Sayid’s Childhood
So this is purely speculation but we’re pretty sure that there will be a Sayid centric episode near the beginning of the season. All we know for sure is that a casting call went out for three actors fluent in Arabic. One is to be an older man and the other two are supposed to be his sons ages 12 and 8. What we assume is that a childhood story of Sayid’s will be told. I hope they go a different route than Mr. Eko’s first flashback, when he sacrificed himself and turned into a warlord to protect his little brother. It would be very easy for the writers to copy the idea make the death of a younger sibling what ultimately turn Sayid into a killer.
I’m holding out for something epic. If the speculation is correct - I’m expecting lots and lots of Daddy Issues. Almost every character on Lost has some serious Daddy Issues and I expect Sayid will be no different.

I don’t think a casting call is a spoiler. All that stuff about Sayid’s family is total speculation. This could have absolutely nothing to do with a Sayid flashback. No one should take “So this is purely speculation…” as fact. I’m sorry if I confused you.

I think at this point any flashback going back that far is going to have some pretty big mythological implications. Think about the last flashback we saw, Locke in Cabin Fever, showed us how the island has been pulling at him all his life. Maybe we’re going to get something similar with Sayid. I don’t really care how he became able to be a killer - I think his history as a tortuer that started with “One of Them” is more than enough for me to believe he could become an assassin.
Or if it is just a typical ‘character confronts demon from his past and overcomes it’ kind of flashback, then I don’t feel very good about Sayid’s chances of surviving the episode. See - Shannon, Eko, Ana Lucia.

ooo, how interesting.
Thanks for pointing out the Parental Issues deal. The people we know of that follow this pattern are:
-Hurley (Dad ran away)
-Kate (Blew up her dad)
-Jack (Doy)
-John Locke (He stole my kidney!)*
-Ana Lucia (Very similar to Jack’s case)
-Walt**
-Benjamin Linus (gassed his dad)
-Sawyer (dad killed mom, then killed himself)
-Claire (Never met her father until her mother died)
-Aaron (Claire’s son)
-Christian (From what he’s told Jack in Lost: Missing Pieces)
-Sun (Mr. Paik….obviously)
-Jin (father was the fisherman that Jin told everyone was deceased)
-Shannon and Boone
You get the picture. Basically you can pick up the season 2 box set and point out the parental flaws of everyone there.
*I wanted to point out that I feel this is significant because his father made an appearance on the island, in season three. Benjamin said that Locke “wasn’t who we thought he was” when he was unable to kill his father. What’s interesting, is that the dead Christian Shephard was able to be seen by many on the island. It’s also interesting that after he came after Claire, she became “one with the island”
**So maybe the island brings people with these types of issues. Maybe that has something to do with the fact that babies that are born on the island die, unless treated the way Aaron was. Hmm. So maybe the island brought Walt, rather than Michael, which would explain why he has such an unexplained connection with the island.
In conclusion to this complete off-topicness, I think it would be Reallly interesting to find out what Sayied’s parental issues are.
