Tons of freeze frames of extreme interest from the preview for 3.20 "The Man Behind the Curtain" including what is no doubt a frame of the man we will come to know as Jacob (maybe).

Right Click Here do download in Divx (3.7mb)

YouTUBE and Screen Shots Beyond the Link!

This episode is the long rumored, much anticipated Dharma flashback.  Technically it is Ben centric, but it will also reveal a ton about the surprising true purpose of the Dharma initiative.   Since we still seem to be experiencing some bugs with the embedded Divx, here is the promo in YouTube:

ABC was very kind to us freeze frame fanatics, inserting a ton of little tidbits including a very creepy little image of Mr. Alpert, who I am calling as Jacob right here, right now.  Face it, his little meeting with locke on the hill, he is a master manipulator.  And check out how creepy and intense he looks in this first freeze frame!  Jacob material all the way.  This fits with the "Hiding in plain site" rumor that has circulated concerning Jacob.

Ah, the Work Men at work.  These guys must have thought they had the best job in the world.

There's our friend Dr. Candle, or is it Wickmund?  Maybe i will be something completely different yet again.  Note the casual duds.  Hard to tell but that looks a bit like the hydra logo on his jacket, but might be the swan.  This looks like it might be from another orientation film.

Dudes in gas masks.  This seems to indicate that Kelvin's gear wasn't so much of a put on afterall.

Three Dharma buses, each fully stocked with beer and Three Dog Night 8-tracks.

Baby Ben?

Ummmmmmm.... yeah.

Still can't quite figure this out.  Looks like some sort of building.  Maybe another hatch?

Hey!  Isn't that Michael Emerson's wife?

Looks like orientation day for these Work Men!

The top picture looks like Richard with long hair.

Dude, is that young Richard Alpert on the top!

Awesome!

Where is Jacob?

Whos Richard ???

I dont remember a Richard

THANKS FOR POSTING THOSE!! I was curious about those flashes. the next to last, the woman, i don't know if it's because the picture is bright but she looks scarey.lol

the sound isn't working on mine.

Watch it again you can see the Sub is not destroyed at all!

GOD I LOVE LOST

Alright, someone mentioned after "D.O.C." that they saw the screen jump, and they thought it was purposeful. Not only did my screen jump at the end of tonights episode, but I heard a voice say something right before the screen turned to black (confirmed by someone watching with me). Could someone please rewatch the end of "The Brig" and tell me what the voice said???

I love the young Batmanuel, I mean Alpert (any Tick fans on here?) shot, and the person in the gas mask. The shot of that ghost-like woman (Ben's mom?) has me thinking about Ben's statement of "the things this island can do."

ya know...while watching The Brig tonight, and thinking about little snippets of spoi/foi-lers...I found myself fairly convinced that Richard Alpert is Jacob...I'm pretty sure, from your comments Doc, that you agree?

but man on man...what an episode tonight was, and what we have to look forward to next week...

I would love to know what others make of the 'ghost-like' image, toward the bottom of the pics...anyone?

I'm convinced Richard is Jacob. He seems to be purposefully attempting to undermine Ben's influence, whereas up until now he has appeared to be Ben's lackey. Whenever he's on screen he has an i-know-something-you-don't look on his face. It's kinda like Japanese businessmen...in meetings they'll often have the junior guys sit at the table and do the negotiating while the people they're negotiating with are totally unaware that the guys with the REAL power are sitting against the wall taking notes.

Doc,

Next episode looks amazing. We finally get to see what Ben and the other hostiles were like before Dharma arrived, we finally get to see how they managed to take control of the island, we finally get to see things we've been waiting for since season 1 and season 2 premiere.....

My question to you, is have you seen this episode and could you tell me if you think it should have been the finale? It seems some stupid to have this episode be an hour long while Jack gets the finale.

Not to turn this into another rant but come on who can honestly say that Jack deserves a 2 hour flashback episode? What could they possibly reveal that compares to next episode? Jack isn't an other, he's not Jacob nor was his father, so what possible revelation can happen?

Oh and I definetely agree that I think Richard is Jacob....at least I hope he is. I somehow feel they're doing the predictable route of Jacob just being a ruse by Ben or Ben being Jacob...that would suck.

I think that broke down facility that Ben brings Locke to is the long awaited Radio Tower, and I think thats where Jacob resides (if he is not Richard) which would explain why we haven't seen it since it was first mentioned in early season 1. It looks different than a hatch and different than the Flame so I bet it's the radio tower.

