Spoiler: Dead Character Returning for Season 5
This is obviously a spoiler, so click away if you don’t want to know. Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Michelle Rodriguez will be returning for one episode in Lost’s fifth season. The installment will also guest star Cheech Marin, who plays Hurley’s father, and will likely be the second episode of the season. That’s pretty much all the scoop Ausiello offers in his article, so it’s up to us to fill in the blanks.
There are two ways I can think of for Ana Lucia to return in season 5. She could, of course, appear in a flashback, or she could appear as a hallucination / manifestation of the island, much like Libby, Charlie, Christian Shephard, etc. If it is a Hurley-centric episode, as the Cheech guest spot makes it seem, I can’t imagine her appearing in a flashback. Maybe Hurley will find himself haunted by ghosts yet again. Whatever the reason for her return, I’m just happy to have Ana Lucia back again. Yes, I was one of the few people who actually liked her. What do you guys think?

With all the intertwining of relationships in Lost, I’d bet a chunk of change that Ana Lucia is Hurley’s half-sister by his absentee father. Perhaps she arrests their dad while he’s “Lost in East LA”…

I like there being a connection between Hurley and Ana Lucia as half-siblings, but that’s been done already with Jack and Claire.
I know this is ridiculous to hope for, but it’d be really awesome if Michael didn’t actually die on the freighter, and somehow he comes back to deal with the demons of his past, including the murders of Ana Lucia and Libby.

Looks like another flashback - oh, dear, it better be good as I thought we were not going to waste precious story telling time on unnecessary minor details (eg Juliet and Godwin lying on the beach staring at each other - timewaster). Damon/Carlton - let’s move it on, move forward!

I liked her, and am glad she will be back.
I can’t believe people didn’t like her because she killed Shannon! I loved her because she killed Shannon.
How could anyone like Shannon?

Good to hear. I was a little disappointed when they decided to kill her off. I’ve never liked the idea of bringing in two new characters at the start of a season only to do away with them by the end. Libby maybe, as she was more mysterious and the writers didn’t give us much info about her, but with Ana-Lucia her role was far more expansive and I wanted to know more. Imagine this for a connection:
Instead of Michael killing Ana-Lucia, he merely threatens to and instructs her to open the armoury to let Ben a.k.a Henry Gale out. She does so and Michael locks her in the armoury to escort Ben out of the Hatch without interruption. Just as he’s about to, Libby walks down and questions him, causing Michael to react by turning around and shooting her. Stunned, Ben grabs the gun from Michael and shoots him in the arm. Later, Jack, Locke and crew come down to the hatch to find what has happened. Ana-Lucia, thinking that Ben killed Libby starts going after him. Michael escorts Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley to the Pala Ferry to give them up in exchange for Walt. Just as they arrive we see Mr. Friendly dragging Ana-Lucia out of the jungle at the same time, having found her after failing to track Ben down before he could make it back to the Barracks. They send Hurley back with his message but decide to take Ana-Lucia with them to the Hydra station. It is there where Ana-Lucia discovers that Danny Pickett, is in fact her ‘Danny’ that she referred to in ‘Collision’.
I have other such wonderful alternative ideas. Such as, instead of killing Michael 5 episodes after bringing him back, for mine, it would have been better to keep him around and make him a member of the Oceanic 6, then he would have hide the fact that his son Walt is also alive which I think would make for some good tension.
And then, of-course, there’s Eko’s death, which I believe should never have happended. But I guess that was due mainly to Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje being difficult about his contract. I only hope that he gets over whatever his problems were so the writers can bring back Mr. Eko for an episode or two in either the upcoming or final season. What do ya’ll think? Does anybody else have any interesting alternative story angles? I’d like to hear them.

Jim- awesome guess. I would actually approve of that. I have been a staunch advocate of no more coincidental family connections since the Jack/Claire plot is already out there, but that is mainly because everyone that has been suggested since has involved living people. An Anna Lucia/Hurley reveal would be simple, Anna Lucia wouldn’t be crucial to the advancement of the story, maybe an episode or two, they don’t need resolution, but it might give Hurley something else to work with other than the curse/numbers.
Anna Lucia was a vapid hothead with no redeeming qualities. She was Sayid’s yes man. Unless she reappears as a spy that Sayid needs to kill, I don’t see what she can add to the saga other than being a device for putting out more information. Wasn’t her partner is the original Gulf War at one point in a scene with Sayid or was that the guy in the hatch?
Dan, I couldn’t disagree more. The writers interwove Libby with both Hurley and Desmond’s past. The Hurley/Libby crush was infinitely more interesting then anything Ana Lucia has done on the island. She was the pre-season 4 version of Michael- Michael would just yell “Walllt!” and Ana Lucia would just want to kill someone. They didn’t seem developed at all which is probably why they got killed off.
Hopefully Michael isn’t dead because it would be a shame to kill him off right when he gets interesting. Perhaps they will give Ana Lucia some relevance since she lacked it in season 2, that would be a nice gift to the viewers.
Mr. Eko didn’t have a contract problem, he had a problem with living on an island. Unless they build a sound stage in LA for his scenes, I don’t think they’ll be bringing him back. Perhaps he will find the allure of television money was worth living on an island for a season and will ask to come back, it would be nice to revisit the dead since most of them were got PAWNED.

Stu, not that i liked Dans ideas either, but they were ALTERNATE ideas. so, very irrelevant, as LOST doesnt DO alternate…well, so far, anyway.
having said that, Dans comments would have been a more melodramatic way to deal with Ana Lucia. disagree totally about Libby; shes one of the BEST mysteries of LOST. the way she was so insignificant for most of season 2, until the final scene of ‘Dave’ with the mental institute scene, and then in desmonds flashback, it was very clever. no-one really cared about her, the shy, timid woman who survived from the tail, but THEN! then, they made her interesting, and now shes one of my favourite characters. along with rouseau…ironically, theyre both dead, but i love how that makes no difference.

Don’t forget about Nikki! she was hot as well, my hypothesis on why the hotties keep getting killed off.

imagine if Ana Lucia was still alive, Sawyer would be getting alot of action, there would be no more love triangle between Jack Sawyer and Kate… and if there is no more tension between them Jack wouldn’t be all macho and try to get everyone off the island so he can impress Kate… he’d just be chillin with Kate like Juliet was with Goodwin.
Sayid would be out with Shannon so Sayid wouldn’t do anything, so they wouldn’t want to leave
Hurley would lose all his weight for Libby and they wouldn’t want to leave the island either.
Bottom Line: the survivors are just looking for a nice piece of uh.. booteh. since all the ones on the island are dead, they HAVE to get off the island. think about the show if none of the girls died? it’d be a bunch of plane survivors partying everyday with Dharma beer dropping from the sky.
