‘Lost’ Actors Shut Out of Top Emmy Categories
The announcement of the Emmy nominations is still over a week away, but the good people over at The Envelope have been updating regularly with what actors and shows have a shot at being nominated. The good news: Lost is on the short list for a Best Drama Series nod, and Naveen Andrews and Michael Emerson could both be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. The bad news: Actors such as Henry Ian Cusick, Yunjin Kim, Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell were shut out.
Now there’s more bad news, as the website has announced who has a shot at Best Drama Actor and Actress, and neither Matthew Fox or Evangeline Lilly made the cut. While I always enjoy keeping track of the acting Emmys, I’m even more nerdily excited to see who gets nominated for writing awards. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for numerous Lost scribes to make it in, though we won’t know for sure until next week.

What the heck? Michael Emerson is up for an Emmy, after having hardly done anything all season, but not Cusack, Holloway and Mitchell? What are the people at the Academy smoking? As for Lilly, I’m not surprised–she’s not one of the stronger actors in the cast, in my opinion, and Kate’s character has been kind of pointless for a while now.

i am also disappointed that Cusack and Holloway got shut out, but come on. Michael Emerson hasn’t done anything all season??? That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. He’s been pretty much amazing this entire season. Cusack wasn’t given a lot of screen time this year, and even though his performance in The Constant was top notch, Emerson was front and center and (i felt) the strongest character in season 4. Gotta give the man some credit.

I’m with Mike. In fact, I think Emerson is the most emmy-deserving cast member for Season 4, seconded by either Yunjin Kim or Elizabeth Mitchell, with Mitchell having a stronger year in Season 3.

Whoops!!! Sorry, I meant to write Naveen Andews, not Michael Emerson, as having done little all season. Emerson is AMAZING and should have ten Emmys, and I am feeling chagrined right now for not re-reading what I wrote before posting it. My apologies, Mr. Emerson.
Andrews is great, of course, but like the rest of the cast, he’s consistently outshone by Mitchell, Cusack, O’Quinn and, in season 4, Davies. To think that not one of them is up for an Emmy, while Andrews is, boggles my mind.
To reiterate: Emerson is Da’ Man.

I’m not surprised that neither Matthew nor Evie were nominated as neither, IMO, has done anything exceptional in S04 (Kate has pretty much used up all of her emotions as has Jack). But to leave out Henry Ian Cusick when The Constant was submitted for best ep is beyond me! Each season Cusick has topped himself and then to not get nominated is just bollocks! And while Yunjin Kim was amazing in the finale, she didn’t really have much that I can recall for the whole season. ME, as Ben, is always great but I don’t think the character holds a candle to Desmond. Ben, as it should be, is pretty much a one-note-guy … hard to ever read him whereas Desmond is just the opposite … filled with a rainbow of emotions. I think that if I had to compare the two and pick one, I’d take Ian’s Desmond as I am more impressed with wide ranges of emotion than the cold and calculating type. I think the first is harder to be convincing at than the second.

I was a bit disappointed that Cusick didn’t get in, and Yunjin Kim making it would have been nice, but honestly? I don’t think that Holloway, Lilly, and Fox are particularly Emmy-worthy. Not to say they’re bad, of course, but simply that I don’t think they qualify to be in the top five (or top ten) for each of their respective categories. As for Mitchell, she should have gotten in last year, but this year she wasn’t as front and center. Still, I was pleased to see Andrews and Emerson make it in the drama supporting actor category. Like the drama supporting actress category, it’s very competative. But since they did make it, to title this post “‘Lost’ Actors Shut Out of Top Emmy Categories” is pure bull. Really now.

The two episodes submitted to the Emmys were The Constant and the premeir, neither particularily large amounts of Ben in them. So the Michael Emrson is sort of a ‘why?’ unless people are voting regardless of what episodes were submitted, which is entirely possible. Celebs seem to generally dig Lost, and they make up a part of it. But yeah, no Cusick for The Constant? Guess there hasnt been enough press to tell people to like him. I think I just implied something hypocritical to my other idea, so I’m leaving.