I don't know why Jacob whould pretend to be Ben's underling and try to stage a coupe. If he is unhappy with Ben and he is worshipped like a god why doesnt he just depose Ben himself, why does he need the help of people like Locke and possibly Juliet who had mentioned some people want a change.

If he is so great why is he powerless to stop Ben?

Wasn't it mentioned that Jacob is going to be super pissed with Ben about not securing Locke? Maybe at that point Jacob/Alpert will kill Ben (cliffhanger). It was Alpert who convinced Locke to use Sawyer, so I guess it would have all been a ruse (created by Ben and Jacob/Alpert) to kill the real Sawyer. If this is the case, then why???

The sub is in the Dharma flashbacks

Sorry to point the obvious but Jacob looks like Jesus Christ.

But then again its 4 in the morning and i have been working for too long for my finals and i am near halucinating...

Maybe Ben is taking a trip down memory lane with Locke, showing Locke his old house, thats what the building looks like to me a broken down old house.

What did that voice say??? Doc???????????????

I know it's been beaten to death, but...
What if Jacob is little more than a title? I think Locke could be "Jacob," and I'll explain why. I'm thinking Biblically here, so bear with me, but in the days of ancient Israel, kings were rooted out by prophets. The prophets would look for signs from God and annoint the new king based on that. What if Ben is the "prophet" of the Others, and they are desperately searching for their new "Jacob?" Suppose, since he was miraculously healed, Ben believe Locke has been chosen by the Island to be their new "Jacob?" So in "The Brig," we see Ben testing Locke's will and fortitude to see if he's really the one. It's far-fetched, and I'm not totally sold on the idea myself, but I'll put it up as some food for thought.

i hope there is a jacob, but i fear its just trick and jacob doesnt exist

After further review of the clip it looks like Locke and Ben are walking to the creepy house. Then Lock is startled and points his flashlight towards the creepy lady in white. Finally it seems that the creepy door Ben opens is that of the creepy house. Did I mention the creepiness of the situation? What the hell is going on? My brain is trying to force its way out of my head!!!

I was thinking the same thing tonight. Like maybe Richie and Ben know something we don't. Maybe the others know he is Jacob ("you are someone special"), but Locke must not know this yet (which is why Ben humiliated him). Locke is not ready. The whole killing Sawyer was a ruse. Jacob can't be a murderer (the ruse shows his compassion), but getting James to do it shows his loyalty to what must be done. This also harkens back to post quarantine door Des asking, "Are you HIM," and Locke responding, "Yes."

in the picture with Dr Candle, doesn't one of the Dharma workers look very much like Mr Linderman (Malcolm McDowell) on Heroes??

LoL 1miletogo I completely agree....that sure does look like Linderman.

Anyway I think that creepy house is the radio tower and if Richard isn't Jacob, then Jacob resides there which is why since early season 1, we haven't seen it.

By the way could the theory of the dead being the whispers be true? Could the dead stay on the island and the ones watching the events and are whispering?

Richard has definitely gained gravitas after this episode. It is hard to find out who is manipulating whom.

Is Ben was trying to get Locke to kill someone to bring him to the dark side, or Richard trying to keep him in the light? Is the title Jacob like the one in the Matrix where Neo could only be the One if he believed he was?

Anyone else hear smokey after James threw up?

Cap10, Where is the jump that you are talking about?

Right at the very end when Locke lifts the body. What I'm more intrigued about is the voice. I know I heard it (the person I was with heard it to). I thought it said Kane (or something that sounds like that)...

I have watched the end 8 times and am not seeing or hearing anything abnormal when Locke goes to the body. I hear possible whispers or smokey throughout that last scene, and at other times that Locke and Ford are in the Jungle.

Does this mean that I have passed the point of sanity in my obsession for this show?

I heard it right before the screen turned black. Maybe a voice saying James???

I even put on my earphones, and all I hear is the music escalating then the familiar lost ending.

I definitely here some smokey like noises or whispers at the river and at the black rock.

There has been all this talk about Ben being the man behind the curtain and Jacob being his ruse. What if Jacob really is a ruse but Ben is not the man behind the curtain. What if it is Richard pulling the strings, but not even Ben knows it?

Does that make sense? I think I might have just confused myself....

Pic #8 is definitely made of metal, and looks somewhat like a tank, but I doubt it. Next week is going to be a great episode. I don't know if I can wait!

I'm starting to think that maybe it was aa error in the local station. Anyway, I saw more freeze frames on Dark UFO. One in particular looks like Libby. I'm also feeling stronger that DHARMA ("I'm not alone") is coming...

