Is the Four-Toed Statue Too Weird?

Lost News — March 20, 2008 at 6:58 am by admin

When seasons pass without a particular mystery being explained on Lost, I start to get worried. For a while there I began to wonder if we’d ever find out why Christian Shephard wasn’t in his coffin way back in season 1, but now that he’s reemerged in the mobisodes and in Jacob’s cabin, I have hope the issue will be addressed.

Another mystery that has come and gone is the four-toed statue.  Will we ever find out what the heck was up with that?  Damon Lindelof recently showed up at the Paley Festival to moderate a panel for Chuck (a show that sounds good on paper, but somehow fails in execution), and he had this to say:

"We did the four-toed statue on the show and basically we got a note back from the network, which was, ‘This is too weird.’  We’re like, ‘Do you watch the show?  This is too weird?’  And essentially they said, ‘Could it be a six-toed statue?’  If someone could explain why a six-toed statue is less weird than a four-toed statue, that’s exactly what we will do."

It’s hard to know if Lindelof is joking or not, but I’d imagine that something on Lost would eventually cause ABC to write a "too weird" note.  However, even if the network doesn’t like it, I’m sure the four-toed statue will be addressed again someday.
