In honor of Lost composer earning his well-deserved first Oscar for Up, we decided to look at the music on Lost and find the 15 best musical moments.
From good vibrations in the Looking Glass to a Sousa march for a fish biscuit to Petula Clark and Mama Cass, we pick the best use of songs on the show.
Does the news that Nestor Carbonell has joined the cast of CBS’s Cane mean we will be seeing less Richard Alpert in season four of Lost? A lot of fans are concerned that is exactly was Carbonell’s new job means, but in reality that is probably not the case.
Lost has had many guest stars since it began that were floating full time gigs elsewhere. Julie Bowen is a prime example. One thing that has yet to be determined is even when it will be appropriate to see Alpert again.
The last time we saw him, Ben was ordering Alpert to continue on to ‘the temple.’ It seems to me that ‘the temple’ is probably going to be this seasons version of a hatch. Mark this down as pure speculation, but I don’t think that we are going to see ‘the temple’ until later into the fourth season. There had to be a very important reason behind the Other’s exodus to the mysterious ruins (?) and even though Lost is in answer mode, I wouldn’t expect the big important reveals to come early on.
Even if it were the case, there is no reason why Carbonell could not fit some Lost filming in at will. With the new approach to Lost’s production, they could conceivably have all of Alpert’s scenes planned out ahead and film them in one chunk.
Until we hear other-wise, keep your concern meters on low when it comes to Alpert pulling a Houdini from Lost’s mysteries.
I love Macs. I’m writing this on a Mac. When I was first watching some of the bonus features of Season 1, I noticed in one of the Making Of featurettes that JJ Abrams
was writing the script on a Mac. I was watching it on my Mac at the
time, and I was thinking, “Damn! That’s cool.” It gave me a bit of a
connection to the show. When Season 2 came out on DVD, the bonus about
the making of Fire + Water had the creative staff at meetings with
their trusty Mac laptops.
Now, Macs also have a different role. Larry Fong, a cinematographer
for some of ‘Lost’ uses his Mac to speed up the editing process.
According to the article, he’d take some stills from filming, and as
the footage was shipped to California, he’d already have edited his
stills and emailed them to the post-production team before the footage
arrived. They’d know just what to make it look like, and get straight
to work. It’s pretty interesting to me that the editing team will already know what they are doing to the footage, before it even gets onto a plane. As cool as what is going on in the show is, I can’t help loving the behind-the-scenes aspects of Lost.
And, of course, we can’t forget that even DHARMA trusts Apple with the safety of the world, seeing as the Swan computer is an Apple II Plus.

It seems like ‘Lost’ has become the cause of an actual plot twist over
television station airings in the UK. Sky and Virgin Media both
operate in the UK, offering a satellite and cable (respectively)
television service. Sky has the rights to broadcast shows such as
‘Lost’ and ‘24′ over in the UK, but also offer their channels to
Virgin Media to put over the cable as well. In the recent dispute, Sky
has removed their channels from Virgin Media cable, jeopardizing about
3.5 million people from being able to watch our beloved ‘Lost’.
But hope is at hand! Virgin has brokered a deal with ABC to air ‘Lost’
on Virgin’s Video-on-Demand service. All three seasons! This doesn’t
bode well for negotiations, which apparently have broken down
resulting in Sky pulling their channels (besides sport and movie
packages) from Virgin. Virgin pays 17 times as much to put their
channels over satellite than Sky does according to the new proposal.
If Virgin can get deals like that for other shows too, then why would
it need Sky?
No matter who is right in this dispute (seems like Virgin to me, but
whatever), at least ‘Lost’ is secured to all the viewers who want to
watch it. Virgin has lost for now and may lose most of the most
popular US shows that they air, and their first priority is to get
‘Lost’ onto televisions. It gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling.
