ABC said that as of now, it is sticking with its plan to air the eight episodes it has of Lost -- this coming on the day that Fox announced that it will bench its own serialized midseason thriller, 24.Personally, I would love to get my hands on whatever the creative minds on Lost would be willing to show me.
But a friend brought up a really good point: the last 3 or so episodes won't have any creative input from Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. Obviously, they wrote the scripts, but their involvement in the show goes far beyond just writing. Carlton and Damon have final say on how the show is shaped in the editing room, sculpting the mix of the soundtrack and putting that final spit polish on the show.
What will happen, with Carlton and Damon opting to not to cross the picket lines, is that some studio executives will come in and have the final say.
Do you want to see any episodes of Lost that Carlton and Damon don't have control over?
Comments
I heard that the 8 episodes were already completed and in the can... filmed, edited and everything. and that they had 2 uncompleted scripts. That's just what I remember reading in an interview.

I believe they're shooting 7 or 8 right now, which means that they've probably locked the first 2 episodes. And to be honest, I don't think they've even locked those, as shows don't generally make Air versions until they have an air date.

We'll just have to wait and see. I'm sure it will all get resolved in the nex couple of days and everything will be back to normal. Fingers crossed.

I would really like to agree with you, but I honestly don't see it coming to a conclusion any time soon.
The WGA wanted more money for DVDs and compensation for their material being shown on the internet. The day before the deadline, the WGA agreed to rescind their point about more money for the DVDs, which the studios said was the main sticking point. The studios then promptly said "No, that isn't enough" and both sides walked away.
They haven't even scheduled talks since that last meeting. I'm afraid that this might last into the next year.

What? I don't understand the comment about the three episodes... Which three are you referring to 6, 7, and 8 or 14, 15, and 16?
Even so, how is that possible, that doesn't make any sense. No one is working on any episodes right now, so why would Carlton and Damon not have a say? PLEASE CLARIFY.

The were either filming or had just finished filming the seventh episode when the strike began. So only the eighth episode won't have imput from Damon and Carlton. Just one episode, not three.

Ok, here is how TV production works:
Carlton and Damon write episode 401.
Episode 401 goes into production.
The editor puts together their cut of 401.
The director then cuts down the editor's cut to what they want it to be.
The producers (Damon and Carlton, amongst other producers) then give notes on the director's cut and turn it over to the studio/network.
The studio/network then gives their notes and the show is locked, meaning no other changes can be made to the picture.
401 is then sent to the audio department, who create the soundtrack.
It is then turned over to mixers and a producer oversees the mixing of the soundtrack.
Then there is a playback where Carlton and Damon give their notes on how the mix turned out.
The sound is then composited to the final coloring on the show and viola, it's ready for air.
This process, after production completes shooting, takes about 4 weeks.
If they were shooting 406 when the strike broke, that means that they wouldn't be able to give notes on cuts, on the sound mix or on the final polish.
It may not seem like much, but the feel of the show comes from the editor. Carlton and Damon keep the tone of the show the same through overseeing the show itself.
If they aren't there for that, someone else has to do it, meaning an executive that doesn't necessarily see the show the way Carlton and Damon do.
Which means those three episodes of Lost (6, 7, and 8) could be tonally different from the rest. I'm not saying that will necessarily be the case, but it definitely is cause for concern.
I hope that helped.

autochthonous,
But they weren't shooting 4.06 when the strike broke. They were shooting 4.07, weren't they?

"Do you want to see any episodes of Lost that Carlton and Damon don't have control over?"
NO WAY. NEVER.
I prefer to wait another year, and have a full 24ep season, than just 8 episodes.
That will kill any kind of climax.

Bonsai-
To be honest, I'm just guessing as to which episode they were shooting. An educated guess, but a guess nonetheless. I know when they started shooting at the end of the summer and being that they have 8 day shoots, just worked a rough time line of where they are at.
It should be 6 or 7.
My example of the show flow above used 401 just as an example.

autochthonous,
Oh, in that case, I can tell you they were definitely shooting episode 4.07. I read spoilerslost.blogspot.com, and there's been pictures posted from the filming. Searching back through there, it looks like the seventh episode was set to film from 10/27 - 11/09. So, if the strike doesn't break before the episodes begin to air - which is still several months away - then 4.08, 4.07, & perhaps 4.06 will be lacking the complete Darlton-touch.

Bonsai-
Good catch. I don't keep up on the spoiler site as much as I should; I prefer not to be spoiled. As for the schedule, keeping up with my own show is complicated enough, so I just deal in "fuzzies" when it comes to other production schedules.
And you're right, 6, 7, and 8 will be Darlton-less.
I hope this thing ends soon.