Oh boy......anyone else worried that that little stick figure voodoo doll is Jacob? I could just picture Ben showing that to Locke saying thats Jacob and we're all like "Ah f%ck now this show sucks".

Unless I'm completely wrong, didn't Damon and Carlton say that Jacob is someone that we have never seen before? If that is true, why does everyone say that Jacob is Jack, Locke, or Richard?

is it just me or does youtube never work for the tailsection? i only have this problem on here. youtube works fine and videos work fine on other sites.

just me having this problem?

I don't think Alpert did anything tonight to indicate that he is against Ben. What, because he told Locke that Ben was being a manipulator? I thought it was just more manipulation at Ben's behest. Keep in mind that the conversation ended with Alpert giving Locke another idea for how to kill his dad - this is the same conclusion Ben wanted: dead dad.

my prediction: next week Locke will open that door again (to see Jacob?) and it will be... Locke's dad! Alive and kicking!

I still stand by my theory that smokey is Jacob. Smokey is a shape-shifter and Jacob is one of its forms.

I can't wait for next week's episode! Many answers are supposed to be answered!...I don't think jacob is the smoke monster...the producers said that the monster issue will be addressed only at the end of the show...I believe Jacob is a "real" person, above Ben, and that we haven't seen him yet...Didn't the producers mention that jacob is a person we haven't seen yet?

Hey I'm sure somebody pointed this out before, and I've heard that the producers removed it after the first time the episode was shown - but that logo in the last picture is the same one that was on the Dharma shark :)

I inverted the gas mask picture. It looks like juliet inside, or someone with big feminine eyes.

Richard is definitely someone bigger than he was shown until today!! - I think. When Ben showed Juliet in Mikhail's house her cured sister on the screen, who was there shooting and showing the newspaper, and to whom Ben was speaking on the satellite radio!!!!!!???

NAMASTE means "Here we are" in GREEK!!!

Did anyone else think that the scene with Danielle was a bit strange? I know she's a strange lady but that seemed like a bit of a throwaway scene - what was the purpose? What does she need all that dynamite for? Is she preparing for battle....

When we find out more about her, I think it's going to be big! She seems to be the only character remaining from season 1 that will still know very little about.

AREM is correct damon and carlton have said jacob is not somebody weve seen before so doc and everyone else Richard cant be jacob unless damon & Carlton are lieing to us which i cant see any reason for them too.

Danielle has John Locke fever and is going to blow The Others up and get Alex back.

Richard is just who he says he is:Richard. The long hair just confirms that he's in the flashback on the island. VERY slim chance he is Jacob. Think to when Ben told Juliet that Jacob would cure her sister HIMSELF. She got this look of recognition in her eyes. And then he had Richard stationed in Miami to film her sister in the park. 2 different people. Plain and simple.
I think Jack is Jacob and I think that revelation will be the game changer.
Last night's episode was beyond awesome. Josh Holloway proved his acting chops last night...his rage is better than Matthew Fox's crying on cue....I even wanted to kill Cooper after he ripped that letter!!
Great show..

Doesn't the guy in the background of the Marvin candle image look like the one buried where the parachute was? I cant remember the name but it could be.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned the "Hell" reference? We were pretty confused... are they supposed to be in hell? The big sign that says NAMASTE in next weeks preview.. has anyone noticed namaste is an anagram for ME SATAN?

I need a source on Cuselof saying that Jaco is someone we have not seen. I personally cannot find even a shred of this rumor. If you can site me a source, please do.

The reference that most people point to is the podcast a couple of weeks ago, and they only confirmed that Jacob is not Billy Dee Williams. They have made inferences that Jacob is someone we have already been introduced to.

Yep Thats definately Richard Alpert with long hair, its the first thing i said when i saw the HD caps on DarkUFo.

the sub picture is from a flashback, so it has probably been destroyed.

"Namaste" is Hindi for "Hello" and "goodbye" (like "aloha"). The DHARMA is a Sanskrit/Hindi word, as well. These tie in nicely with the Hindu/Buddhist themes permeating the DHARMA projects/Other community. Sometimes a word is just a word . . . even on *Lost*.

cant remember which podcast but they have said quite a few times in certain podcasts jacob is not someone weve seen before.

And if i remember correctly one of the times they said its someone weve not seen it when someone asked was christian shepard jacob

I noticed a couple of things after spending way too much time looking at the hi-res images on DarkUFO. First, in the shot with the sub, you can see DHARMA vans in the trees, so that's definitely a flashback. Second, that's definitely Ben in the gasmask. Look very closely at those eyes...they're unmistakeable.

and i dont remember them saying jacob is someone weve been introduced to can you point me to a site or something where they have said this TabulaRasa

Am I the only one getting a "treehouse" feel from that 8th image? While watching the preview after last night's episode, I got the impression that the camera swung up toward the sky and zoomed in on that building, like it was up off the ground.

