The DharmaWantsYou ARG is moving forward ever so slowly. The second assessment test appeared online today, and below you can see the e-mail announcing it. There’s also a clue buried within the source code of the e-mail, which reads, "The Dharma Initiative - Guiding the World to a Bitter Tomorrow - BS." Here’s a hint: That i is not a typo.
The test is a 10 question multiple choice quiz, and after taking it you’ll be placed into one of three different groups: Steropes, Polyphemus or Brontes. According to Lostpedia, all three are Cyclopes from Greek mythology.
Check out the e-mail below, then head to DharmaWantsYou to take the test.

This is obviously a spoiler, so click away if you don’t want to know. Michael Ausiello over at Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Michelle Rodriguez will be returning for one episode in Lost’s fifth season. The installment will also guest star Cheech Marin, who plays Hurley’s father, and will likely be the second episode of the season. That’s pretty much all the scoop Ausiello offers in his article, so it’s up to us to fill in the blanks.
There are two ways I can think of for Ana Lucia to return in season 5. She could, of course, appear in a flashback, or she could appear as a hallucination / manifestation of the island, much like Libby, Charlie, Christian Shephard, etc. If it is a Hurley-centric episode, as the Cheech guest spot makes it seem, I can’t imagine her appearing in a flashback. Maybe Hurley will find himself haunted by ghosts yet again. Whatever the reason for her return, I’m just happy to have Ana Lucia back again. Yes, I was one of the few people who actually liked her. What do you guys think?
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello seems to have all the scoops on the new characters joining Lost next season. We already talked about the mysterious Caesar and Ilanna here, and now it’s been revealed that an attractive Asian woman named Martha will appear in the first episode. According to Ausiello, "she’s a smart, capable scientist who’s taking a break to raise her baby." Hmm, sounds like she could be Pierre Chang’s wife, does it not? Maybe taking a break to raise little Miles? That’s one theory.
Ausiello also reports that a character named Dan will be coming in to stir up trouble on the series. He’s described as a high-priced attorney who can be friendly, but has a "real menace lurking below the surface." Any thoughts on what Dan’s purpose could be?

I think we can all agree that the new Dharma ARG has been a bit anticlimactic thus far. The new test was supposed to go online yesterday, but I just got an e-mail this morning (which you can see below) announcing the launch. Of course, as of this moment I can’t get DharmaWantsYou.com to open, so I’m unable to check out what’s been added to the site. Anyone else able to take the test? Sound off below.
I may not be able to take the test, but the good folks over at Lostpedia have all the info about it. Test one is a "Pressurized Spacial Judgement Evaluation." Lostpedia says that, "The rules are to simply place shapes in the box and create a full square out of them. Not all pieces are needed to complete the shape, and it can be challenging, including very thin pieces as part of the puzzle. The quickest solution to the test is most likely putting in the corner pieces first, then the larger ones, and then adding the minor ones. The test is a tangram, forcing you to fit as many as needed of the pieces given into the shape of a rectangle. There are multiple versions of pieces."
Sounds like fun! Now if only the site would open…

The new Lost ARG over at DharmaWantsYou.com apparently kicks off today, but the site still has nothing significant to report. The main page still says "Volunteer Assessment Commences 8-19-08." I for one am tired of waiting for the volunteer assessment to commence, so what’s the hold up?
The only addition to the site today is the ability to download an ID card. If you head to the "My Profile" page you can download a PDF file that gives you an ID card with a bar code and a series of numbers underneath it. Do these numbers mean anything significant? Is everyone assigned different numbers? Mine are 845 0306 5542.
UPDATE: The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Matthew Fox will now be earning $225,000 per episode. There have been no raises reported for Evangeline Lilly or any of the supporting cast just yet.
I wish I had a job that paid me $150,000 for every 8 days of work, but alas, I’m not a television actor. That’s what Lost stars Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly currently make for each episode of the series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both actors are renegotiating their salaries with ABC Studios in the hopes of getting raises. When word about the renegotiations leaked out on Friday, reps for some of Lost’s supporting stars also jumped in to get their clients more money. The supporting actors currently make about $80,000 - $90,000 an episode.
Negotiations like this are perfectly normal in Hollywood, so it comes as no surprise that Fox and Lilly would like a bit more cash for their last two years on the show. To compare their salaries to other hit shows, the ladies on Desperate Housewives pull in about $440,000 an episode, James Gandolfini received a whopping $1 million per episode near the end of The Sopranos, and Zach Braff earns about $350,000 for each installment of Scrubs. These numbers make the Lost cast seem like an absolute steal in comparison.
UPDATE: I still can’t get through to the website, but TTS reader TrillianM is reporting that the start date is Tuesday, August 19.
A new e-mail was sent out from the folks at DharmaWantsYou.com this morning, which you can view below. The e-mail claims that you can head to the website to "confirm the launch date" for the new ARG, but right now it looks like the site is nothing more than a blank page. Unfortunately I don’t think the blank page is some sort of fancy Dharma clue that we have to decode, but a server overload that’s preventing the site from loading properly. I’ll update this entry as soon as the date is announced.

Gone are the days when content made exclusively for the web starred no-name actors and was done on a miniscule budget. Joss Whedon’s recent online musical, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, did a lot to wipe away the perception that online content is somehow lesser than that made for other mediums. In other words, just because it goes straight to the web doesn’t mean it’s terrible.
That being said, I have no idea if the new sci-fi web series called Gemini Division will be any good, but it has attracted some big stars. The series stars the awesome Rosario Dawson (Sin City), Smallville’s Justin Hartley, Kevin Alejandro (Ugly Betty) and Lost’s Francois Chau (Dr. Marvin Candle / Pierre Chang).

"Because You Left"
Jeff Jensen at EW.com has revealed the title of the first episode of season 5, and it is rather fitting isn’t it? It perfectly ties in with what Locke told Jack before kicking the bucket — that whatever happened on the island happened because he left. This being Lost, I’m sure the title may have another meaning that won’t become apparent until we see the episode.
Check out Jensen’s entire article for his thoughts on the new ARG, the Comic-Con video and the Lost book club. He also throws around a few fake titles for the premiere episode, including "The Bridge," "No Time Like the Present" and "The Sacrifice." Don’t be fooled. The real title is indeed "Because You Left."

There hasn’t been a lot of action over at DharmaWantsYou.com just yet. We’re all signed up and hoping something exciting will happen, but so far it’s been a whole lot of waiting. Thankfully, it seems like the waiting is almost over. This e-mail popped up in my inbox this morning, and it promises that something is coming very soon:
