‘Fringe’ Gets a Ratings Boost
My colleague cousinwalter may not have enjoyed the pilot of Fringe, but I’ve been loving the show so far. It’s not as instantly compelling as previous J.J. Abrams shows like Lost and Alias, but I’m happy to see a well made, wonderfully acted monster of the week show back on FOX. I thought last night’s episode, which featured a rapidly aging killer who accidentally impregnated a woman with a swiftly growing fetus, was extremely creepy and fun.
The heavily hyped pilot of Fringe pulled in just under 10 million viewers, but last night’s second episode, which followed the season premiere of House, did much better. Fringe was seen by 13.36 million people, which is a 48 percent increase from last week. It also held on to many of the 14.4 million viewers who tuned into House.
Can Fringe keep up its ratings surge next week? We’ll have to wait and see. What did you think of last night’s episode?

I also enjoy Fringe and would like to see it succeed…but isn’t this a website for Lost? Just because Fringe is an Abrams show doesn’t mean it has everything or anything to do with Lost. There are already plenty of fan sites for Fringe–why turn thetailsection.com into a Lost/Fringe site? Can we please keep this as a Lost-only website?

I haven’t seen FRINGE yet, and I plan to, but i think LOST is good IN SPITE of J.J. Abrams. He hasn’t impressed me that much… Mission Impossible III (OK). Alias? (I heard such good things about it, but was ultimately disappointed). Cloverfield (cool idea, but…). LOST is as good as it is because of Lindeloff & Cuse. You ALL know it. I HOPE they stick together AFTER LOST and create something cool together.

you’re so right Uncle Beaver.. beyond the initial creation and some of the first season.. Abrams has had very little hands on with Lost.. Lindelof and Cuse are who we have to thank. Honestly though.. I liked Cloverfield and even though I’ve always hated Star Trek.. I’m anxious to see what Abrams did with it.
I also agree that this is a Lost site… and since the buddytv takeover it has really slipped… there was no post regarding the new ARG test.. or the major casting news that just happened this past week.. but they sure are covering another show plenty

Yeah, what the heck? No Lost content for months beyond a few links here and there, and no responses to the many complaints people have posted about that…and now, instead of new content, we get a bunch of brief blog-type entries about Fringe? This site is not about Fringe, Don. It’s about Lost. And if you’re not able to come up with ANYTHING to say about Lost after all this time of posting nothing at all, then maybe it’s time for someone else to take over this site–someone, preferably, who has the time, the knowledge and the inclination to keep the site active and on target.

Fringe is Alias meets the X-Files. It owes a lot to those other shows. That being said, I’ve enjoyed it, though perhaps not as much as I enjoyed the two shows it borrows most heavily from.
What remains to be seen is whether it does a good job building up a story arc that transcends individual episodes and seasons. That’s Lost’s strong point, and though Alias did much the same thing, I suspect that the completeness of the plan and vision in Lost is more due to the work of Carlton and Damon than to JJ Abrams.
