ABC has released some promo pictures for the new episode, and in them we see Locke and Ben barricading the house against possible attack. The big question is, who is attacking? My guess would be it's either the Others finally coming to spring Ben, or freighter folk being led on a mission by Lapidus. We also see Hurley and Sawyer sitting down to play a game of Risk, which, interestingly enough, is a game about controlling opposing armies and attempting to take over land. Fitting, isn't it?
As for the dead body that washes up, who could it be? It's probably not Regina, since the chains she wrapped around herself likely caused her to sink like a stone. I'm sure it's someone from the freighter, but that doesn't exactly narrow it down.
Check out the photos and the episode promo below.

It can't be Charlie.....it says Jack is trying to discover the identity of the body.......Jack would recognise Charlie's body.

wat i want to know is if kate is sayin arron is hers then wouldnt they would no she wasnt pregnent on the plane or didnt have a kid before the crash wat could explain this ????

To the whole Kate and Aaron thing, it could be that she adopted him when they get rescued. Jack said in the Eggtown flash forward that 8 people survived the crash. Possibly the story or more accuratly the lie is that Claire survived the crash gave birth then died. Leaving Kate as the surrogate mother of the child. But on to The Shape of Things to Come I think the body washing up on shore is that chick who wrapped herself in chains and jumped into ocean on the freighter.

The body could be Kelvin's. After Desmond (presumably) killed him in that rocky area, his body wasn't seen again. It could have been washed out to sea, and its disappearance is one of the those many issues on the show that have bugged me for a while. If I'm right I'd be intrigued to see where the writers take the plot with it.

lova-
i dont think kate adopted arron though the question does remain..how did kate get custody of arron? perhaps she lied and said he was hers since the marshal, whos dead, is the only one who knows it isnt true. I dont know. but what i do know is that most people on trial for murder, arson, etc, don't typically get the right to adopt.

Also regarding Kates and Aaron. It seemed that kates mother thought Aaron was her biological grandson. She wouldn't have been so adamant or insistent on seeing Aaron if she knew that Aaron wasn't actually kates kid.

I don't care much about the Aaron and Kate situation. However, I've been thinking very hard about whos body is in the coffin. I can't help but to think it's Hurley. The first episode was about his downfall since he got off the island, and it was quite apparent that Jack and Kate were seriously disturbed in the season 3 finale. Not only was Jack depressed, taking painkillers, and attempting suicide, but he seemed to carry a sense of guilt about whoever was dead. Any thoughts?
Posted By Steve | March 31, 2008 6:09 PM
Have you noticed how Hurley is seen in the pictures carrying Aaron? It may be for some futile reason such as helping Claire out. I believe Aaron may get rescued together with Hurley by accident i.e. in an unplanned way. For example Claire gets delayed and misses the helicopter.

Just because Regina had chains around her, don't assume that means it can't be her body that washes ashore (and Jack trys to ID)
Yeah, she had chains on so she would sink. But consider:
(while I also debate the theory - I love being my own devil's advocate!)
1.) They did hire a semi-named actress, Zoe Bell, to play the part. Seems like a waste to not give her more screen time.
Yeah, but they brought in Fisher Stevens and he didn't get much screen time and he is a bigger name than Bell. So the B-list (generous?) doesn't denote much. ALSO: Bell's big claim to fame is that she is a stuntwoman - so a logical pick for the jumping-overboard scene.
2.) If it is Regina that washes up, we the audience will be wondering "What about the chains?"
The island does mysterious things.

