Your Voice: The Island Moves. WAIT WHAT?
Submitted by Dan Berry
Halliwax’s Orchid video is the most important clue to determining where the island is going.
Halliwax mentions that the rabbit will be sent into the future a short time and it will look as if it has disappeared. The Comic-Con Orchid station video where there are two bunnies is a blooper reel, because they shot this orientation vid twice. In the Comic-Con one the rabbit is sent into the past, which is why everyone in the room freaks out. A paradox would occur if they met. Once the island disappears, it’s not that they have physically moved it, the island simply doesn’t exist in that realm.
My guess is that in Oct. 2005, the island would reappear in the ocean, just as Ben appeared in Tunisia. Which means that the events happening on the island and the flash forwards would be parallel. This would explain why the writers said there would be no need for flashes soon.
Tada!
My question is: Why in the world is there a pocket of negative energy deep below the surface of this island? We’ve all read the concept on how negative energy is necessary to stabilize wormholes. How did the ancient civilizations figure out this negative pocket’s location and build a wheel inside it, along with stones covered in runes?

Awesome ideas, but I was under the impression that the flash forwards were happening several years later. Is that not correct, and they are actually happening around October 2005? (I thought they were more in parallel with our own present, 2008).
I also didn’t know the writers said there would be no need for flashes soon, so if that’s the case, then your idea makes perfect sense.

I think this theory is bang on.
They’ve already set the stage for everything that happens in season 5 will be set in 2008.
- It’s already been established that 3 years have gone by since the crash. Sun is a key figure with Paik Ind and her daughter is talking.
- Aaron is about 3 years old now.
- Sayid is fully entrenched with his role as Ben’s assassin.
Everyone on the island and in the surrounding “shockwave” of it’s “disappearance” (The zodiac and probably Jin) have been moved three years forward.
What a great show!

Stargate anyone? That wheel was not made by humans. Remember when Ben said in Season 2 to Locke when he was captured? He said “not even God can see this island”.

I think a space ship crashed on the island a long, long time ago and buried deep beneath the island. Thats why alot of the stations are so deep underground. Ancient people found it and this whole time travel, cashmere effect thing is someithing to do with the ship. Didnt you see how Ben when even deeper down, and there was a pilar with the hieroglyphics on it. The some how fastned that wheel a long time ago. That room was very cold, like some kind of cooling system for some type of engine, when activated it creates this sort of time travel effect. I think that Jacob and the smoke monster are something to do with with the alien ship as well. Really think about this theroy it makes sense.

Interesting Finale. FYI…it really bothered me that they kept calling (Locke)him Jeremy Benthan. I am a History nerd and I recognized the name immediately. Jeremy Bentham was a philosopher in the 1700, who (when he died) had his body preserved to sit at the head table of the London College permanently. His head, which was decomposing, was replaced with a wax head!!! So maybe, Locke was not really Locke, but a wax replica. Read up on him. Makes an interesting possibility!

That makes sense, and I was thinking about the way they used the rabbit in that crazy little closet. I think they just harnessed the power of the island to use it in small, controllable doses for experiments. But when Ben turned the wheel, it opened the lid on the crazy forces of the island forcing the whole thing into another time.
But why did it drop Ben off in Tunisia? Why didn’t he go with it? Thats odd to me.

Michael freezing the bomb to essentially stop time…..Ben turning the clock in the “deep” freeze to stop time?
Comment by Sean — May 30, 2008 @ 7:53 am
wait Margaret. if they had to replace his head at the table where its needed so to say wouldnt that mean that theres a wax Locke on the island? idk…this is confusing
what happened to Daniel and co. in the raft?!?!!?!?!?!? they gotta be out there like wtf?
Comment by Dean — May 30, 2008 @ 8:06 am
Ben put the metal objects in the Orchid chamber to break the machine and blow a hole in the wall. Where ben went was UNDER the Orchid — not the Orchid itself. Thus the Orchid video really has no direct relevance to what Ben was doing underneath it… or maybe not.

if everyone has to go back to the island, wouldn’t Desmond have to go as well? Just a thought.
Comment by Tiffany — May 30, 2008 @ 8:28 am
The Dharma Iniative was harnessing that great power that was beneath the Orchid for their silly experiments. Only a select few knew about the power beneath that could move the island. By the way, Locke never did what he boasted about. Ben was the one that moved the island. It was also shown that the island had never moved from the time Dharma built the egg shaped room to present day.
Everyone needs to watch the movie Contact.

Desmond wouldn’t have to go back because he wasn’t part of 815.
If he did have to go back then they would need Lapidus, Michael, Farraday and Jin as well. We could assume that Jin and Michael and Farraday made it back to the island thus Ben isn’t telling Jack he has to get those two to return. All in all a plausible theory. It would make for an interesting mid-season turn when Jack has gotten the original 6 to return and everyone thinks they can go back, but the plot twist comes out that he also has to get Jin and Michael who might have been rescued by a passing freighter. If Sun blames Jack for Jin’s death she may never agree to go back, but if Jin pops up at her door step alive at the end of the season…maybe she will forgive Jack and go back. If Ben was holding Penny hostage and made a deal with Desmond to spare her if Desmond went back, that would set up some interesting television.
Really too early to speculate on anything though. Season 5 will be a new ball game.

“Michael freezing the bomb to essentially stop time…..Ben turning the clock in the “deep” freeze to stop time?”
Exactly what I was thinking, Sean. Lost sometimes hides stuff in plain sight and I think this could be one example. Perhaps the “cold place” is keeping some sort of reaction with the “negative matter” in cheque. Turning the wheel could be an ancient method of generating friction and heat to allow the reaction to proceed. Maybe a stretch but I thought it was worth mentioning.
In a semi-related development, I was beginning to think the four-toed statue was a red herring, but now I’m not so sure. It certainly appears some type of ancient civilization knew of or inhabited the island.

