Vote for Lost for Show of the Year
TV.com started their annual Best of series and of course, this year, Lost is up for Show of the Year. It’s a little difficult to figure out which show is actually the best of 2008 because the Writers’ Strike halted a large portion of our regularly scheduled programming.
This year, Lost is up against some heavy hitters. The nominees for this year are:
Lost
Gossip Girl
House
Mad Men
This is how I see it - there is no way that Lost could lose to any of these shows. It’s not possible.
Gossip Girl gets like 3 million viewers a week, which is miniscule. Can I say though, never underestimate the power of tweens. We’ve seen them do it before and they can do it again. It’s like every time One Tree Hill wins an award - it’s mindboggling.
Mad Men - although awesome, has an even smaller viewership. Okay, I don’t know if it’s actually smaller and I’m a bit too lazy to look it up, but it’s a cable show and although it’s an Emmy gem, it won’t get this vote.
House - I’m still convinced it’s just like every other medical procedural (although much less like ER and Grey’s Anatomy and way more like CSI and NCIS) I’m told it’s very good. I have a feeling that due to the lack of legitimate canidates, House has a good chance of winning. American viewers have a small attention span. We haven’t seen Lost in quite some time and I feel that House may take it simply because it’s currently on.
What do you guys think? Are these shows as insulting as I think they are? Will Lost win by a landslide?
Vote here and vote OFTEN! I will not let the tweens take it!
Lost is also up for:
Best Episode - "There’s No Place Like Home (1)"
Best in Genre: Action Adventure

Sadly Mad Men will probably have it in the bag no question.

LOST currently has 69% of the vote. It’s kicking butt!

Lost is going to win for sure!

I really disagree with many of these categories. How was Dexter snubbed out of everything? How did they manage to avoid any girl from Chuck being nominated for hottest actress? And who the hell watches half of the shows listed? Also, how dare they nominate American Gladiator for worst show!
In all honesty though, House’s Head was a much better episode than There’s No Place Like Home, no ifs ands or buts. Hell, if it wasn’t for the new team on House, I would have voted it for best series.
Mind you, I think Lost is the greatest show of all time. I just think season 4 was a bit off a drop off from season 3. Slightly.
Comment by besch64 — November 15, 2008 @ 12:09 pm
besch64 you are crazy! House is a good show but no episode will ever compare to an episode of LOST and season 4 was the best season since season 1.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 15, 2008 @ 3:18 pm
ok, I’m sure Mad Men, House, and Gossip Girl are good shows, but I wouldn’t know, cuz Lost is the only show I watch ever!!!!!!! Anyway…Lost has it for sure!!
Comment by Shaunamomma — November 15, 2008 @ 4:02 pm
Actually Chris, I find it “crazy” that you say that every episode of Lost is better than any episode of any other show. While I agree that Lost in general is the best show on TV, the season 4 finale didn’t have the magic of Through the Looking Glass. On the other hand, House’s Head/Wilson’s Heart might be the best episodes of House ever. If I had to pick one show to watch, it would be Lost, but the House season finale was an absolutely breathtaking hour of television, whereas the Lost finale was simply very good.
Comment by besch64 — November 15, 2008 @ 8:56 pm
Well I have to disagree with you besch64. House’s Head was just an okay finally. It felt like they were trying too hard to make a unique episode. House is a good show but every episode has the same format… medical mystery… come up with many different ideas… don’t believe House… House has some sort of revelation… everyone then believes House… mystery solved… the end. House’s Head was no different execept for the weird visions/flashes.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 16, 2008 @ 10:11 am
To each his own. But I believe the fact that they took the formulaic nature of House and transformed it into something extremely powerful for the finale indicates what a brilliant episode it was. I agree, sometimes House feels like it’s trying to hard, but that certainly was not that episode.
I think you sounded very ignorant when you said, “House is a good show but no episode will ever compare to an episode of LOST.” If you can sit there and say that you were more entertained by S.O.S. or Stranger In a Strange Land than some of the greatest House episodes, then you are either biased to the point where you brainwash yourself or a liar.
Again, disclaimer, Lost is my favorite show. That doesn’t mean it’s infallible.