Or, I might be getting the wrong impression from the trees in the foreground. Either one.

Loved the episode, by the way! Will Sawyer drop the pseudonym and return to "James Ford" now that his nemisis is dead? Also, one "May death" down, four to go!

Man, where was everyone when Richard as Jacob was brought up yesterday on this site?

Jacob is Linderman, he is in the 3rd picture

Why doesn't someone prove they (D/C) said we have not seen Jacob yet. From anything I have heard or read they just avoided answering the question.

Maybe Jacob is Dr. Marvin Candle-we haven't actually seen him-just on orientation films?

The podcast question was: "Will Jacob be revealed like the Cobra was revealed? Is it someone we've been seeing all along?"
Then D&C did their usual dance of stupidity, the "let's joke our way out of this question" and said that Billy Dee Williams is not Jacob.
That's it.
So it could be someone we've seen on the island. That would make it a game changer.
Try this scenario: Christian Shepard is an original DHARMA member. He and his wife give birth to a "special" baby. The baby grows up to about age 5, somehow makes a "list" and then the parents and the baby escape during the "purge". They assume a different identity and the boy grows up to become: Jack.
That's my theory. And I'm sticking with it...for now..

Like I said, there are inferences that he is someone we know, it is not something they have said directly. Take the evidence from Expose. "Cobra," played by Billy Dee Williams, turns out to be someone that was a prominant character on that ficticious TV series.

I relistened to that Podcast, and they only confirm that Jacob is not Billy Dee Williams. (Spoilerfix has that info wrong on their General Spoilers section)

El Prez, I apologize for posting the same information. I was listening to the podcast (I am doing a server upgrade right now, so it was not interfering with work, gosh get off my back!)

I should have previewed the post before submitting. Nice theory, I am still going for Locke as Jacob. The two camps of others are trying to determine what kind of Jacob he will be.

Just goes to show you can find an anagram in almost any situation and make a story out of it. Something to keep in mind when hypothesizing.

While Namaste may mean "We are here" in Greek, and also be an anagram for ME SATAN, I believe they are reffering to the Hindi phrase which translates to "I bow to your divine spirit". It is a fairly common closure to a conversation or greeting, similar to "Aloha" in Hawaii.

To me it seemed more like, Locke's father was kidnapped (Car was run off the road, then he was injected while someone was smiling at him) and brought to the island, but the scene before him (waking up to Locke) was so surreal, the only possible solution to him was that he was in hell being punished for his sins. I didn't feel like the producers and the writers were hinting that he was right, only that he personally believed it to be true.

am not taking it from spoiler fix but am sure ive read or heard them say jacob is someone weve not seen before. But could be mistaken i guess

i agree that the face behind the gas mask is Juliet.........

if am mistaken i really hope jacob is not richard as that would be a really big let down for me. Am still saying ben is jacob

What meant by post above is when ben or hendry was first introduced and jacob was mentioned the moment ben/henry was introduced i thought he was going to be Jacob.

so if am mistakening that read or heards D/C says Jacob is someone we havent seen before am sticking to my origional thought.

thatd be kinda cool if locke turned out to be jacob as ben is saying he is special as has knowledge of the island etc but doesnt no how to control it which would half explain how he could be jacob.

The Wizard of Oz reference still suggests a phony. A deception of some great power that does not really exist but is used by someone to keep order or inspire fear in "others"(no pun intended). Being there is a picture of a really rustic looking doll perhaps the toy belonged to young Ben Linus and he imagined it to be real and later used this childhood idea as a fake leader for the others. It is possible that none of them have seen Jacob but the reverence/fear they feel at the mention of his name comes from made up stories and tricks that make him seem real. This con would be arranged by Ben. Thus he is the "Man Behind the Curtain" someone not really that special but who has risen to the top by manipulative trickery.

What about Jack's comments last night to Juliette...

in reference to telling Kate something.

What was THAT all about?

I'll acknowledge your theory of Locke as Jacob. Regardless of who it is, he better be one hell of an actor to have someone as good as Michael Emerson be "afraid" of him..:)
It's just that the season finale being a Jack centric episode leads me down that path of his "true calling".

Someone asked who the creepy shiny woman was--if it is Michael Emerson's wife, then on the show she is Ben's mother. Ghost? Probably.

