I wonder if, given that everyone on the island seems to have jaunted back in time to earlier pre-purge Dharma days, Locke is perhaps his proper time-dilated age as he sits in his coffin. In other words, if (for example) everyone was sent back to the early 80s, Locke may have lived through those 25 years and thus is a quarter century older when he comes to visit Jack in 2008 and dies shortly after.
Going back to the island, then, might mean that they will find the more normal-aged Locke and change whatever events Locke came back to warn them about.
Crap, have I just summarized the plot to season 5?

Yo, I think if you time travel, you may not age, this may explain Alpert and other Others who might be years older than we think, so I think that is why Locke has appeared not to age.