It can't be Hurley in the coffin.
It would make no since anyway that Kate wouldn't want to go to the funeral because she and Hurley are tight. But yes, there is still time between "now" and the time they get off the island so I suppose something could happen between Hurley and Kate, and make them enemies. Anything is possible. However:
When Jack goes to the funeral home it is empty, aside from the deceased and the funeral director, of course. Jack didn't miss the funeral - the director told him that no one showed up. Well, the Oceanic 6 are a pretty famous bunch, "reality stars" if you will since their return to civilization. If one of them died there would be a swarm of people there - media and strangers/onlookers if nothing else. So regardless of whether Kate goes or not, if any one of the remaining Oceanic 6 dies while they are still on the radar and within their 15 minutes (of fame) people will attend. So that rules out Hurley.
Here is my theory:
When we saw the funeral parlor we were provided with a sense of place to direct us to a number of scenarios. The funeral home is in either:
a.) A black neighborhood.
b.) A poor neighborhood.
c.) A city.
d.) A combination of or all of the above.
I'm going with d.)...
The funeral home is in the poor, black inner-city. Because this is where they sent their John Doe, aka Kevin Johnson, aka Michael Dawson, when he died. It just makes sense.
A John Doe has no means, no verifiable insurance or other way to pay for funeral costs, so his funeral would be more like a "disposal" by the authorities. Of course they would go low-budget. And of course they would call a black funeral home because their John Doe was black. That part is elementary.
Jack is more forgiving. He trys to see the good in people. So he would forgive Michael before Kate would. Although in my opinion I don't think Jack forgave Michael at all, I just think he went to the funeral because he was curious, the way people are when someone they know dies. If you where in an event like Lost and one of the folks who experienced it too was walking around town like you and then died...you would be curious, too.
So I say it's Michael in the coffin!!
A second possibility could be Locke. Regardless, it's not one of the Oceanic 6.

Has everybody forgot the real reason why jack was on the plane!!
It could be his fathers funeral and/or the body on the beach could be his father!

Hey, Completely random to all topics being presented but I just want to see what other people think about this one!
I have a feeling, along with everyone who watches Lost I wager, that Annie has something MAJOR to do with the story.
What if...wait for it.... Annie left the Island and returned to the US (I guess that is where she is from orginally due to her accent- sorry Canadians, I realise it could be there too!). What if she lived in California. What if she had problems, due to leaving the island, and had to go to meetings to sort them out. What if she met a man called John Locke at these meetings? What if she called herself Helen!
Perhaps Helen and Annie are one of the same?! It could explains Ben's hatred for Locke- ok I know he doesnt want Locke to be the leader for the others and I know he is jealous of the relationship that Locke and the Island share, but perhaps there is something more behind Ben's dislike of Locke?
Just an idea! tear it to pieces if you will! I have been reading the tailsection for years and have never contributed any ideas before but I am curious to see what you guys think of the POSSIBLITY of the above.
Cheers,
Dan

When the captain is beating those guys up, he tells the crew, "Remember what happened to the last two who tried to escape?" He was referring to Fisher Steven's character AND the guy Jack finds IMO.

There's no doubt in my mind that it is Kevin Johnson (Michael) in the coffin. That's why Kate didn't care when Jack showed the obituary in the paper. Kate must still believe that Michael is a traitor.
Posted By michelleology | April 1, 2008 11:17 AM
Ben and Locke look like their in the middle of an 80's "Fixin'-Stuff-Up" montage.
Posted By Oogabooga | April 1, 2008 1:38 PM
michelleology - Exactly!! And I have onbe more...
About Kate and Aaron:
Ed O'Connonr @ 4:13pm you're right: someone on trial for murder would not be able to adopt a kid. And the whole "but it was her mother's dying wish" stance wouldn't mean squat to the court.
I also agree that Kate is telling the world that Aaron is her birth child. But from there my opinion differs a little bit. Folks besides the marshal would have known if Kate had a kid when she boarded the plane. When he caught her I'm sure he called the office, said "Hey I got her! Also so they could get his hotel and flight, have officers and a cell ready when they land...stuff like that. The flight manifest would also depict this. Just stuff like that - you know what I mean?
So how long does the rest of the world think the Oceanic 6 were gone for Kate to pass it off that she had the kid on the island?
Kate could have said she was 3 months pregnant when the marshal caught her (she wouldn't be showing then, right?). Aaron is around 2-3months old when he gets "rescued" or leaves the island. So that comes to about 8-9 months total if my math is right, no? But for the Oceanic 6 won't it really be like 4 months to them?
Hmmm....
[Still open for discussion]