I also agree that Jack is Jacob. Remember "Stranger in a Strange Land?" That whole schpiel about him being a leader, but isolated? "He walks among us but he is not one of us?"

'Jacob' is the Island, and Locke is his 'chosen one'.

I do NOT think Jacob is Albert... Cuse said that it was no one or nothing that we had seen.

Yeah I don't think they're in hell, though I do think that Cooper believed he was in hell. If what Naomi said was true, than everyone else in the world must believe the people of flight 815 is dead, so for Cooper to see people who were on that flight... well, what would you think? Not to mention, why would someone be parachuting into Hell with a Satellite phone? Or DHARMA Helicopter supply drops? Maybe he's in hell now after what Sawyer did to him... should be.

On the Jacob note, I've also heard that we have NOT seen Jacob before... it's on SpoilerFix.com under the General Spoilers(4/23):

"...offers us a summary of the spoilers Cuse and Lindelof revealed in the latest podcast: The mystery of the wire, including where it goes to and what it does will be answered this season. Ben wasn't conceived in a test tube. Don't believe Ben when he says he was born on the island. Ben wasn't the father of Savinne's child. For the (insert insanely large number here) time, Christian Shepherd is DEAD! We have not seen Jacob in a previous episode and won't until he is revealed."

So if it's from a Podcast, it's probably a solid statement. Though they have been known to lie!

I don't think Jack is Jacob, or Locke. But here's what I want to know... is Locke more powerful than Jacob? Does Jacob possibly even consider Locke to be more powerful than him? By the way the others were looking at him last night, he seems like he could start a following of his own.

SpoilerFix has it wrong (For all of the good work they do, sometimes the get bad info). Just listen to the 4/20 podcast and make your own determination.

It is after the preview of DOC. I believe the question they are answering was asked by someone in Croatia.

That wasn't the REAL Cooper, it was a manifestation of him ( think of the clues, Ben told locke not to get too close to him, then warned locke again, then locke get bitten? bitten!?! why? Cooper didnt seem like himself, he was spitting out answers to every question without even hesitating about it. The Others didn't care if Locke killed Cooper because they knew ((or at least Ben knew)) that it wasnt the real Cooper.) Locke manifested Cooper, Jack manifested his father, Eko his brother, Hurley brought Dave.

Locke is going to find out what he needs from Ben, then depart on his greater mission with the island in his corner.

Also, did anyone notice how Sawyer killed Cooper? Think back to Return of the Jedi… The way Princess Leia killed Jabba the Hutt? With the chain around his neck? Its screaming starwars.

Last night after the episode, i put the dvr on slow playback and saw the "NAMASTE" word. Well i did a WIKI search and it means "I bow to you" the only weird connection i can make of this is when you go to www.thehansofoundation.org at the end of the letter that guy signed the same way! Any ideas? and if you click on humanity and the end of the 3rd paragraph, there is a secret message..... talks about a Virus.

http://www.yogajournal.com/newtoyoga/822_1.cfm

Good thinking Sophia (I'm Greek myself but didn't pick that up).

It is a Hindu spiritual greeting meaning the spirit(god/goddess) in me acknowledges the spirit(god/goddess) in you.

Nothing to do with Satan or saying hello, even though the gesture can be used as a greeting.

It's obvious.

Jack is Jacob.

How do you kill a manifestation? Or more specifically, someone else's manifestation? If it was Locke's manifestation(meaning he conjured Cooper), then how did Cooper know that Flight 815 crashed with no survivors? Last night's statement by Cooper validated Naomi's point of the downed plane.
I think it's all there in front of us. Ben's trying to say that Locke "brought" Cooper here, which is true in the sense of the emotional baggage that's holding Locke up. Bringing him "physically here" doesn't apply.
Spoilerfix is a great site but when someone paraphrases a podcast, they hardly ever get it right.
And I swear D&C chuckle and act like little school kids during those damn things, providing double hints and bullshit.
For example, Carlton says: Christian Shepard is dead! and then you could hear Damon in the background saying: well dead in the sense of no longer breathing or some nonsense...Those 2 are misleading geniuses.
I love their work but pinning them down to an answer is pointless. Cryptic dingdongs....

"Shepherd wasn't even on Jacob's List" - Tom.... i think that means Jack is not Jacob...Thank God. So it's NOT obvious.

that Dharma logo in the last pic...isnt that the same one that was on the tail of the shark?

"then how did Cooper know that Flight 815 crashed with no survivors?" - - good point prezzy, but why do u assume that the "manifestation" version of Cooper wouldn't know that? Ben probably knows that too. If its a manifestation and the island is responsible for it, then there shouldnt be a limit on what the manifestation does or does not know.. U at least have to say theres a chance.

