‘Lost’ Makes the Emmy Award Short List
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, aka the folks behind the Emmys, have released a list of the ten shows that are in the running to be nominated for Best Drama Series. This list will be pared down to five nominees, which will then be announced on July 17 when the Emmy nominations are revealed. The list consists of:
Boston Legal
Damages
Dexter
Friday Night Lights
Grey’s Anatomy
House
Lost
Mad Men
The Tudors
The Wire
Lost’s inclusion here is fantastic, especially since it hasn’t been given enough Emmy love since its first season. While I’m sad to see Battlestar Galactica passed over yet again, it’s hard for me to argue with the inclusion of most of these shows. Well, aside from Boston Legal, which belongs in the comedy category. Here is a list of the potential nominees for comedy series:
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Entourage
Family Guy
Flight of the Conchords
The Office
Pushing Daisies
30 Rock
Two and a Half Men
Ugly Betty
Weeds
Kind of a weird list, but it works for me. It’s impossible to deny the greatness of shows like Pushing Daisies, 30 Rock and The Office.
What do you guys think? Is it Lost’s time to win Best Drama Series yet again? I think it certainly deserves it, but I have a feeling Mad Men will steal the award when the Emmys are handed out this September. The Emmys always go for the new kid on the block over the seasoned veteran, no matter which show had the better season.

I know that I may get hated for this, but no matter how much lost deserves drama, I hope they give it to damages because It is truly brilliant and equal to LOST. Plus it really needs a rating boost because it has been so small. Anyone interested, buy or rent the first season, that watch it this january on FX. You really need to watch them in a row maybe even more so than LOST.

New kid on the block always wins, eh? I didn’t believe it so I looked it up. Noticed a couple interesting things:
Besides LOST, the last time a show won Best Drama for its first OR second season was 7 years ago when The West Wing took home its second Emmy. It won the next two years as well. The Practice won the two previous years, its first and second seasons. Point is, only 3 rookies (including LOST) have won in the last ten years.
Also, you have to go back to 1988’s ‘Thirtysomething’ to find a show that won for its inaugural season but never after. The previous time this happened was in 1973 with ‘The Waltons’. Point is, if LOST doesn’t win in the next three years it will be only the second show not to follow up after a first season win in over 30 years. And if it isn’t even NOMINATED again, it will be the only “rookie winner” to hold that dubious distinction since the award was created in 1951. (Unless one of the next two winners get canceled before 2010.
Granted, I’m just talking about Best Drama, but it sure doesn’t seem like the veterans are getting screwed in this category at any rate.

Drama I want to win: LOST (of-course) if not, however, The Wire… and no, not just because it also stars Lance Reddick aka Matthew Abbadon.
Drama that will win: Grey’s Anatomy; maybe Damages
Comedies I would like to see win: Entourage, Family Guy or Two and a Half Men
Comedies that will more than likely win: Ugly Betty or 30 Rock; maybe The Office (which would be okay).
Watch on July 17 and see just how close to the mark I am. The Emmy’s… they’re so f-ing predictable. Who cares?
