John K.’s Theory: What Happened to Sayid?
Sayid left the pier, wanting no part in Ben and Jack’s plan to go back to the Island. Then 36 hours later, he was being escorted onto Ajira Airways flight 316 by a U.S. federal marshal. What happened in that time is quite a mystery.
The biggest question is whether Ilana is actually a marshal. Given everything we’ve seen, I would tend to believe that she’s not. Ben has proven himself quite resourceful with plenty of friends wherever he goes. There was even a reference to Gabriel and Jeffrey, making at least two unseen and unknown co-conspirators.
In all likelihood, Sayid became involved in even more gunplay with the people trying to kill him, who either work for Widmore or Ben. Then Ilana, an agent of Ben posing as a marshal, arrests him.
It makes sense not only because of what we know about Ben, but because of where th plane is going. Flight 316 was heading to Guam with a stop in Honolulu. Why would a U.S. marshal be taking a prisoner from Los Angeles to Guam or Hawaii?
It’s certainly no coincidence Sayid is on that plane, and the only way for that to happen is for Ilana to be working for Ben. But we’ll see for sure whenever the show gets around to filling in those missing 36 hours.
What do you think? Does Ilana work for Ben? Widmore? The U.S. government? Someone else?

If Sayid is arrested don’t you think he would have gone down with a fight? I can’t see Ilana saying “halt, police!” And Sayid just throwing up his hands in surrender. She would have looked more like Ben did (busted and bruised - at best). So there would have had to be more involved than just Ilana.

Sayid is an assassin, not a common criminal. He doesn’t go around killing innocent people. Last time I checked Sayid is in the country illegally and he is probably being deported to the last country he came from-Australia. Perhaps he would catch a connecting flight from Guam to Australia. A US Marshall doing their job isn’t going to feel the wrath of Sayid.

HMmmm John, how about Ben, who always has a plan, baits Sayid into beating him up as evidenced by Ben’s face & arm sling, and has a convenient federal cop nearby to arrest Sayid, an potential ex-Republican Guard Iraqi Terrorist. His plan also involves transport of Sayid to some designated jail & court via flight 316.
Ben is highly motivated to get the right people, mostly the O6, on flight 316 as evidenced by Ben’s shocking reveal that he hired the lawyer to cause Aaron’s separation from Kate, hence Kate’s volunteering 2b on flight 316.

i thought it was feints within feints, Pundit?
anyway, as convenient as it may be, i don’t think it was sayid that beat up ben. I like the idea of set-up where ben fingered sayid on the assaassinations that ben himself had him do, and he’s being deported to wherever. My first thought was Gitmo, but i remembered it’s in Cuba(right?). But, as this Ilana person very well _not_ be an actual Fed, she could have just given the story and sayid came willingly, believing the jig was up.