Jimyy- That was a statement from Danny Pickett to some other underling. Is it possible that Danny couldn't put two and two together?
And what exactly is the "list"? The lists we've seen so far are just about who to abduct.
If I was making a list to a party I was throwing, I wouldn't put my own name on the list.
So now the question is: what's the list?

Yeah I see what you folks mean with the Podcast. Hmmm, well I still don't think it's Jack or Locke. I'll just go out on a limb and say it's not one of the 815 folks.

Jim- I thought of that after I posted it. It's possible the "Island" heard Naomi say the plane was found with no survivors, thereby throwing that statement into the Cooper manifestation. Or Ben could have implanted that information as well, seeing as he knew the plane was found...
This damn show is confounding. And I love every minute of it!

Prezzy, cmon, Tell me u dont believe Jack is Jacob? if u do believe that, then at least tell me u hope its not true? God that would be awful... In either case, u still can't rule out the manifestation theory.

see there u go! i like how ur thinking now. And i agree i LOVE this show. My other friend (who watches but isnt a real follower) is demanding answers. I'm telling him that the best part about this show is it makes ur brain ache with thought. sadly it only has another season or so... Best...Show....Ever... and....All hail John "I just saved us all" Locke.

A plane hitting the ocean would not stay intact would it? It's like hitting concrete at those speeds. In the real world a mid air crash into water would leave barely anything recognizable. The story sounds very made up to me.

It's obvious.

jimyy is an idiot.

Damon and Carlton have publicly stated that Jacob is someone who we have never seen yet, so it cant be Alpert.

You have an official transcript of that of course.

With all the talk of manifestations and the lack of knowledge about them then how can anyone be ruled out? There could be different degrees of manifestations that allows either the person that thought of it to be the only one to see it or allows everyone. If Jacob manifested himself then it could still be someone we've "seen."

That's a fantastic observation!
So many star wars references, I love it.

at the end of the brig i heard something too, i wasnt sure what it was but i did hear something.

The pic at the top of the page is NOT Jacob,
It's Steve Nash

Did anyone else notice that the Black Rock looked different or creepier than when we saw it last time? In the screens shots it looks to me like it surrounded by black smoke.

the gas mask looks a little like juliet. Could this be from when she cuffed herself to kate?

lol, the dude in the pic with dr Candle looks like Linderman from Heroes ^^

I tried to work out some anagrams for Naomi Dorrit and this is the only one I got that made any sense;
Monitor Raid
Perhaps there is more than one mole!

First off, definitely Steve Nash in the first pic! (JUST KIDDING! Good one, Supa.)

Seriously, though, it is CLEARLY Malcolm McDowell in the picture with Candle. Not joking this time. What this means, as to a possible Heroes connection, I don't know. Though D &/or C did have a meeting at some point with the writers of Heroes.

Whatever the case, it's CLEARLY Malcolm McDowell, can anyone seriously disagree?

Maybe the Jack we see now isn't the Jack we know.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Richard Alpert (played by Nestor Carbonell) is named after a contemporary spiritual leader Dr. Richard Alpert, whose guru (Neem Karoli Baba) renamed him Ram Dass, which translates to "Servant of God."

What does this mean: the mysterious Jacob is taking on a very God-like persona, and with Nestor Carbonell's Richard Alpert character beginning to try to influence people (like Locke) somewhat behind the scenes, could he be acting as a servant of Jacob... or a "Servant of God" as his name implies???

Do to Nestor Carbonell being a fairly big-name actor, at least by TV standards (he's been in a lot of TV shows and some movies), I had been convinced that he must be Jacob (a major character), or else how could they have gotten him on the show. But now I believe he is acting on behalf of Jacob... who will be a character we have yet to see appear on lost. (Damon and Carlton have never actually said that Jacob has never appeared on Lost, at least to my knowledge, but that doesn't mean it still can't be true.)

A stab in the dark... I am simply, totally convinced that Malcolm McDowell is in the background behind Marvin Candle in that still frame. If he is Jacob, the fact that Nestor Carbonell is appearing as a servant would be understandable, sense he would be appearing as a servant to an even bigger-name actor, such as Malcolm McDowell.

A jump of the shark... the first name of Linderman on Heroes (played by Malcolm McDowell) has never been revealed... a cross-network tie-in??? Almost definitely not... but it sure makes you wonder...

In no way do i think the producers were hinting at hell. I just think cooper really believed he was in hell as well... as for the plane being found it is def a cover up, and wow..what is going on with JAck & JUliet???
Juliet: We should tell her
Jack: No!, not yet...

