‘Lost’ Season 4 DVD Details
Some shows, such as Friday Night Lights, manage to get DVD sets out just a couple of months after a season wraps up. Other shows, such as Lost and Battlestar Galactica, seem to take eons to release their DVDs. However, the Lost sets are always well worth the wait thanks to the excellent extras and beautiful packaging on display. There’s a lot of care put into these sets, though I still wish they would come to stores a bit more quickly.
Lost season 3 wrapped up last May and the DVDs hit stores in December. Now it’s been announced that Lost season 4 will follow a similar release schedule, as the season is set to be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on December 9. Like the other Lost sets, this is being billed as the "expanded experience," and also features the following bonus features:
- Lost Bloopers
- Audio Commentaries
- Deleted Scenes
- Lost on Location - Go on location with the cast and crew of Lost for a behind-the-scenes look at the making of some of Season Four’s hottest episodes.
- Freighter Folk (working title) - Where did the folks on the freighter come from? Get to know them and find out what the show runners looked for in new cast members.
- Transforming Hawaii (working title) - From the deserted beach to urban Los Angeles, Hawaii serves as a global backdrop for the excitement and intrigue of Lost. Join the small army of technicians that transforms Hawaii to the Island as they go about their duties.
- Gun Tracking (working title) - Lost features a formidable array of firearms Get real life gun profiles and find out what it’s like working with so much firepower.
- The Music of Lost (working title) - The Honolulu Symphony performs Michael Giacchino’s award-winning score live for the first time ever. Witness the power of the show’s many musical themes as well as its innovative use of instruments-and learn how music affects the production, from writing to directing.
As always, the episodes will be in widescreen and 5.1 surround sound. The retail price is about $50 for the DVD set, and an insane $96 for the Blu-Ray. Check out the box art below:

I think the reason Lost delays is that they know there is demand for the product and they time it for the Holiday shopping season. Weaker shows need to get DVDs out ASAP to help build fan interest for the next season IMO.

Sounds great but I was kind of hoping for the inclusion of the “missing pieces” snippets. Especially given the shortened season. Darn.

looks cool, is that buildings in the reflection of the water? as in the oceanic 6 getting off the island?

The image with the buildings in the water has been around for a few months. Most studios time the previous year’s DVD release just before the new season airs. That said, not including the mobisodes is F’in UNACCEPTABLE !! As many of us as possible should bitch about this, especially since we’ll be paying the same (as we have for previous seasons) for a season with LESS episodes. Let TPTB know we are dissatisfied.

It kind of sucks because they already used Blue for the Season 1 DVD. Are they just going to make Season 5 Orange and 6 Green? I suggest darker colors like gray or possibly black. Oh well, I won’t care

^ Season 1 was grey….

I like that it comes out right before the new season. We don’t have a TV and - because we can’t get streaming where we are - watch via iTunes, but we STILL buy the (fraktabulous) DVD set, timing the last episode right before the season premiere.
My only complaint (other than those mentioned above) is… why isn’t Michael on the cover? He’s no mystery anymore and he deserves to be back there (of course, Russeau has always deserved to be there, but has been denied). Surreal not to see Charlie there.

WHAT DOES ”TPTB” MEAN ???????????/

Lets start a petition to get the mobisodes added… who can we write to?

The reason it takes so long is that Lost is not broadcasted simultaneously in the US & all over the world…In Germany the next season starts in fucking August!!! So in order to max out the traditional benefits resp. mula generated thru ratings and ads, I guess, they wait till most countries have the show…People, Lost is also huge outside the US….

i strongly suggest to put the Lost:Missing Pieces in the dvds. also it would be cool if we could optionally view the episodes on dvd with a special enhanced version, like we see online. i just want my money’s worth, you know what i mean?

what’s a mobisode? I don’t think that it will really end up costing as much because it is a shortened season. I only paid $36 for season 4 at Target the day it came out…so I’m not expecting more than that…at least I hope not!
and what are the missing pieces episodes?
PS: TPTB stands for The Powers That Be.
