First Look at Episode 4.7 “Ji Yeon”
Last week’s episode of Lost answered a couple of intriguing mysteries for us. We found out that Charles Widmore is the man who sent the freighter, and we also discovered the lengths that Ben is willing to go to when he has a crush on a girl. Tomorrow night’s installment, "Ji Yeon," promises to reveal the last of the Oceanic Six while also telling us who Ben’s man on the boat is. I know everyone thinks it’s Michael, but I’m personally voting for Walt. Michael is just too obvious.
The episode is written by the great duo of Edward Kitsis & Adam Horowitz, and may provide us with our first glimpse of Death Proof star Zoe Bell on the series. ABC’s official description reads, "Juliet is forced to reveal some startling news to Jin when Sun threatens to move to Locke’s camp. Meanwhile, Sayid and Desmond begin to get an idea of the freighter crew’s mission when they meet the ship’s Captain."
To prepare for the penultimate pre-hiatus episode, we have some promo pictures and a few clips from "Ji Yeon."
It looks like Desmond is talking to the man who is most likely the Captain of the freighter:

Here we see that Doctor Ray will be returning:

More chatting with the Captain. It’s interesting that none of the promo pictures focus on Sun and Jin, especially considering that the episode is their story.

Here are a few clips from the episode:

What did the note say in the second clip? All I could make out was “THE”.

The note reads something like “beware of the captain”

“Don’t trust the captain”

anyone ever stop to think that maybe the “man” on the boat is actually desmond all along. that he has been told by ben that if he keeps them from the island, he could be with penny upon returning to the mainland. kinda like he did with jack before locke blew up the sub. and as far as michael, yeah he can be on the boat but to rescue the survivors of O-815. He did say he would send help. Widmore finding michael and walt at sea while searching for the island. making a deal of returning walt to the mainland in return to showing them the island. but hoping jack and them will have enough to take over the boat for rescue.. kinda far fetched but thats my theory. its michael’s redemption story.
Comment by MIKEO — March 12, 2008 @ 2:13 pm
Knowing that Charles Whitmore knows about the island and were suppose to trust Ben in the fact that Charles is “the bad guy,” can we trust Penny at all?
Comment by Dale — March 12, 2008 @ 2:42 pm
MIKEO, the michael redemption story has been confirmed by Damon and Carlton. I like some points to your theory like Widmore finding michael at sea and making the deal to send walt back if he takes him to the island. very good. I dont like Des being Bens man. Who slipped the note through the door then? only that part of your theory is farfetched.

Is Jin the guy in the coffin?
Do women on the island really die from childbirth or does Ben kill them for some reason? Perhaps if a baby was born on the island it would be first in line to succeed Jacob as the island’s leader. Ben was not born on the island, but wants to be the heir. If he ensures that all the island born babies die, no one will be able to usurp his role.

Bluto, I don’t think Jack would refer so coldly to Jin, i.e., as not a friend, do you?
Why do we trust Ben that Widmore is a) a “bad” guy, or b) the man responsible for the freighter?
Could Sayid be Ben’s “man on the boat?”
Comment by Erin — March 12, 2008 @ 6:10 pm
sayid can’t be ben’s man on the boat because ben announced that he had a man on the boat when they first captured charlotte which was before he ever even talked to sayid
Comment by brad — March 12, 2008 @ 7:40 pm
another flashback about his couple, is this like the 6th one, but yet not one about rousseau who has been on the island for 16 damn years, enough of this korean couples lame storyline -it’s not that interesting. show flashback of henry gale or again rousseau before this tired old couple’s lame life.

mts…They are having another episode about Sun and Jin because oner or both of them will fill in the remainder of oceanic 6. As for Jin being in the coffin bluto, i don’t think so. i think it’s Ben, he is finally killed by one of the Economist’s hitmen (or women). it’s been confirmed that this season’s flash fowards take place before the season 3 finale flash foward.

Remember that Jack went to the funeral home and said he was neither friend nor family. That would only leave foe right? Jack’s last hope of getting back to the island dies with Ben. So follows his depression and attempted suicide.

I thought it was pretty clear that Michael is Ben’s man on the boat all along, right? Why else would he be on this boat - he must be very desperate to get back to the island, and Ben must have convinced him to come back somehow. Moreover, Desmond or anyone else who was on the island while the boat was approaching couldn’t have provided Ben with any information about who was on the boat or when it was comming. Ben’s man on the boat must’ve been there all along, unless some time travel thing is happening.
Comment by Joop20 — March 13, 2008 @ 5:53 am
I assumed that Michael was the man on the boat. He is definately back this season and would tie in with the story. Remember, Ben and Michael had a deal when he and Walt left on the smaller boat.
Remember Ben provided co-ordinates for Michael and Walt to sail on, directly to the freighters course perhaps?
Comment by Happy_Gilmore — March 13, 2008 @ 6:19 am
Doc Jensen’s tease on EW this week has Team Darlton pretty much confirming the predominant opinion concerning the “man on the boat.” I recommend checking it out. It’s not unlike Darlton to mess with our heads, but the way they talk about it leads me to believe they aren’t.
Makes you wonder what their reaction was when they saw ABC’s promos for this week, since ABC made a point of saying what a big surprise it will be.

