Greetings Everybody!
I’d like to use my first post to introduce myself to everybody here at thetailsection.com. My name is Brian Rowe.
I have just been given the opportunity to join the site and keep you guys up to date on Lost news and rumors. I’m basically here to help Don and the rest of the staff make this the go-to Lost site on the net. Look for installment one of my Ten Greatest Lost Episodes countdown starting next week. I’ll be counting down the best/most important episodes thus far and analyzing them in the context of where we are now, on the brink of season five. Should be a wild ride this season, as always. So long for now. - B Rowe

I’m looking forward to more Brian!

Hi to you Brian. I am so hoping that you can help to restore this site to its former glory. Good luck to you and Don
Comment by Eve — October 30, 2008 @ 4:25 pm
Good luck to Don? He’s the guy who let this site die. I’m hoping he’s completely removed from the site herein.
Comment by Don? — October 30, 2008 @ 4:29 pm
Glad to hear there’s some resuscitation going on here. This place definitely needs some new blood, it’s been attracting nothing but nay-sayers and people who do nothing but harrass everyone else. Just a suggestion; there should be at LEAST one new post a day or it’s just never going to work AND you should have to log into an account to comment because otherwise there’s no way to keep control of some of the people that just bring the rest of us down like the guy who posted right before me, we don’t need any of that.
Good luck Brian!
Comment by B*Locke — October 31, 2008 @ 12:30 am
I completely disagree with B*Locke. Censorship is never a good thing, nor is removing the freedom of speech. Don? posted something that the vast majority of posters have been saying for months now, and to try to deny him that right would just be wrong. No moderation, no censorship, no holier-than-though-fan BS. That said, his recommendation of daily posts is spot-on. This site died not because of the “nay-sayers” (a ridiculous assertion), but rather due to the lack of activity.
Comment by Lorg — October 31, 2008 @ 5:06 am
Exactly. Saying the fans are the reason this site went south is a prime example of confusing cause and effect. The fans were reacting to the lack of content. It wasn’t the other way around–the lack of content wasn’t caused by the fans’ negative posts. It’s absurd to blame the visitors for this site’s demise. I’m all for fixing this site and adding new content on a regular basis–it desperately needs it, having lacked any content for months–but calling for moderation is the LAST thing this site needs. We have precious few members left at this point, as it is–refusing to allow some of them to post would be insanely counter-productive, and would only serve to reduce the total number of visitors even further. “Field of Dreams” had a very wise catch-phrase: “If you build it, they will come.” Don’t bar the door for them to enter–build it, and they’ll come. If this site becomes worth visiting again, then those who visit won’t complain about it. It’s as simple as that. B*Locke says “we don’t need any of that” in regard to people complaining–at the same time that he complains about the post above his. What we don’t need any of is hypocrisy–and censorship. Don let the site whither, and calling him on it is neither negative nor nay-saying–it’s being realistic about what happened. And someone saying they don’t want Don involved anymore is no different than someone saying “Joel Schumacher? He destroyed the Batman franchise–don’t let him do another Batman film.” or “Rick Berman? He destroyed the Star Trek franchise–don’t let him do another Star Trek series.” It’s smart advice. In any case, people have a right to discuss their opinions–that’s what the comments section is supposed to be for–and Don? did nothing wrong in expressing his. Don’t be a book-burner, B*Locke.

This is all relative really. The reason this site has been lacking in content of late isn’t due to any one person, but solely because the show isn’t on at the moment. The same thing happened last year when we had to wait eight months between seasons 3 and 4, and now history is simply repeating itself. I believe that the decision to the air the final two seasons as three was the worst thing that could ever have happened to the show. Come Jan-May 2009 this site will be overflowing with news, discussion, opinions, theories… then, same as what happened this year, once the season 5 finale has aired and we are forced to wait another 8 months for season 6 to begin, there will be nothing. There has never been a bigger contradiction in the history of network television than when Darlton told us, at the end of season 3, that an end date, and therefore a final resolution to the LOST saga was in sight, but then told us we’d have to wait three years to see it. If they had just stuck to the original format instead of breaking it up like this (writer’s strike or no writer’s strike), then we’d be discussing the first few eps of season 5 by now and not having to fill the void with pointless arguments over sites such as this one lacking content. There’s no content because there’s nothing left to talk about. Every possible avenue of discussion relating to the 80-odd episodes already produced has been exhausted and now we’re all starting to get restless. As far as I’m concerned this is purely the fault of Lost’s executive producers and ABC. I’m all for the art of anticipation, but this is just ridiculous.

well over at darkufo there are 20-30 new posts everyday during the hiatus. polls, theories, fan art, media articles, spoilers, competitions etc.

