Ben dies. HE'S actually the audience FAVORITE who dies. It has to be this way, and most everything that has happened the past 4-5 episodes spells this out clearly.
- Does Charlie actually die, or is this all some damn setup? Who knows - we know 1 original tribe member dies, maybe two, which brings me to...
- Because of the time travel setup, there are NO, and I mean NO guarantees that when we hear that "4 or 5" people die in the finale, they do actually die... to exist and return next season, from whatever alternate timeline these dudes created. Which brings me to my last point thought -
- Someone, and I don't know who (Boone, Shannon, Libby, Ethan, etc.) will be back, in the flesh, as a regular castmember (NOT only in flashbacks), early next season.
Anybody want to bet?
Posted By Nico | May 8, 2007 12:56 AM
C.C and D.L said that once someone dies they stay dead - apart from flashbacks.
But if its true MR EKO (EST REX)

Which group will Jack be fighting?
1- The Others: Ben, Alpert, Tom, Locke etc.?
2- The dishevelled (possibly subterranean) island dwellers, who may be ex-Dharma survivors or simply original inhabitants?
3- Naomi's 'rescue' team, who are just as likely Dharma operatives here to purge the hostiles (Ben's group) who have had control of the island for the last 15 years or so?
Will the schism among the tailies involve a choice between aligning with Jack and joining Locke on a pilgrimage to the heart of the island (and also to safety)?
What role will Walt play in the finale?
Who's excited??

im going to have to agree with tabularasa that jack is a plant by penelope, as its the only real valid gamechanger I have heard, thats plausable.
Sayid and Ben are goners, Charlie im not so sure on.

In the episode “The Brig” a lot can be told by facial expressions. More specifically Richards, Cindy’s, and one or two of the Others. Think back to the scene where Locke fails to kill his father, he steps down from the sacrificial pole and walks away in shame. The surrounding Others facial expressions have two sides to them. 1.) Some of the Others look at Locke with disappointment. 2.) Some of the Others look at Locke with a slight smile of approval (Cindy, Richard, and some unknown person). This one quick scene tells me that the Others will break off into two groups, Ben will have his followers, and Locke will has his own (including Richard, Cindy, maybe Tom, maybe Sawyer?). Just as 815 will split into groups, the two leaders being Jack and Desmond.
Now think back to the conversation on the hill top between Locke and Richard. Locke asks him something to the extent of “Why me?” … Now that’s when u need to go back and watch Richard’s reaction to that question, his face and the way he answers it means so much. He is tempted to tell Locke just how important he is and that some of the Others including himself have been waiting for him to join them. Instead, he looks away, bites his lip, and decides that Locke isn’t quiet ready to be told this information (think of Neo in the matrix). Locke is the one they’ve been waiting for, he just isn’t ready to hear that yet, so Richard chooses his words carefully, using the word “Special” when we know he means much much more then that.
The Others and the survivors would have to trust each other and team up in order to prepare against Dharma (who is coming because communications went down and the button isn't being pushed ((Naomi is Dharma)) )

I don't see that happening AT ALL. If that is the game changer, then this will be one boring finale. People, listen to what they are saying, you all are stuck on simple things like someone being a plant, they are focused on much larger issues like time not being what we think it is and other weird pseudo science type explanations. Think Big!
Posted By T | May 8, 2007 7:54 AM
Then offer something up. Since we are to be "...theorizing into the wastelands of the the absurd." Venture into the absurd.
I think the absurd thing will be after Charlie is dead, his song, that came to him on the island, is a big hit in the outside world.
And, if Jack was not supposed to be on the island, but was placed there as a mole for Penny, then that would be a game changer.
...so would finding Marvin Candle still on the island. But, I am holding firm to Jack being a plant. It explains a great deal about his actions on the island.
Posted By TabulaRasa | May 8, 2007 8:33 AM
Jack is not a plant of any sort! We KNOW the plane was accidently crashed when Des missed entering the numbers in time.
Des is not a plant of any sort! We KNOW his boat crashed on the island by accident. He was captured by Inman and is NOT a part of Dharma.
Naomi is not a Dharma! She was sent by Penny. That is why she has a picture of Desmond and Penny.