The Person Washed Ashore must be the woman who jumped off the freighter with the chains n such, it would make sense. anyone else think so?
Posted By Bromage | April 1, 2008 6:13 PM
IT CANT BE MICHAEL IN THE COFFIN - REMEMBER TOM "MR FRIENDLY" SAID IN EP8 THAT THE ISLAND WOULDNT LET MICHAEL DIE NO MATTER WHAT HE TRIED- and if it were mikhails body that washed ashore then it would be obvious to jack/kate that it was mikhail because of either the patch on his eye or the one eye sealed close and one not. maybe the attack on lockes camp is dharma remainers still living on the island how do we know that ben actually killed ALL dharma members because charlotte seemed to recognize the dharma logo on the dead polar bear in episode 2 i think so she might be one of them that happened to leave the island in the past thats why she knows it still exist when she see's the bear. great theory that its jacks dad thats washed ashore but he might be able to recognize his own dad maybe not but its likely that he would, my opinion is that the body washed ashore is a completely new character that we will eventually know where they came from like dr marvin candle dharma guy.

"IT CAN'T BE MICHAEL IN THE COFFIN - REMEMBER TOM "MR FRIENDLY" SAID...WOULDN'T LET MICHAEL DIE"
I think his point was that the island won't let people die until the island wants it to happen, but that could be a total lie & michael's inability to die may have something to do with manipulation of events supernaturally or with time travel via Ben & associates! any thoughts?
I am really starting to believe it's michael in the coffin
no idea of who's washed ashore
Posted By Jacqui | April 2, 2008 6:32 AM
it Can be michael. because of the time shift between the freighter and the island, michael might have completed the task's neccessary for the island to let him die, and he has already been killed for it. if not then it could be either of the two others that were in the looking glass station, it could be dave,(remember), and it could, heaven forbid, be desmond.(he DID just talk to penny, and redemption usually leads to death, deception gets you off the island) and it all really depends on the condition of the body on whether or not jack would be able to recognize who it is, even if it is someone he knows.

Hey People,
I remember reading on Lostpedia that the clipping mentions the name (or alias) of the person in the coffin. I don't want to put up any spoilers here, but if you look up the info on the newspaper clipping you can find the name there...The person they mentioned also has a myspace page which deals with conspiracy theory as well as the locating of downed flight 815.
Always happy to come here and read theories and stuff, so thanks to everyone for sharing their theories here.
See you in another life brother!

Craig,
Interesting comment about Charlotte being a former island person. Why would she be so interested in a Dharma logo? Either she was part of Widmore's team for quite some time prior to the others joining or she was a former island member. What if Charlotte is Annie?

Weird...now it's back....For a short while you tube said "we're sorry, no longer available"...anyways.....can't wait to find out how the O6 gets made up of people from different factions right now

Isnt Jack Aron's uncle?, i thought in season 1, jacks father turns up in the hospital and claire finds out hes her dad so that makes claire and jack brother and sister. as for you was in the coffin, i think it could be locke, im not sure why but he doesnt have any family or anything who would turn up.
Posted By Joanne | April 5, 2008 1:46 PM
I think it was the girl that jumped. The chains + magnetism on the island = her floating back to the island?!
Posted By lo key | April 6, 2008 4:37 PM
It is Ben in the coffin.Somehow,he helps to get them off the island so Jack feels he owes him in a way...even though Ben would never take the 6 back to the island or help the others off.Something happens to bond them eventually(Maybe Ben saves the island&therefore, the rest of the survivors)so when Jack sees the article,he recognizes Ben&realizes his last chance to get back to the island just died with Ben.

i think the body is obviously regina cuz she jumped off the boar

walt's in the coffin.
walt will come to be known to be the true mayor of crazy town; currently known as new otherton.
kate doesnt want to go because she wouldnt want to go anywhere near walt who was supposed to have died in the crash. which is also why walt's grandmother can't go, because she's not supposed to have had him living with her.

KATE CAN NOT SAY THAT ARRON IS HERS BECAUSE THEN THEY( THE POLICE OR GOVERMENT) WOULD NO THAT KATE WASNT PREGNENT B4 THE CRASH ..
ALSO
WHEN MICHEAL WENT TO HIS MUMS HOUSE SHE SED SOMETHING LIKE U HAD BEEN GONE FOR TWO MONTHS AND CANT CALL THEM BY THEIR REAL NAMES .. IF MICHEAL HAD BEEN GONE FOR 2 MONTHS THEN HOW LONG HAVE THEY REALLY BEEN ON THE ISLAND ?????
