The Last Official ‘Lost’ Podcast of Season 4
It’s going to be a long, lonely summer without the official Lost podcast. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse released the final podcast of season 4 today, and they’ll now be under radio silence until they appear at San Diego Comic-Con in July. That means that no matter how crazy May 29th’s season finale is, we’ll have to talk about it amongst ourselves for a couple months.
Here are some of the highlights from the podcast. Some of these things could be considered slight SPOILERS, so read on at your own risk:
– ABC will re-air "There’s No Place Like Home, Part 1" at 8pm on May 29. The episode will contain an extended press conference sequence with a few more questions directed toward the Oceanic 6.
– Someone wrote in about the possibility of various vortices being spread around the globe, allowing for teleportation to and from the island. Cuse said this is a very interesting idea, implying that it may have a connection to the show.
– Damon and Carlton confirmed that Jack couldn’t kill himself in the third season finale due to the power of the island. This is also why Ben and Widmore can’t hurt each other.

Where was it said that Ben and Widmore cannot kill each other? I missed this part. If it is referring to the scene where Ben was in Widmore’s room, then this can’t be taken at face value and must be stated as “Presumably, Ben and Widmore can’t kill each other.” The first thing Widmore asks is if Ben is there to kill him. This didn’t seem like a moment of humor from Widmore. Ben replies “You know I can’t kill you.” This doesn’t imply that the power of the island prevents Ben and Widmore from hurting each other, it implies that Ben and Widmore need each other ofr their ultimate purposes. Widmore could kill Ben, but he needs Ben’s knowledge about the island. If he kills Ben, the island and its secrets are Lost. If Ben kills Widmore then he loses something he needs, we don’t know yet what that is. Perhaps killing each other is prohibited in the rules of the game that Ben refers to, but by no means do we know that Ben and Widmore cannot be killed. Since when have people accepted literal translations on this show as fact before? Perhaps those people still believe Ben is Henry Gale.
If Ben were invincible, how would he have been shot, developed life threatening cancer, etc? Ben is out of favor with the island, he is no longer invincible. Why should we assume Widmore is in the islands favor, it has done nothing to help him return? If Widmore isn’t in the islands favor, he wouldn’t be invincible barring finding the fountain of eternal life/youth.

Not being able to die (like Michael and Jack) doesn’t have to mean that person is in the island’s favor. I might just mean the island needs them for something.

Blutoschmooto asked: “Where was it said that Ben and Widmore cannot kill each other? I missed this part.”
It was in the podcast that this thread is about.