“The reason this site has been lacking in content of late isn’t due to any one person, but solely because the show isn’t on at the moment.” Sorry, but that’s irrelevant. This is the only Lost site that has been lacking in content–other sites have had a ton of new material, hiatus or not. The only reason this site has been lacking is because those running it haven’t had any interest in keeping it updated. If they had, there’d have been a lot to report.

Greetings Brian, and Welcome!
As you can see it can sometimes get a little heated here, but I think that’s just because the site really has gone downhill in the past. Most all of us, however, are optimistic about your involvement and look forward to your contributions.
Good Luck!!

Hi again, Brian. Well, by now you’ve got a small taste of some of the folks that post here. I hope this doesn’t discourage yourself and other “powers that be” to not want to try to improve the site. At one time, this was a really interesting and enlightening place to share ideas. I’m sure, at least I’m hoping, that you have a game plan to bring it back. I know, some time ago we were informed that there had been quite a few “theories” that we sent in, but were never posted. Maybe, if you could get some of them together and post them, it would be a start. It would truely be a shame if we couldn’t post our thoughts or get any new news here anymore. Again, good luck to you with the task ahead. I mean that from “all” of us. And to those who are now grumbling that I had no right to include all of you in that sentiment, please remember your manners.

Does it seem like the only new posts on this site are introductions that are introducing people who will help post content yet the only content being posted is that of bringing in new people to help post content?
Comment by BlutoSchmooto — November 3, 2008 @ 9:03 am
Bluto, I noticed this as well. Not to put discourage lost_girl or Brian–as I really do wish them a lot of luck in relaunching this dead site, and very much look forward to seeing what they do–but two weeks went by after she was introduced, during which no new content was added. Then Brian was added, and all we’ve gotten so far is the first entry in a top-ten list. One a day for 10 days? Seriously? That’s blatantly stretching a tiny bit of content way too far (let’s face it–top-ten lists are a dime a dozen, and pretty much the easy way out instead of posting actual content). Again, I mean no disrespect to either lost_girl or Brian…it’s just that a top-ten list stretched over ten days is really a very lackluster way to start.

Here is a copy of what is above every comment section on the DarkUFO site, sounds reasonable to me:
-N O T E
Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
If you have a problem, do NOT post it in the comments, email me here.
He even leaves an email address and encourages you to use it to help keep the comments free of any sort of problems. I don’t see how that would be against freedom of speech or anything. It’s a LOST site, it should be used for talking about LOST
am I wrong?
So, welcome to the site Brian!
Comment by DeGroots — November 4, 2008 @ 2:54 am
I agree with B*Locke in the fact that if there was at least ONE new post a day, even if it were a short one, it would at least give us a springboard to start conversation off of. I don’t mean any disrespect to anyone when i say this but there just seems to be a lot of bickering on this site. May-b this could be avoided if we would just talk about things related to the show rather than things related to this particular site?
Comment by ILoveJack — November 4, 2008 @ 3:21 am
Yeah why don’t we have to log in to comment? That seems kind of stupid. Anyone can just say anyting they want to around here and theres no way to hold them accountable. Like our friend “Jacob” up there. If we had to log in to comment that guy would never b coming on this site again becuase he would be kicked the F off.
Comment by Dharmalot — November 4, 2008 @ 4:07 am
It’s amazing to me (and kind of disturbing) how quickly people call for censorship and moderation. Are you all that determined to lose your freedom of speech? People SHOULD have the right to say what they want–it’s a fundamental right that everyone should have. What the hell is wrong with you people??
Comment by No Censorship — November 4, 2008 @ 9:00 am
The only “censorship” I’m talking about is censoring people that are disrupting the site. People that are negatively affecting the atmosphere of TheTailsection should not be allowed to continue posting. Criticism is fine, I’m more wanting the counteractive material taken away. If it’s not helping us then it’s hurting us. This site is about Lost and too many people have turned the subject of this site from a television show to focusing on the site itself and how it’s not good enough. But even more than that, take a trip over to Darkufo and I dare you to try and find anything negative on that site. Go ahead and look for people mocking each other or personally attacking one another, because it just doesn’t happen. Everyone on a site like that has the freedom to speak as long as it’s kept on topic and tasteful. I’m talking about order to eliminate the freeforall chaos that is this site.
Not to mention it would be a lot easier to keep track of who you’re talking to. Reading these comments a lot of the time I have the sneaking suspicion that there are about ten people that comment on this site and they just keep changing their names. Am I alone on thinking that? It seems like there are at least five posts on this article alone that are probably the same person under different names.
But yeah you’re right, people should have the right to say what they want… within certain boundaries. The problem with this site is there are no boundaries AT ALL. This is an anarchy site, in America we have rules to keep things in order, this site has no rules and that is at least part of the reason it’s crumbling (that and there’s very few new articles as people always like to point out several times a day).

