What Do You Want from the ‘Lost’ Season Finale?

Lost News — May 29, 2008 at 5:33 am by Matt

The day is finally here.  Though nothing excites me more than a Lost season finale, this also feels like a day of mourning.  After tonight’s two hour extravaganza we’ll have to wait until 2009 to see more of the best show on television.  That sounds absolutely torturous, but I’m sure the remainder of "There’s No Place Like Home" will leave us with plenty to talk about.

As we prepare ourselves for any and all possibilities tonight, I have a question for all of you.  What do you want and/or expect from tonight’s episode?  Do you want a giant jaw dropper on par with the flash forward reveal, or will you be content with smaller revelations?  Do you hope to discover more about the fates of Sawyer, Jin and Claire?  Do you want to be left with a giant cliffhanger, or do you hope the show wraps most things up?

Me? I mainly want one thing from Lost, and that’s to have my mind blown.  It’s a tough request to make of most television shows, but I really don’t think Lost will have a problem obliterating my brain.  I’m not expecting a twist equal to the flash forwards, because I can’t possibly conceive of anything that could shake up the show so drastically.  I expect the finale to amaze me with its plot twists and character moments, not its story structure.

There are other questions that I’d love to have answered.  I’d like to know what’s up with Claire, but I’m not expecting that answer until next season.  One thing I am expecting is some sort of reveal regarding the fates of Jin and Sawyer.  Are they still alive in the future?  One of my only disappointments this season is that there hasn’t been a Sawyer-centric episode.  I hope we see a lot of him in the finale.

I want to know what the Orchid station does, and how one manages to move an island.  Will it move physically, or simply move through time?  I’d love to know more about Richard Alpert, but I’m not holding my breath for that one.  I want to know how and why the Oceanic 6 came up with their lie.  Of course I want to know who is in the coffin, but that goes without saying.

There are many things that I want from the Lost season finale, but the only thing I really expect is damn good storytelling.  I have no doubt the finale will deliver on that.  As for my other questions, I’ll just have to wait a few hours and see what happens.