Whaaaaat are you kidding me?? whats going ?/ what are they planning???

RICHARD IS jacob...

i dunno why, but i want it to be Jack or Richard. In regards to Should we tell them? could they be referring to the communications off the island being down ever since the sky turned purple ? (think back to Bens surgery)

Hey DesmondRules, I totally agreed, when I first saw the picture last night I immediatley saw Linderman. Linderman's curator also showed up in Sawyer's prison flashback. Check out my blog for a few other items that have appeared... http://1miletogo.wordpress.com/heroeslost-connection/

Also, Jacob has healing power, Linderman has healing power... I'm sure there are many references that I have missed...

What information do you guys think Jack has that he can't reveal yet???

POSSIBILITY: the weird structure in the preview is where Ben Linus grew up on the island. There is a ghostly, motherly figure... there is a picture of a crudely constructed doll (no Tickle-Me Elmo on an island in the middle of the South Pacific), and immediately after the doll, a still of Ben Linus looking downwards with a soft look on his face, perhaps reminiscing to himself about the doll.

Ben stated that he lived his whole life on the island, which would include his younger years. This episode could explain part of the mystery of Ben's life, prior to what we know of him now.

The confounder, though, is what part Richard Alpert plays in his past, since he appears to be in a flashback-like appearance too.

I'll throw a out a semi-lame theory: Richard Alpert is "the man behind the curtain"; Jacob is the persona in front of the curtain, if you will (such as THE GREAT WIZARD OF OZ); and Richard Alpert created the persona of Jacob to strike fear and obedience into the young Ben Linus... though for what reason I have no idea. It would be a wonderful twist... that Ben Linus, the great and masterful manipulator, has lived his entire life in a state of servitude to a lie, having been manipulated himself.

Food for thought.

When I first saw the "doll" I thought of Wilson from Castaway...

Des, I'll agree with your last post about Ben being manipulated. That would be a great twist on his character.
But you are out of your mind if you think that's Linderman! I won't even get into the legal ramifications of cross network hit shows and character copyrights.....It could just as easily be Kenny Rogers in the background! LOL!!

El Prez, don't get my started on how Kenny Rogers ties in to the whole Lost universe! It would blow your mind!

It's all a conspiracy to get a Kenny Roger's Roasters Restaurant on the island!! LOL

After the monotonous predictability of 'The Brig', this looks like a step back in the right direction.

mmmm kenny roger's fries.. mmmmm those arethe best!

Did anyone see the 1998 short lived half season remake of Fantasy Island? I saw a few episodes, and I just remembered the way that they got the information on the visitors to the island from the travel agency. pneumatic tubes... Similar to the Pearl station... I know it is a stretch. But maybe after the fall of fantasy island DHARMA overtook Mr. Roark (malcolm McDowell).

I do find it interesting that in 13 episodes of the new fantasy island that the following Lost characters made appearances... Jin, Bernard, Ms Klugh, Jason, & Eddie...

Ok, this is a real stretch, but both Fantasy Island shows were on ABC...

the dude with the beard behind Dr. Candle also has a fake arm? or is it just me?

The face of the doll looks half light and half dark.
Might fit into the black /white symbolism. Or just the lighting make it look that way.

Hey Nestor Carbonell (Richard Alpert) is my mom's 4th or 5th cousin...that's kind of cool I think

They said Jacob isnt a character we have seen yet, so it isnt Alpert.

First, I think the island is a nexus between heaven (which is an alternate plane of existence) and earth. Second, the fab four (or who I think has the greatest chance of being Jake that we've met) are Jack, Locke, Candle, and now Alpert. I would have included Ben a week ago, but that doesn't seem right. Candle would be my pick, but Richard really made some big strides in "The Brig."

El Prez, my homeboy. Wouldn't Alpert being off the island be an even bigger clue to him being Jacob? Remember Christian got his info from a higher up (Richard's a doctor) and Ben's statement to Juliet regarding Jacob saving Rachel. All clues that Alpert's time off the island may correlate to him being the big dude...

If you read this whole thread you will see no one has provided evidence that this was said by Carlton or Damon. If they really said it you could say that it was said in THIS podcast on This date. But no one has proven they said it because they did not say it.
In the Podcast of April 20th,2007 after being asked about weather we have seen Jacob the conversation goes like this;
C-It would be awesome if Jacob turned out to be Billy D Williams. But it is not true.
D-It would be a shock all right that is for sure.
C- It would be a shock.
End of conversation.
I can only conclude that the idea that we have not seen Jacob yet and that it is a conclusive fact must be that this has become like a Lost urban legend. People start saying it in their posts that it is a fact and then other people say; "I remember reading it some where so it has to be true."
If you can prove it more power to you but I don't think you can prove it.

