E! Online reports that Dominic Monaghan’s return to Lost - something that’s all but announced - will amount to three episodes in the upcoming final season. How Charlie will figure is not known, though, whether he’s alive or just a hallucination.
If you’ve seen the first installment of Mysteries of the Universe: The Dharma Initiative - Lost’s online series dedicated to the initiative - over the weekend, then you can watch out for the other four parts. ABC has announced that installments two to five will hit the web on August 4, September 8, October 15 and November 16.
The New York Times has an interesting article about how the Lost crew prepared for their Comic-Con panel over the weekend. For their final panel, it’s a lot of preparation: twelve people, four months, and a pretty big budget. $25,000 went to song rights, props, and bringing the actors to the panel alone.
While Cuse and Lindelof said Elizabeth Mitchell was returning, Josh Holloway may have let something slip during the press interviews afterward. In describing what Sawyer will be like in the final season, Holloway indicated that his character will revert to his bitter, non-heroic life after the death of Juliet. So in whatever capacity Mitchell returns, it won’t be next to Sawyer.
“Now that he’s lost Juliet, I think the leader/hero thing is gone,” Holloway said. He added that Sawyer is “heart-broken, he’s back to [thinking] the world sucks.”

As expected, Damon and Carlton didn’t exactly reveal a whole lot about the final season during today’s Comic-Con panel. But there were some juicy moments.
-They’ve already written the final scene, but it’s under lock and key
-Elizabeth Mitchell WILL be back next season
-They hinted that the bomb most likely worked, and that the final season will be very similar to the first season
-Josh Holloway, Jorge Garcia, Michael Emerson and Nest Caronell all showed up, as did a special mystery guest…
-DOMINIC MONAGHAN showed up. at the last minute to say hello. Was this just because he’s already there as a new cast member on ABC’s Flash Forward, or because he’ll be returning to the show.
-Lending support to the idea that he is coming back, they showed a retrospective of all the characters who have died on the show. Perhaps it was also a montage of people who will be coming back for the final season.
He’s already confirmed for Flash Forward, but there’s still the question as to whether he’s returning to Lost. Some more speculation, then: EW’s Michael Ausiello said Dominic Monaghan will be appearing on more than one ABC show this season. “I think you mean what shows,” he said. “And you’ll get your answer soon enough.” Fill in more blanks, then?
For the Emmys, the nominees for Outstanding Drama Series select six episodes to submit, and based on those submissions, voters will choose the winners.
TVGuide.com has confirmed the list of six episodes Lost is submitting, and I’m not sure I’m on board.
The episodes are:
La Fleur
The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham
The Variable
Follow the Leader
The Incident (Parts 1 and 2)
The finale was a logical choice because it also scored a Writing nomination, and The Variable was the best episode of the season.
But, to be totally hones,t The Life and Death kind of sucked because it was a series of rather tame vignettes. 316 was far superior, as were great episodes like Because You Left, Jughead, Namaste and Dead is Dead.
Overall, it may be a moot point. The fact that Lost was even able to score a Drama Series nomination for a season where it went unapologetically into sci-fi territory is enough of a shock. The nomination could be its reward, but I still have hope that Michael Emerson’s performance in “Dead is Dead” can win him an Emmy.
Lost is competing against Damages, Dexter, Breaking Bad, Big Love, Mad Men and House. Right now I’d probably put my money on House to get an honorary Emmy as a reward for general excellence.
Michael Emerson snagged an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. And, of course, Lost also took a nomination for Best Drama Series, going up against five cable dramas and House. It was also nominated for Writing for the season finale “The Incident.” In that category, it will compete against four episodes of Mad Men. The show also took nominations for editing and sound mixing.
After all that speculation and almost-confirmations, it really is happening. SpoilerTV reports that Dominic Monaghan has begun shooting Flash Forward, the new ABC series that’s being touted as a successor to Lost.
The series, which is based on Robert J. Sawyer’s novel and revolves around the world dealing with a two-minute blackout and its catastrophic effects, also stars Joseph Fiennes, Jack Davenport, John Cho, and Lost’s Sonya Walger.
After Lost wraps up, that is. The guy otherwise known as Jack Shepherd told Starpulse that he wants to spend more time with his wife Margarita, his 12-year-old daughter Kyle, and his 8-year-old son Byron.
So, when the show wraps up next year, he plans to take six months off, and then return to movies, doing one or two per year. “I don’t want to miss them growing up,” he said. “I don’t want to find myself ten years from now feeling like I was an absentee father because I was so focused on my career.”