I think you're in for more surprises than the rest of us for the next three weeks! Enjoy!
Posted By gusteaux | May 8, 2007 9:23 AM
Ah EasyGoer, except that Widmore is connected to Dharma so Penny's mission to find Desmond could have been discovered and hijacked by her father. Naomi's account could just as easily be a convenient subterfuge. If Sayid is suspicious then so am I...
Posted By Dolbach | May 8, 2007 9:28 AM
I agree that Jack is not planted by Penny. The plane crashed because of Desmond not pushing the button. I don't think that Naomi is Dharma. She probably works for one of the Widmore companies, but then again she said she hadn't met Penny. Maybe she works for Paik's company. I need to rewatch the episode, but do we know it was Penny and not her father who sent her?

This is a good point, as Ben may have veered off the path he once set for his "Band of Others" (spinoff HBO series). He may have tried to get Locke to kill Cooper, so that those who are disenchanted with him would no longer look at Locke in such high regard (Alpert says, "He was trying to humiliate you"). The disappointed faces would of course be those who are loyal to Ben...
Posted By cap10tripps | May 8, 2007 9:40 AM
Another clue from the Brig tells us that Ben know's of Richard's influence on Locke. Ben knows that Richard had a little chat with locke, the clue is again, in a facial expression and in the sharp words he uses...
Locke:(to ben as ben is walking away back turned heading out with the rest of the Others leaving locke behind): "If your trying to make me look bad infront of everyone or trying to Embarrass me-"
Ben: (doesn't turn around to even look at locke untill Locke says the word "embarrass" ((which is what Richard told him was Ben's intensions)) Ben then quickly whips around faces locke and raises his voice in question: "NOW where would you get a Ridiculous idea like that?!"
That's really all Ben needed to hear, he knows damn well this wasn't Locke's train of thought the moment Locke uttered those words. Ben's very quick, very sharp, he catches EVERYTHING. He knows Richard is now supporting Locke... So just watch out for Ben, the master chess player. Can't wait to see what's up his sleeve next.
Go back and re watch this, you'll quickly understand what im saying, and you'll see for urself!

Dharma is coming, as i stated a while ago. There is always a contingency plan when comm goes down, and for the comm on the island to go down, it can be for 2 reasons (1) A typhoon or tsunami knocks comm down. (2) There was a breach of security. Well Dharma knows it had nothing to do with weather as I am sure they know how to monitor weather reports. There is going to be a battle for the island, and penelope is going to appear in a jack flashback, or on the island. I think the game changer may be that the others and 815ers band together to fight off dharma, but we know that aint happening...

Behind the curtain there is a mirror...
So when Ben reveals Jacob to Locke he sees a magnificent and fully realised version of himself.
Then it's up to us to decide whether it's literal or a metaphor; whether it's a manifestation of cerberus, a psychic vision, or a future John Locke who has travelled back through time - perhaps as the result of some cataclysmic event at the end of season 6?

I'm betting these losties die:
Charlie, lots of speculation, just too much for it not to be true
Kate, because they are tight in the outside world
Hurley, lots of hints dropped that he is a big part of the finale, and now rumors that some fan favorite sacrafices himself. I won't be sad if he goes, I don't like his character at all.

Hello friends,
A couple of minutes ago i found a little movie on the ThEmIsFiTiShErE of the newsflash that Oceanic 815 was found. I'm not 100% sure that it's real, but it's impresive! Any thoughts on this???

O.K. Locke is dead, or so it seems. Ben helped to murder everyone in the Dharma Initiative because he had an abusive father. He even helped to kill the girl who loved him. Richard Alpert is an original islander and ageless, so it seems. Now we know why the female Others had uterus' that seem 70 to 80 years old. They are at least that old. The original islanders may have been survivors of the crash of the "Black Rock" and the island made them immortal, at least those who survived. Did the Dharma folks try to experiment on them and did they rebel? Is that what started the war between them. The island reveals ghosts to Ben and Jack, and even Kate. Does that make them "Others material"? Is Jacob a ghost? Perhaps he was the captain of the Black Rock and still leads his crew. Maybe Sun isn't going to die because she isn't an Other and therefore isn't too old to have children. Will Jacob have a spin-off show of his own? A one hour episode will have 5 minute vignettes of Jacob's empty chair interrupted with 10 minute commercial breaks. O.K., that's a smart-ass critism of the heavy commercials in this last, and some other episodes. Why can't they just charge more per minute and have more story time? I'll write more when I think of more to say.

I just have this weird feeling that part of the big surprise is going to be the revelation that Jin speaks fluent English...
Posted By Bob Wainwright | May 10, 2007 10:07 AM
Yeah, but when they appear to die but don't because the fence was set on stun, what does that mean? Or when Ben was born on the island and suddenly isn't because he was lying, what conclusions can you draw?
