UPDATE: ‘Lost’ Stars Renegotiating Their Contracts
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Matthew Fox will now be earning $225,000 per episode. There have been no raises reported for Evangeline Lilly or any of the supporting cast just yet.
I wish I had a job that paid me $150,000 for every 8 days of work, but alas, I’m not a television actor. That’s what Lost stars Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly currently make for each episode of the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both actors are renegotiating their salaries with ABC Studios in the hopes of getting raises. When word about the renegotiations leaked out on Friday, reps for some of Lost’s supporting stars also jumped in to get their clients more money. The supporting actors currently make about $80,000 - $90,000 an episode.
Negotiations like this are perfectly normal in Hollywood, so it comes as no surprise that Fox and Lilly would like a bit more cash for their last two years on the show. To compare their salaries to other hit shows, the ladies on Desperate Housewives pull in about $440,000 an episode, James Gandolfini received a whopping $1 million per episode near the end of The Sopranos, and Zach Braff earns about $350,000 for each installment of Scrubs. These numbers make the Lost cast seem like an absolute steal in comparison.
It’s a shame that Fox and Lilly make more than the rest. Much as I like their characters, they’ve both become so peripheral to the show. Locke, Ben, Daniel, Desmond and Hurley are SO much more interesting to me, and have much better onscreen personae. Fox and Lilly used to be integral parts of the show, but they’ve passed their prime, in my opinion.

Kate is trivial to this show, how the actress that portrays her can be considered a star of the show and get more money than the rest of the “ensemble” is beyond me too. Here is my suggested tiers for who should be making the most money given their contribution and importance to the show:
Tier 1
Jack, Ben, Locke (You cannot have the show without these 3 guys, they are the most important)
Tier 2
Kate, Sawyer, Desmond (Kate is worthless to the story, if she were killed the love story between Jack and Sawyer and her would end, but that is all fluff at the end of the day and has no bearing on saving humanity. Her only redeeming quality to be this high is she gets a bunch of screen time by tagging along with everyone. Sawyer is the anti-jack, the rebel that is needed for the show, he provides the humor that can offset the intensity of the show. Desmond is crucial to the Penny and Widmore saga and was in the best episode ever (The Constant).
Tier 3
Sayid, Jin, Sun, Hurley, Claire (Claire only because she is now tied in with Aaron and Christian, otherwise she should be tier 4. Hurley, Jin, Sun and Sayid have nothing to offer the show, but as part of the O6 or relatives of them, they do have more importance than Tier 4 people)
Tier 4
Rose, Juliett, Bernard, Michael, (The show can go on without any of the people)

I disagree, Locke’s Lost Kidney. Loop has a point–where IS the original content? There used to be some, and the fact that the show is on hiatus shouldn’t have any bearing on that. Doc Arzt posts new content all the tine. Trekweb and Trekmovie has been posting Trek-related items every day for years, and there hasn’t been a new Trek production in years, other than film coming out next year. And MI6 posts James Bond stories every day, whether or not a film is in production. This site, before the current administrators came in, used to post content every day, even during off-seasons, because the folks running the site back then gave a damn about Lost, and about the fans. It’s obvious that’s just not the case with the new guys.

I think it would be hard to negotiate with a show like Lost when most of the actors don’t really have much job security due to how easy they can get killed off. Obviously Tony Soprano wasn’t going to die (at least before the end of the show) with Lost you don’t have that same guarantee.
