Your Voice: The Far Reach of the Island (Humor)

Lost Theories — May 17, 2008 at 6:41 am by admin

While we have been captivated by the last (almost) four seasons of Lost, it’s become very evident that the Island controls a lot more than just things on the island itself.  Michael being unable to kill himself, Jack being unable to jump off the bridge, and Keamy being unable to kill Michael.  Match that up with Ben’s admission that he could not kill Widmore (and vice versa) this brings into question, just how much is the Island controlling?  And how?

I suggest that the Island is not only affecting the stage that the players occupy (both on and off the island), however it is affecting the REAL world that we all occupy.  Absurd, you say?  Not as crazy as you may think, I say.

Let’s review a few situations, shall we?

Nestor Carbonell
—————-

He’s become a very big part of this Lost Universe.  We’ve just discovered in "Cabin Fever", that Alpert has followed John Locke throughout his entire life, even BEFORE he was born.  With the belief that John could be a very important person in the Island’s future, Alpert has attempted to recruit John at least twice.

However, the entire universe that Lost occupies was placed into danger by Alpert’s participation in the CBS show Cane.  Jimmy Smits had already attempted to bring down one ABC hit show — NYPD Blue — by leaving the show, and now he attempted to sabotage another hit ABC drama by recruiting one of the most important people possible: Richard Alpert.  Well, the Island has stepped up and prevented Smits from carrying out his bizarre beef with with the Alphabet network by siccing the Smoke Monster on CBS’ show, and soon enough, Cane was cancelled, and Richard Alpert was back where he belonged: On the island, helping to shape things behind the scenes, in ways we are not even aware of yet.

Without Alpert, the entire universe might collapse, and the Island would not allow that to happen.

Team Darlton’s despising of DUI’s
———————————

The Island has always allowed leeway in the way that Carlton and Damon has gone about things.  As lifelong members of the ultra-secret society (shhhhh!) "IUDAD" also known as Dyslexics against Driving Under the Influence, they reacted swiftly and with furious vengeance upon the news that Cynthia Watros (Libby) and Michelle Rodriguez (Ana Lucia) were charged with Driving under the Influence, and they were viciously killed off by Michael (a pawn in the Darlton game).  These two were not major players in the outcome of Lost, and so were expendable.  To show that they were not totally without feeling, they allow Libby to return, but only for 23 to 42 seconds at a time.

However, when Daniel Dae Kim was arrested for driving under the influence, the Island stepped in to prevent Darlton from savagely killing off Jin in a strange attack of the rare European swallows descending onto the island and picking him apart.

Much like Michael’s gun (and later Keamy’s) malfunctioning, Their typewriters suddenly stopped working.  They’re computers wouldn’t load up Word Perfect (or even Notepad) and their pens suddenly were unable to write.  After some heated discussions between Darlton and the Island, they relented, and allowed Jin to remain alive.  For now.  Much like as Taller Walt told Locke, Jin has "work to do".

These are just two of the many ways that the Island has influenced real life events to shape it’s destiny.  I won’t reveal them all to you, so you’ll have to wait for Lostfan108 to spoil it for you.  But if you look around, I think you’ll realize that Lost is affecting everything around you.

You just don’t realize it.  That may be because you just aren’t as tuned in to the Island as perhaps you had hoped.  Your communion is not strong enough.
