Discussion for Episode 5.5 “This Place is Death” (with Photos)
Discuss tonight’s episode, airing at 9pm on ABC, “This Place is Death.”
Official ABC Description: “Locke takes on the burden to stop the island’s increasingly violent shifts through time. Meanwhile, Ben hits a roadblock in his attempt to reunite the Oceanic 6 and bring them back to the island.”

In the preview for this episode at the end of last weeks episode Ben was telling Sun that Jin was still alive and I was wondering how he might know that. Well some of you might already have read this but in this weeks TV guide they had a section talking to a kid playing a young Ben when he was about 13. It said that he runs into Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and others and actually helps them. So I guess this answers my question because if Ben met Jin when he was a kid then he obviously would know he was still alive. That’s so cool. I Love this Time travel stuff.

Worst Lost episode I have ever seen. Period. Let’s hope after all this garbage exposition the show gets back on track this season.
Anyone else find it coincidence that Desmond is heading to find Mrs. Farraday in LA at the exact same time the 06 is there? Christian Shepherd did say, all of Locke’s friends who left the island must return, wouldn’t that mean Desmond as well?
LMAO of course Desmond walks up as I’m writing this. But I did say this would happen two weeks ago.

Come on….worst? Hello, remember Fire + Water????
Of course, we all knew that Desmond would find Eloise Hawking at the same moment as what is currently being collected of the O6- I mean, that was not a coincidence and I don’t think anyone seriously thought it was! We all knew that would happen. Tonight had several big moments- who is Charlotte’s father? (Widmore? Horace? We saw Horace was dead, but we never saw his wife die in the purge) If Charlotte saw Daniel as a child, how is that possible? And maybe biggest of all, for me, if Charlotte says that the O6 coming back to the island is BAD, and Christian/Richard Alpert both say its GOOD- what is the truth? Because you simply cannot trust Ben; he has his own agenda which I have not yet figured out.

Seriously, if you want the worst episode, check out the one with Bai Ling of Jack getting his tattoo. I would rather get root canal than have to watch that again. Personally, I’m loving this season like a three dollar prostitute, and after so many seasons of aimless wandering, I’m more than happy with exposition since it’s doing exactly what every fan wants: explaining what’s happening!

At least the Bai Ling episode had mystery, intrigue and character development, you know, the things that make a show watchable. Lost has been like a fantastic American fiction novel in the way it explores characters and sets up the story. Last night’s episode was like American comic book filth. A 5th grader could have written it. Follow Jin around for 15 minutes with French people, realllll exciiiiiiting. It isn’t even good action. I hope that this was just a hastily thrown together season, sort of like a term paper done the day before it was due and that they have been spending all their time that they would have spent on this season, to make next season off the chart incredible. Last nights episode was more painful than watching a highlight show of all the clips of Michael yelling WALLLLLLLLTTTTT and half as interesting.

Anyone who thinks that last night’s episode was one of the worst must not watch the show for the sci-fi factor. I wouldn’t consider Lost an ‘American fiction novel’, I think I would consider it an ‘American Science Fiction novel’. It was really exciting to see Jin with the French group - think of all the answers we got out of those 15 minutes - that Danielle wasn’t making up the story of being on a research team that was stranded, that she did indeed reach the island pregnant, that her team encountered the Smoke Monster, came down with some sort of illness that caused them to turn on Danielle, and that she did kill her team out of self defense and not insanity. And that was just the beginning of the episode. I really have no idea how you could consider that ‘painful’ to watch. In fact, I would go so far as to say, if you thought that was painful, you might as well just forget about the rest of the season, and probably the rest of the series.

well…
not the best episode. it was so cheesy, i needed a bottle of wine to wash it down.
it does seem like they’re slapping a lot together to get us where we need to be in the story.
am i the only person in the world who doesn’t know who this Montand fellow is? where did i miss him before?

T.V. shows are made for money. We all knew that after 4 seasons most people (average) would start to lose interest with a show that was giving more questions than answers. But just like any other cult hit it has its fan base and its band wagon people who watch one episode and either get confused or impatient for answers. These are the last two seasons. Just like a book turned into a movie, the true fans will never be satisfied with a mass produced product. First lesson in film school, do you want to make a film for money or pleasure? I think the episode was good but not great. But I think that is what the rest of the show is going to be like for the die hard fans. Nothing is as good as the first time you experience it. Remember how good you thought Matrix was in the beginning until everyone started copying the idea and it became canned.
