A Possible Ms. Hawking Spoiler

Lost Spoilers — February 5, 2009 at 10:15 am by John

So last night I went home and checked out my digital cable to preset my recording for the February 18 episode of Lost, titled “316.” I was pleased to see a description of the episode, but shocked to see that the description also listed guest star Fionnula Flanagan as Ms. Hawking.

Not just that, but the description also gave away her character’s first name, which is almost certainly a pretty big spoiler.

Ms. Hawking’s first name is Eloise. This name almost certainly confirms two theories that I’ve posted about before.

1. Ms. Hawking is Ellie
In “Jughead,” we met Ellie, the Other who Faraday said looked familiar. Since Ellie can obviously be a nickname for Eloise, it seems even more likely that they are actually the same person.

2. Ms. Hawking is Faraday’s Mom
Fans undoubtedly remember that when Faraday was experimenting with time travel, he used a lab rat named Eloise. Either this is a very big coincidence, or Faraday named his rat after his mother.

With this revelation, it’s almost certain that both of these things will be revealed during February 18’s episode. The fact that the episode is called “316″ is also significant as the number appears as an Easter Egg in Ajira Airways websites, particularly when referring to the Bible verse John 3:16 - “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