DeGroots wrote: “The only “censorship” I’m talking about is censoring people that are disrupting the site. People that are negatively affecting the atmosphere of TheTailsection should not be allowed to continue posting.”
Censorship is censorship. It’s a dangerous precedent, and should be avoided at all costs.
“Criticism is fine, I’m more wanting the counteractive material taken away. If it’s not helping us then it’s hurting us.”
Well, your post would fall into that category, causing you (and me, for responding in kind) to be banned, as neither of us is discussing Lost at the moment, and are thus being ‘counteractive,’ as you put it.”
“This site is about Lost and too many people have turned the subject of this site from a television show to focusing on the site itself and how it’s not good enough.”
You’re confusing cause and effect again. There haven’t been any Lost-related posts for people to react to. The negativity is the reaction, NOT the problem. If the site becomes worth visiting again, it’ll inspire on-topic conversation. Right now, it isn’t–so it isn’t.
“But even more than that, take a trip over to Darkufo and I dare you to try and find anything negative on that site. Well, Darkufo actually puts up content, giving a reason for people to stay on-topic. Darkufo is an active site, with management focused on the topic at hand. The same can’t be said here.
“Not to mention it would be a lot easier to keep track of who you’re talking to. It’s possible, dunno. I don’t think that matters one way or another, though. The bottom line is still the same: the site needs to improve before it can keep people focused and interested again.
“But yeah you’re right, people should have the right to say what they want… within certain boundaries. The problem with this site is there are no boundaries AT ALL.”
The problem with this site is there is no content at all. The boundaries issue may compound the problem, but they’re not the main case. People have gotten antsy and bored and irritated because there’s no content anymore.
“This is an anarchy site, in America we have rules to keep things in order, this site has no rules and that is at least part of the reason it’s crumbling (that and there’s very few new articles as people always like to point out several times a day).”
This isn’t America. This is the Internet, and it’s international. (And the United States is crumbling, too. Having a non-anarchistic system hasn’t prevented that.)

Good fucking Lord, you’re the same bastard that keeps attacking everything I say every damn time I make a post!!! Are you just out to get me or something? Stop fucking with me man, go the fuck away. you don’t like what I have to say then don’t fucking read it.
There’s your no censorship, dick.
Comment by DeGroots — November 4, 2008 @ 12:37 pm
you know i wish people could get kicked off of this site because both of you should probably be kicked off of this site.
Comment by NaziUFO — November 4, 2008 @ 1:03 pm
DeGroots: Ummm…what are you talking about? I’m not attacking you, nor have I in the past, so I’m at a loss to explain your hostile and abusive reaction to me just now. My previous response to you was reasonable, conversational and polite. How it got that reaction out of you, I don’t know, but apparently, I’d be better off ignoring your posts herein. Yike.
NaziUFO: Are you referring to me? Why should I be banned? For replying to someone else’s comments in a friendly, non-confrontational manner? I’m confused. I’ve been nothing but polite to anyone, and have not resorted to name-calling and swearing, as DeGroots just did to me for some reason. I’m here to discuss Lost, and I’m interested in seeing this site improve, nothing more. Normally, I’m a lurker here, but this conversation interested me so I responded, only to get smacked down pretty rudely. I’m not sure why you’re calling for me to be kicked off–unless you were referring to someone else, in which case…well, never mind, then.

Wow. Who is Doc Arzt with the space? He’s not me, the former admin and creator of this site…just an FYI
Comment by DocArzt — November 6, 2008 @ 3:31 pm
Correct: I’m a different individual from DocArzt. I wasn’t trying to pass myself off as him, for the record–I just think Arzt is a great character on the show, and I’m a psychologist in the real world, so Doc Arzt seemed a natural username for me.