Sun’s father has to play a bigger role in the entire Lost saga. He is the asian Widmore.
Why can’t Jin be the man in the coffin, it has to be someone? Everyone thinks it is Ben in there. Did the writers really give us this one? The show is based on surprises and twists, I can’t see Ben being in the coffin because it wouldn’t be a surprise to people. At the point this show starts giving answers months in advance, it starts to lose its mystery and most likely its viewers. That being said, if the man on the boat tonight is Michael, I’ll stand corrected since Michael would be the easy non-surprising choice we have guessed at for the past month and a half plus.
Will Sun leave the island? If she does then Juliet has failed in her 3 years of research on the island. Pretty big waste. I’d like to see her get redemption in saving Sun the way she helped her sister.

Hi all,
After watching DOC and thinking about Sun and Jin in prep for tonight’s epi, I am wondering something –
A month or so back, under the “pregnancy theory” thread I think, I posted that I thought it was strange that Ben and Juliet didn’t just experiment with taking couples off the island to conceive and then bringing them back. Or, I posted, why not recruit already pregnant women to the island and see if they carry to term? I assumed they did not do these types of experiments because there was a problem getting people on and off the island, or a problem about keeping the island secret, etc. But I still thought the lack of experimentation as far as conception was silly.
Now, I just re-watched The Other Woman this morning, and Juliet says something to Ben when they are looking at the samples under the microscope that suddenly struck me as strange — she tells him here that “Only women that have conceived on the island does it happen to which makes me wonder….” and then she gets interrupted by Goodwin and the egg sandwich.
Now, I know she told Ben this before, when they were sitting on that rock after she’d only been on the island for six months and asked to go home. But my question is, how did she actually determine that the deaths only happen at conception? What is she basing that conclusion on? Maybe they HAVE experimented with people who’ve conceived off the island? And if so, are there other side effects that makes that solution disastrous as well? I guess I’m just trying to figure out WHY Ben is so hooked on solving this problem if the solution is as easy as sending couples off the island to conceive and then bringing them back to carry to term. Also, for Juliet to come to this conclusion about conception, she would have had to have done experiments or studies to see if children conceived off island were surviving. Who are those people? Or, is she simply basing it on Alex and Danielle’s case study? That seems a little suspect for Juliet who’s a scientist and would seem to require more than just a case that happened 16 years ago.
Anyway, please help me out here if my logic is incorrect. Thanks.

Imz27:
I seem to remember Juliet asking Ben to take some women off the island to do the experiments that you spoke of. Ben of course freaked and said No way.
Does anyone else remember this?
Comment by Alaine — March 13, 2008 @ 12:09 pm
I’m guessing the reason Ben is so hooked on keeping people on the island and not taking the potentially easy way out and having them conceive off of the island is because of the simple reason that he wants the island isolated. He doesn’t want the outside world involved with this island so even though taking people off the island to conceive might work, what he is really looking to do is solve this problem on the island.

Hi all,
Just getting back to who is in the coffin i think its Sayid. No family no friends there. I reckon he was let off the island initally to protect its secret and eventually gets killed by the people whom he is hired to kill.
I’m probably wrong as i have been loads before!

I don’t mean to be a cynic - but the pregnancy thing doesn’t hold water.
Russo had a baby on the island with Ben. Unless Ben isn’t the dad - but a stepdad.
When in Ben’s “taking over the island” did he get with Russo?

“Russo had a baby on the island with Ben. Unless Ben isn’t the dad - but a stepdad.

Not this….still?
Ben is NOT Alex’s biological father. He stole Alex from Danielle as the Others have stolen many, many other children.
Talk about not paying attention.

Jason,
Such a classy post. I’m suprised the mod’s let that through. You are right I saw the clip also, but maybe Michael is doing the time travel thing and is just visiting!
Comment by mchamma60 — March 13, 2008 @ 2:21 pm
Wow Jason,
I’ll bet more than half the people that read this thread already knew that, but the majority of us had the sense to let it slide as most people don’t like to be completely spoiled. There are sites out there that do the spoiling the right way, and then theres you who just flat out disrespects everybody else to make it look like you know all, congratulations.

I THINK THE MAN IN THE COFFIN WAS LOCKE.
Comment by EVERB543 — March 15, 2008 @ 3:12 pm
Maybe the person in the coffin is Charles Whitmore? Maybe Jack goes to see him to make sure he is really dead. Or perhaps he goes to see the coffin to see what this Whitmore looks like especially after causing them so much trouble.
Just a thought