“If you can sit there and say that you were more entertained by S.O.S. or Stranger In a Strange Land than some of the greatest House episodes, then you are either biased to the point where you brainwash yourself or a liar.”
Or maybe……just maybe……….he has a different opinion than you do. Why is it so many people in online forums feel it’s acceptable to attack othes just for having an opinion that differs from theirs?? Are you really that intolerant?
Comment by Lorg — November 16, 2008 @ 1:57 pm
I’d reckon that the person who refuses to believe that any episode of any show ever could possibly be better than the weakest of Lost episodes is the intolerant one. That’s just lunacy.
Comment by besch64 — November 16, 2008 @ 2:04 pm
The Reason I feel that no House episode will ever be better than an episode of LOST is because with house you can miss an episode or ten and still know what’s going on and not miss a beat. LOST if you miss an episode it’s like a car with no wheels. So how could an episode of a show that it doesn’t matter if you miss it or not be better than an episode that is VITAL to the overall story?
Comment by Chris Temple — November 16, 2008 @ 4:51 pm
Because Lost has an over-arching story that spans every episode. If you skip an episode, it’s like skipping a chapter in a book. However, that doesn’t mean that every episode is good. If there was a really sh***y show that also had an over-arching story that spanned every episode and if you missed one you’re screwed, that doesn’t mean those episodes are good. I think you’ve confused the definition of “important” with “good.”

