‘Lost’ Actors Make Best Supporting Actor Short List
The Envelope.com is slowly getting its hands on the possible Emmy nominees in the acting categories. A few days ago I reported that Lost is on the final top 10 list for possible drama nominees, and now a couple of the show’s actors have made the list for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. Here’s the list:
Naveen Andrews, Lost
Bruce Dern, Big Love
Christian Clemenson, Boston Legal
Ted Danson, Damages
Michael Emerson, Lost
Zeljko Ivanek, Damages
T.R. Knight, Grey’s Anatomy
William Shatner, Boston Legal
John Slattery, Mad Men
Blair Underwood, In Treatment
Jake Weber, Medium
You’ll notice that Terry O’Quinn, who won the Emmy last year, is nowhere to be found. I can’t really complain about this, as Locke didn’t really have as much to do in season 4. The man who deserves to get nominated and to win is Michael Emerson, who really got a chance to shine in "The Shape of Things to Come." Debate amongst yourselves on whether Henry Ian Cusick, Daniel Dae Kim, Jeremy Davies, Josh Holloway, or any other Lost actors should have made the list.
The nominations will be announced on July 18, but I’ll keep updating until then if more Lost actors make it to the top 10. Go Yunjin Kim!
UPDATE!
Yunjin Kim didn’t make it after all, nor did anyone I find particularly interesting. Here are the ladies being considered for Outstanding Supporting Actress nominations:
Jane Alexander, Tell Me You Love Me
Candice Bergen, Boston Legal
Rose Byrne, Damages
Jill Clayburgh, Dirty Sexy Money
Sharon Gless, Burn Notice
Rachel Griffiths, Brothers and Sisters
Christina Hendricks, Mad Men
S. Epatha Merkerson, Law and Order
Sandra Oh, Grey’s Anatomy
Dianne Wiest, In Treatment
Chandra Wilson, Grey’s Anatomy

This has to be Michael’s year. However, Terry won last year partially cause the Emmy voters saw him star in both “Man From Tallahassee” and in Michael’s “Man Behind The Curtain” tape. Hopefully Michael can get the same boost if he and Naveen get in- though he’d have a better shot if Terry got in and Michael could have also been seen stealing scenes in “Cabin Fever”
Unfortunatly, the Envelope also just posted the Supporting Actress list and Yunjin Kim didn’t get in the semis- neither did Elizabeth Mitchell or any other Lost supporting ladies.

Have to disagree with you on who should win … unless, of course, it’s between ME and NA (the two nominated). But far as I’m concerned (and I’m not alone), Henry Ian Cusick has blown ME away with The Constant. Not because ME isn’t an amazing actor, because he is, but Ben just does not ever deliver the range of emotion and depth of character that Desmond delivers. That is no slight of the actors of either but why ME or NA gets nominated over Ian is beyond me. After The Constant it should have been evident that Ian was more than capable of repeating the kind of emotional roller coaster that he brought to the table when he got his first nomination. Either those on the committee this time around hadn’t been on the previous one or they have a bad case of amnesia. Either way, it’s a real shame that Ian has not gotten the recognition that he deserves. But his day will come! He only gets better as each role comes his way.

Henry Ian Cusick could have been on that list for sure. I thought he was AMAZING in ‘The Constant’.
The problem is, those who watch the show (which could be a fairly sizeable amount among Emmy voters) know that Desmond was essentially a one episode arc this year.
So, maybe they did get it right.
Thank God Michael Emerson wasn’t snubbed. He should win, hands down.

Yeah, count me with those who say it’s a real shame that Cusick didn’t make the top ten list. Still, I’m pleased to see Emerson and Andrews there. I’m kinda wondering if they might do when Emerson and O’Quinn did last year and both get in because their tapes support each other. Mitchell, like O’Quinn, really didn’t have any Emmy-worthy material this year, but it would have been great for Yunjin Kim to have made the top tens. Go Andrews & Emerson!

I’m kinda pissed that Robert Sean Leonard (Wilson on House) wasn’t nominated for the Finale alone. I mean his performance in the last two episodes is pretty much what the Emmys are FOR. Amazing.
Oh well….
An awards show that has never honored The Wire has no credibility anyway.

Totally agree with you, Gary. Robert Sean Leonard was amazing.

I’m disappointed that neither Henry Ian Cusick or Jeremy Davies made the short list, but I can understand that Naveen Andrews and Michael Emerson had more to do this season and both did fantastically well so are deserving of their places on the list. Cusick was brilliant in The Constant, as well as the finale and Davies was consistantly good with what he was given this year.

I don’t see the fact that HIC was only in one episode/story-arc as a reason why he wasn’t nominated. The emmy nominators look at stand-alone episodes. ME could have only appeared in the episode in which he was nominated and it wouldnt matter.
In fact, there was an actress who won not too long ago and she was only in one episode and only for a few minutes (there was a lot of drama over this). Her name was Ellen something.

I don’t fall out with Naveen Andrews and Michael Emerson, but for me Henry Ian Cusick blows them both away. He never turns in a bad performance and manages to make everything he does believable. HIC rules, but good luck to the 2 who got nominated this year.