Could the man standing behind Dr. Candle in the screenshot be Henry Gale

The "ghostly" woman in white from the preview is definitely the woman in the painting holding the hamster from Ben's house. She looks identical and is wearing the same clothes. I'd guess it's Ben's mom.

Hey never posted before, I am really starting to think in the back of my head that Jacob would be Jack's dad...maybe the reason why we are getting a tour de Jack flash back finale...I also heard that the season finale will answer a huge question from season 1... I kinda always wondered why that casket was empty when Jack found the caves...not to mention people are having trouble staying dead on the island!

Someone in the comments at dark's site gave this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR0f9XOHTsU

He said this:
"my Danish is rusty but this is what i get out of it

Jakob!! welcome, i am jergen, Jergen Hanso. follow me....your (trip) was well"

I'm not sure weather this clip is fake or real. Probably fake. Any ideas?

Why does everyone keep theorizing about who Jacob might be when Damon and Carlton have already clearly said that it's someone we haven't seen before?

C'mon guys, we've seen Jack, Locke, Richard, and Jack's dad so how could it possibly be any of those? or anyone else that we've already seen for that matter?

Either a) D & C are lying or b) They are telling the truth that we haven't seen Jacob before. A translation of this statement is that WE HAVEN'T SEEN JACOB BEFORE!!!

Not knocking anyone but seriously sounds like people are making things much more complicated than they need to be...

I feel like people are just baiting us now.

Lostaddict07, Cuselof are not lying because they never said it! Please site the source of your information.

Good work!

Hope richard is jacob ... probably not (the name for a start) but hes a cool guy

obviously you don't pay attention to anything...it has been stated 1000s of times we HAVE NOT seen jacob...

Agreed TabulaRasa. I could say that the moon is made of swiss cheese and post it here repeatedly under ten different names but that does not make it true. But somebody seems very invested in spreading this misimformation!!

Has anyone considered a connection between:
1) The island's mysterious healing powers (Mikhail coming back after seemingly being killed)

2) Pregnant women dying after concieving on the island/having successful pregnancies if the baby was concieved before landing on the island

3) Jack finding a casket in the jungle that once contained his father's body

Nathan's post got me curious as to when Jack's father's story would return, and if it relates at all. Any comments?

I just had a thought. What if Jacob is not the leader of the others like everyone is assuming. I think Jacob is just a "special" person that the others are using to meet their need on the island like a parasite. My theory is Jacob (he is the box) is old and dying and his power is failing which is why Ben got a tumor, he didn't heal faster and pregnant women are dieing. Ben (the "man behind the Curtin") wanted to replace Jacob with Walt, I think Walt was too powerful and couldn't be controlled which is why he agreed to let him go and now Locke is his new choice. Ben said when Locke came to their camp he stared getting better immediately. In order for Locke to take his new place as the new Jacob he had to leave behind all ties to the outside world which meant his dad had to die so Ben brought him to the island like he said.

Jack is Jacob!

Has anyone figured out why Sawyer was walking barefoot? Dead Man Walking . . . but say it isn't so.

Also -- Sawyer cooling his feet in the water? What did that mean? It reminded me of an episode of Gilligan's Island when the castaways are cooling their feet in the lagoon after a tribesman put a voo-doo curse on them.

Does anyone know where the music came from for the preview? I have heard it before but I don't know where from. Any help?

The preview music is from the "Requiem for a Dream" sound track.

It was remixed for the LOTR The two towers also.

I keep seeing, over and over, that Damon or Carlton said we had never seen Jacob before. I challange anyone to provide a link to that statement. You can't, because it doesn't exist. Someone thought they heard it and posted it somewhere (possibly Desmondhume108 from the Fuselage, who posted that in his highlights of the 4/21 podcast, even though it was NOT said in the podcast). Someone (or many someones) read it and believed it without checking it for themselves. They posted it somewhere else. Others saw those posts and believed them... and it snowballed.

In reply to MattB
Again, that erroneous statement. Listen to the podcasts yourself, you just CANNOT go by other people's highlights. People hear what they WANT to hear or expect to hear in the ambiguous comments D&C make and mistakenly believe it really got said. It didn't.

Someone should look closer at the preview for next week at about 15.5sec to 16.5sec there is a frame that looks like smoke with the words;
Roger
Work Man
I wonder their significance?