We lost our local ABC station from 9:21 to 9:43pm so I missed the island moving, creepy Claire, what else?!?!?!
Now I have to watch it online. Somebody feel sorry for me
Comment by BummedOut — May 30, 2008 @ 9:39 am
Yikes Bummed that sucks! My local station kept breaking in during the commercials to talk about tornadoes and thunderstorms warnings. He started and stopped almost every break-in with “Don’t worry you’re not missing any Lost.” LOL I told my husband that if they broke in or we lost power I was going to get up at 4am to watch the show online before work.

Jeremy Bentham was also know for his design of the “Panopticon” - a prison building where the jailers could watch the prisoners at all times without letting them know they are being watched. Wikipedia says he called it “a new mode of obtaining power of mind over mind, in a quantity hitherto without example”. Do you think this is of any relevance?
Comment by AJ — May 30, 2008 @ 10:15 am
I did catch the fake comercial for the http://www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com/ coming to San Diego CA in July. The octogon symbol seems to be the Dharma symbol on its side. The jobs they are recruiting are all jobs thatthe Dharma people did on the island. Also note that if you search Dharma or Oceanic on the http://www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com/ website, you can follow a link that says Oceanic Airlines is now Hanso Air.
Is this the beginning of a 2008 Lost Experience?
Comment by stingerdawg — May 30, 2008 @ 10:29 am
Oh, I just went back to the Octagon website and it has already changed from the format it used last night after the hsow ended. You can submit your e-mail address for Octagon to be consdiered for the next Dharma Initiative.

Do you think Ben turning the wheel from right to left is related to the moving the hands on a clock forward in time?
Comment by dragonfly — May 30, 2008 @ 11:00 am
Desmond dosent have to go back. And if you listen carefully yesterday…they where getting permisson to leave the island. Remember when Ben said you can go…and the Jacks father appeared on the boat and said Michael you can go now. I am starting to believe that you need to get permisson to leave the isalnd…its like they are release from obligations of the island.
Comment by Joey — May 30, 2008 @ 11:24 am
i think that when christian said you can go now michael he meant you can die now, because up until that point the island would not let michael die n then boom.
Comment by ledio — May 30, 2008 @ 11:53 am
If I am not mistaken. Didn’t the others only give permission for Kate and Sayid to leave? That would mean Jack, Sun, Aaron and Hurley weren’t supposed to leave. Perhaps as punishment they are forced to bring them back.
Comment by blutoschmooto — May 30, 2008 @ 12:07 pm
Yes…Ben told Jack and the rest that they could leave the island. He said take the chopper its yours…you can go now.
Comment by joey — May 30, 2008 @ 12:50 pm
they might have had permission from ben, but only micheal had permission from Jacob. Christian was acting as Jacobs mouth, but ben no longer was able to hear Jacob. Locke had taken over that job. So jack kate etc. would have needed Locke or Christians permission to leave. That’s why they need to take him back. Just like the island brought Christian back to life, it will bring Locke back to life as well.
Comment by juan — May 30, 2008 @ 10:42 pm
I think that the island did not actually “move” but rather just jumped ahead in time just like the bunny, how long well who knows. So now the island just appears to be gone, for now. Remember when Daniel was talkin to charlotte, and she said “nothins forever”, well there ya go, maybe she is referring to the island not being gone forever.
– On another thought, i think moving the island in time is exactly how the black rock got on the island in the past?!
Comment by Aaron — May 31, 2008 @ 10:03 am
u guys are probably right: the island probably moved forward in time.
however, think about all the other stuff that we’ve seen before: a polar bear on the island and dharma’s logo in the desert. i can understand the island moving Ben in a future state (when he is elsewhere) but the polar bear arriving on the island doesnt make sense.
these things suggest that there isn’t just a time-travelling function but also a space-travelling function (perhaps managed by another station elsewhere).
so that place beneath orchid is responsible for just time travel or both?
also, imo the hieroglyphs suggest an atlantis-like ancient civilization instead of an alien spacecraft. of course, that civilization could have something to do with alien visitors (like stargate), but the entire thing was made of stone and resembled a temple/building kind of thing.
so here are the factors supporting the alien theory:
1.the statue with four toes.
2.the arcane reaction that moved the island.
3.the orchid video suggested that exotic matter was involved.
4. hieroglyphs are not from any known culture.
and the factors supporting the ancient superior human civilization theory:
1. the stonework reminds us of other ancient megalithic monuments. (egypt, olmecs etc)
2. that frozen turning wheel and the corridors seemed to be made for use by a human sized being.
3. hieroglyphs are not from any known culture:P
anyway, it was a cool ending and all of season4 was much better than season3.
cheers

Hey anyone remember when Ben “summoned” the smoke monster to bean on Keamys men? Yeah
I know it was friggin awesome but he went into a room that looked similar to the one with the wheel, just not frozen. Im thinking that there is more than one of these room things that each does their own thing. Maybe there is one where Swan station used to be and there is one by all of the Dharma stations.
Comment by Nikita — June 1, 2008 @ 5:53 pm
I’m thinking more and more that the island is an alien ship in disguise. The aliens can come and go as they please and live for a very long time, i.e. Richard Alpert.
Christian Shepard is an alien as well, who decided to leave the island, which would make Jack and Claire part alien, hence their connection to the island/ship. Locke is probably a hybrid as well and was fathered by Jacob.
One of the big revelations in the next season will be that Richard Alpert and some of the Others only have 4 toes.
I’m joking a little about the toe thing, but it would be cool to see.