“I’d reckon that the person who refuses to believe that any episode of any show ever could possibly be better than the weakest of Lost episodes is the intolerant one.”
Then you’d be wrong, and you apparently don’t understand what the word “intolerant” means. The definition fits your posts, not his. Why are you even on an online forum if you have no use for others’ opinions? You’re wasting your time–and everyone else’s.
Comment by Luko2 — November 17, 2008 @ 5:51 am
Well I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree besch64 and I’m sure 99.9% of LOST fans will agree with me as well.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 17, 2008 @ 8:02 am
@Chris: Only if 99.9% of Lost fans are blind, biased fools.
@Luko2: Let’s consult a dictionary, shall we? “Intolerant: unable or unwilling to endure,” as in unable or unwilling to endure the thought that there might possibly be an episode of a show that is better than an episode of Lost.
I would also like to direct your attention to comments #4 and #5. As you can clearly see, I state my opinion, only to have it be called “crazy” by Chris, therefore making him the one who has “no use for others’ opinions.”
Comment by besch64 — November 17, 2008 @ 2:15 pm
besch64 I never said that every episode of LOST was better than every episode of every show ever. I just said that every episode of LOST is better than any episode of House.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 17, 2008 @ 4:11 pm
So? What does that change? What you essentially just said is that it’s reasonable to assume that every episode of House will pale in comparison to every episode of Lost, but only House and no other shows.
Your “logic” confuses me, and makes it seem like you are scrambling to combat my posts with whatever you can come up with. How come you hadn’t mentioned the fact that you were only talking about House until now? That’s rhetorical by the way. I know the answer.
Comment by besch64 — November 17, 2008 @ 5:46 pm
There is no way to argue this. I’m going to say how I feel. You are going to say how you feel. You’re not going to change my mind. I’m not going to change your mind. I’m a true LOST fan and you are not. I don’t care if you think I’m “crazy” or whatever. I just enjoy the show more than you.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 17, 2008 @ 7:11 pm
So a true Lost fan isn’t somebody who enjoys and follows the show, but rather somebody who demonstrates extreme ignorance by refusing to acknowledge that there are other great shows out there?
I’ll tell you what: I’m a bigger Lost fan than you. I’ve watched season one and season two three times each and season three twice on DVD. I followed the original Lost Experience religiously and didn’t use a walkthrough. I read many books on the Lost Book List for no other reason than them being featured in Lost. I have a Lost bumper sticker on my car. I stay up until one in the morning to watch each episode after I get home from work, and then I watch them again the next day to make sure I’ve caught everything. I’m the go-to guy in my group of friends for Lost. I’ve even read those three miserable excuses for books.
What makes me an even bigger fan? I appreciate the show for all it’s strengths, and because of this I can acknowledge its occasional weaknesses.
I thought House’s Head/Wilson’s Heart was a better finale then There’s No Place Like Home. You thought the opposite was true. Great, you’re entitled to your opinion, and I mine. The problem comes in when you fail to look at it with an open mind. If you want to be like that, fine. However, do not initiate an argument with somebody who doesn’t share your opinion, because chances are they don’t share your twisted perspective either.
Comment by besch64 — November 17, 2008 @ 8:13 pm
Well I must be a bigger fan than you because I have done every thing you have said except I have watched all the season 6 times, perfectly timed my tripometer and odometer to read 4 8 15 16 23 42, made my own lost tee shirts, and went to ComicCon just for LOST. I know more about LOST than you will ever know.
You just like House more than me. Get over it! It’s winning the survey so most people must agree with me NOT YOU!
Comment by Chris Temple — November 17, 2008 @ 8:25 pm
you’ve watched season 1+2 three times and season 3 two times
I’m pretty impressed that Chris’ car has 4 billion miles on it.
and you think you’re a pretty big Lost fan
that’s cute
Just kidding, I just read it wrong at first and had to “type it out loud”.
I’m totally on Chris’ side on this one. I mean there’s a lot of other good shows out there but once you fall in love with one in particular then nothing else can quite compare. It’s a lot like falling in love with a girl, the worst night with the girl you love is far better than the best night with some skank off the street
Yes, I am comparing House to some skank off the street. It might be some peoples favorite show but it sure as hell ain’t mine.
Comment by Jacob — November 18, 2008 @ 12:50 am
Thanks for siding with me Jacob. My car doesn’t have 4 billion miles. LOL I say that my car was going to hit 162342 miles so I carefully timed my tripometer to read 4815. I have the picture to prove it. I has to go around a parking lot like 5 times to get it just right so that it wouldn’t happen on the middle of the freeway. LOL
I’ve also always thought House was a dirty skank.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 18, 2008 @ 8:11 am
I don’t know if you noticed, but I wasn’t trying to have a Lost fan contest with you. Maybe you have a t-shirt. Cool bro. I personally like how you decide to go the route of saying “well I’m a bigger fan than you” instead of trying to rationalize your bizarre phobia of enjoying another television show. I don’t blame you: it’s irrational.
Hypothetically, if I WAS in a Lost fan competition with you: I’ve been to Comic-Con as well and if you read my last post, I said I watch each episode twice when it comes out, and then thrice, thrice and twice more for seasons one, two, and three respectively on DVD. So essentially, I’ve watched S1 five times, S2 five times, and S3 four times. I’ve only watched season 4 twice, because it hasn’t come out on DVD yet and simply, it’s probably not worth more than one more watch through when it does.
Also, just in response to Jacob: the fact that you compare your love of a television show to the love between two people is really kind of depressing.
For me (and every other open-minded TV viewer), an amazing episode of House is far better than a bad episode of Lost. I’m not trying to say that There’s No Place Like Home was bad; far from it. However, it was a huge disappointment when stacked up against Through the Looking Glass, which I maintain is probably the greatest hour of television of all-time. House’s Head/Wilson’s Heart, on the other hand, is the best episode of House.
I’m done with this dispute. I respect all of your opinions, and you should respect mine. For the future though, you should probably be more open-minded when talking about other TV shows. That’s all I’ve been trying to say. Maybe I’ve been slightly hostile coming across, but really I was just trying to say that having an open mind is something you should consider.
I’ll see you at Comic-Con.

And while we’re sharing amusing “numbers” anecdotes:
I used to work at a restaurant. I was feeling pretty lazy one day on the job, so I decided to wait until the end of the night to set all the tables instead of setting them as they’re cleared. So, all of our tables seat four people. I was counting out how many silverware wraps I would need, and I counted “four, eight, fifteen, sixteen, twenty-three, forty-two…” I stopped, thinking “there’s no way I can be up to forty-two already. I tried again and did the same thing. I eventually realized that I was just saying the numbers. To say the least, I was kind of freaked out that my brain was capable of something like that.
Comment by besch64 — November 18, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
besch64 O do have an open mind about other tv shows. I do watch House, among many other shows. LOST is just head and shoulders above them ALL. And I must disagree that Season 4 of LOST is only worth 1 viewing on DVD.
I do agree that this discussion should be over. I don’t really mind what other people think about any episode I was just stating my opinion. I just happen to feel that LOST is the best.
Comment by Chris Temple — November 18, 2008 @ 3:26 pm
I think what we’ve learned from this little discussion is it’s a bad idea to say anything remotely negative about a show on a website dedicated to it.
