Your Voice: Moving the Island and the Oceanic Conspiracy
Here are two short, well thought out theories about events that should be cleared up in tomorrow night’s season finale:
Submitted by Dan Berry
A lot of people have speculated on whether the island will actually physically move on the Earth via Vile Vortices, but I am kind of leaning toward the island moving through time/space. What if when the island leaps, it lands in Dharma times, in the 1970s. Locke becomes the leader of the others/hostiles and orders the purge. This would explain how Ben wasn’t always the leader and why they have avoided saying who did for so long.

I was watching the beginning of Part 1 of ‘There’s no Place Like Home’ last night and I think I know why they are lying.
It makes perfect sense. There is no island. Locke moved it. So how are they supposed to explain where they were? They needed to come up with an elaborate story to explain where they have been without people thinking they are crazy.
Also, they have to say that everyone died except 8, because how would they explain where all those people are? I don’t know why they threw the extra 2 in there. They could’ve just as easily said there were 6 of them.
So here is the question: Does Oceanic Air know what’s going on? That could explain a lot. If they do know, then it is Oceanic that contrived the entire story. If they don’t know, then Jack and Crew, including our boy Lipidus, came up with the story.
What do you think?

Have your theories posted on The Tail Section!
"Your Voice" is a new TTS series in which Tail Section fans submit their articles, theories or reviews to be published on The Tail Section for all their fellow fans to read. Have you spent far too much time pondering the origins of the DHARMA Initiative? Have you alienated your co-workers by rambling about Daniel Faraday’s wacky time anomaly experiment? If so, we want to hear from you. Send your own Lost theories, reviews, or general thoughts to Editor(at)TheTailSection.com. Please keep all submissions between 300 and 1,000 words. We will read through all submissions and contact you if we publish your entry. You will also receive byline credit on our site.

****Possible Spoiler if you don’t watch the pre-episode promo*****
Wouldn’t Lapidus have to die? It looked like the Oceanic 6 were all on board his helicopter when Jack yells “Do not go back to the island.” He wasn’t on the Coast Guard flight where did he go? It seems like ferrying survivors back would provide him with his want/goal for the show and avenging the cover up thus making him expendable from a writing stand-point. I doubt Oceanic knows about the cover up, the only reason for them to know would be if Paik, Widmore, or other rich previously introduced character owns the airline.
Also, we can speculate till we are blue in the face on why they are lying, hopefully we’ll find out tonight. I have to disagree about them lying due to island movement. They may be lying due to a buy out, a pact with Ben that 6 could leave, but the others must remain in secret or the most obvious choice, not wanting to explain how you landed on an island with a bunch of people who ran around stealing children trying to kill you and in turn you killed a bunch of their people.

oceanic must know about the cover up because at the news conference they had a presentation with doctored photo’s of the 6 getting found by fishermen.
i think richard alpert was the leader before ben and he/jacob chose ben after they found out he could see dead people (his mum), just like locke (boone etc). ben and locke are kindred spirits.

I like how people are assuming that that rescue on the beach was doctored. Who’s to say that the helicopter didn’t go down and that they did take a raft to that beach? Or maybe Lapidus dropped them off with the raft so he wasn’t involved. Who knows, but doctored beach photo? Doubtful.

Perhaps the island moves DOWN? Like the LOST city of Atlantis. A few of my potential reasonings:
1) Sealed hatches?
2) A submarine for transport?
3) The dolphin experiment tank Jack was held captive in?
4) Touches on the religious-Noah’s Ark-flooding connection?
5) You would need precise coordinates for an island that’s under water, yes?
6) Would also explain the Black Rock being in the middle of the island.
7) Perhaps a nifty magic bubble is created with the electromagnetism for the whole island?
I don’t know. I just need the next 30 hours to pass quickly. I feel like I’m on island time.

Oceanic Air knows what’s going on. Their symbol is of the Vile Vortices, so that’d have to come from somewhere.

Well, all of those theories sounds really plausible and cool. I for one am just too excited about tomorrow night to know what to think! I made the mistake of reading a spoiler for the end of Season 3. Never again. I’m going into it with no expectations and I’m looking to have an awesome time watching it!
Is anyone else planning on having a party for the end of the season? Me and my buds are getting together for the finale. We’re having some Dharma food and island type stuff. Are we the only nerds?

Has anyone seen that movie ‘The Prestige’. Where the magician does the transporting man trick but uses a real teleportation machine. It would teleport him but create a copy. So in the act, he’d lock himself in a water tank and really drown. Only to have his copy reappear in the balcony.
I think that’s what’s going to happen to the people on the island. They’ll have clones created and if they meet up then they’ll both die.
OK It’s got holes but so did every great theory. Oh and speaking of holes… That jackson brown is sure an AAAA Hole… PEACE

The point about moving through “Time and Space” is that you can also move through space. That is, you don’t need actual propulsion if you can manipulate spacetime.
And electromagnetism wouldn’t be able to create a bubble. Strong electromagnetic fields don’t mean much to an ocean. Although it has been shown that extremely strong magnetic fields can produce a force to oppose gravity. This is because of diamagnetism - each atom in the object becomes a little magnet opposed to the strong field imposed on it. The repulsion cancels gravity (in the same way those magnetic levitation toys work), and you can suspend things in mid-air. It’s possible to do that with a large amount of water, but you’d need an exceptionally strong magnetic field (enough to kill anybody with a pacemaker instantly), and some sort of large apparatus around the island to direct the field.

I think the island will move up and float away somewhere. Where? Maybe the arctic.
This was hinted at on the cover of the comic book that was part of young Locke’s “test”.
Thoughts?
