Your Voice: I Want a Red Shirt Head Count
Submitted by Bernard Sawyerton
I love the action on Lost. It’s awesome. But with all off the guns, explosions, smoke monsters, and body-armor-laden-freighter-mercenaries there is bound to be quite a body count. The deaths on Lost are so plentiful and often surprising that it has become morbidly delightful to anticipate just who may go down next. We were shocked when Michael killed Ana-Lucia and Libby. Many wept when Charlie drowned. And of course the entire planet screamed "Nooo!" when Mr. Eko fell. But what of the unnamed background folk? Their deaths have been some of the most gruesome and gleeful of them all. Leslie Arzt? Gary Troup? Those schmucks that followed Locke to the barracks?
Even as a rabid Lost fan, I am confused. Where do these perpetual backgrounders stand at this moment in time, the end of season four? Where are the unnamed, unwashed beach bums we all have come to take for granted? The producers have stated during the Lost podcasts that Steve, of Scott & Steve fame, went with Locke, but was never seen. There also appeared to be a second unnamed female 815 survivor in Locke’s group as well. She had red hair. Neither of these two are seen or mentioned to be killed. Did Keamy’s men get them too? Are they lost in the jungle? Did they realize John Locke is totally tapped and screw back to the beach? What!?
Just how many Zodiac raft trips did Faraday get in before the freighter blew? We only saw two but there may have been time for more. Even if it were just the one delivery to the boat there’s still three more nameless jerks dead in the water with Jin and the remaining freighter crew. But there could be more we did not see transported. Craig appeared to be on Faraday’s final ferry ride, but what of the other barely mentioned bozos like Sullivan, Richard, or the Frogurt Guy? Were these clowns on the boat or the beach?
Maybe I’m over analyzing, but I for one would like to know exactly who Sawyer and Juliet will be leading against the NEW Team Locke (formerly the Others) next season. All of my stupid questions could be summarized with just a line or two of dialogue. Then we can get back to solving all those other little mysteries like time-travel, ghost-shacks, experimental science stations, four toed statues, and frozen donkey wheels.

From Lostpedia…
“26 of the total 71 initial survivors of the crash are known to have died during the the main timeline of events on the Island. There are as many as 47 remaining survivors; however, 13 of them have been absorbed by the Others and are rarely seen.”

I know this wasn’t really your question, but its interesting. I’m sure they’ll address how many are still on the island and alive. Since the chaos, they’re going to have to do some sort of reorganization or something.

i dont think they’ll need to do reorganizations and so on i think they are spot on right now and they know what they need to know theres always a theory behind every topic and the islanders well jin and dans raft MUST be alive so sun has a motivation to go back to the island and dan must pick jin up in the raft he on because jin was practically right beside the water when the freighter exploded so he couldve easily jumped in as for the red shirts topic wow how many is there theres always one that gets on the raft season 1 was michael he had the famous red shirt season2 well desmond i think when he was in the elizabeth and season 3 well theres been plenty in season 3 and season 4 has always had one getting into the zodiac raft dan has always one but keep up the topics don try make one were you just go in and enter theories about anything to do with lost so could be jacob dharma widmore the island anything so the topics are more interesting and get viewed more i mean look at this 2 people and 4 in your last one

cragebo:
It is very hard to read your post without any punctuation.

I loved reading your article, funny! Anyway, the way I interpreted it was:
Everyone who went with Locke died in the explosion in the barracks (except the main characters)
Everyone who was brought to the freighter by Farday before his last trip died in the explosion (except our main characters on the helicopter)
So the only nameless characters left are on the boat with Faraday or chilling back on the beach with Juliet (although it seemed only her and Sawyer were left)
