First Look at Episode 4.2 “Confirmed Dead”
Now that we’ve dissected "The Beginning of the End" as much as humanly possible, it’s time to look forward to tomorrow night’s new episode of Lost, entitled "Confirmed Dead." The episode will mark the arrival of the mysterious "rescuers" to the island, which will include new characters played by Ken Leung, Jeff Fahey, Rebecca Mader, and Jeremy Davies. Now we have a good look at some pictures from the episode, as well as a glimpse at the promo trailer.
Here we see actor Jeremy Davies as Daniel Faraday. His character is named after physicist Michael Faraday, who is famous for his studies of electromagnetism.
Ken Leung’s character, Miles, arrives on the island, probably flashing a picture of Naomi. This is also our first look at Jeff Fahey’s character, Frank Lapidus. According to Lostpedia, his name is an anagram for "Farads Link Up." The Farad is a unit of electrical capacitance, named after physicist Michael Faraday.
Here’s another look at Lapidus. It looks like he has a leg injury, but how did he get it? He doesn’t have any parachuting gear on, so I’m assuming he didn’t get it from landing on the island. Any theories?
Juliet treats Lapidus’s injuries:
Miles finds Naomi’s body:
Jack, Kate, Faraday, and Miles load Naomi’s body into the helicopter. I wonder how many other castaways they can fit in there.
ABC is also airing a new promo for the episode, which splices in some footage of the 815 flight wreckage that we saw in the Oceanic Golden Pass commercial last week. We also see people dropping on to the island, Sawyer giving Ben a pummeling, and Miles promising to tell the castaways why the rescuers have come to the island.
Check it out, and feel free to speculate below on what you think we can expect when "Confirmed Dead" airs Thursday at 9pm.

I find that last picture to be a little weird. Daniel doesn’t seem to be having any trouble carrying Naomi on his side, yet Jack seems to be struggling, and Kate is helping in a weird way. Hmm.. maybe I’m just reading into this too much, but it seems odd.I think Daniel is going to be my favorite. I find Miles to be a little annoying.

The picture that Miles is showing Jack is actually a picture of Ben at an airport security checkpoint. I don’t have a link to it but several websites have the same shot from a different angle.

Very cool.

“You wanna know why we’re here? I’ll tell you why we’re here”
They’ve over-used that in previews so much it’s gonna be anti-climatic.

Hersheygal,
Looks to me like Kate is handing over the stretcher to Jack. They took the picture just as kate has let go with her left hand and jack has moved in to kate’s spot.
JMO But even analyzing the way in which they carry the stretcher is a little bit much dont you think. To be all, “oooo, thats wierd, I’ll bet something is going on there” is a waste of time. If your getting lost by the way they carry a stretcher I can’t imagine how the rest of the show plays out in your head.

good post, i know some small spoilers but not the full episode summary so im really wondering how they are gonna pull this one off, im kinda expecting a lot of answers but its still LOST so they will find a way to be secretive, do u guys think that the whole oceanic underwater wreckage will be a part of the episode or is that just a little wierd add in, i normally would say its a part of the episode but the fact that it was in the oceanic commercial makes me think otherwise, and also they seem to show footage of a plane falling from the sky so who knows with that. im pumped for the new charatcers jeremy davies is a great actor

Their pursuit of Ben and the anagrams leaves less doubt that they are in fact DHARMA.

re: the leg injury to Lapidus. We saw one “freighter tot” at the very end of episode one. But, looking back at the helo parachute jump over the Losties position, there were at least two, maybe more, jumpers / chutes that deployed. Chances are Lapidus hurt his leg in the jump, much like Naomi punctured her lung jumping into the jungle.

On the anagram FRANK LAPIDUS = FARADS LINK UP (FARAD LINKS-UP) also spins to
FARAD UPLINKS (gets his satellite connection back to the powers that be)

So, the reflection of a city’s skyline in the water at the end of the promo–is that new, or did I just notice it? Incidentally, anyone have any idea which city’s skyline that’s supposed to be?

There is an M Lapidus, a theoretical mathematician doing some mad stuff with fractal numbers/strings …

ByronBunch: It’s not new. It’s LA.

Maybe I’m missing something, but does anyone have any thoughts on why they keep referring to the fact that the flight 815 passengers were all confirmed dead (which would mean, I would assume, that they had found all their bodies), so how do they explain survival and existance of “The Oceanic Six”?
Comment by Namaste108 — February 7, 2008 @ 7:45 am
Its clear that they are looking for BEN. They are probably relatives of old Dharma’s and are have been looking for the island.

Ok, is it me or does that guy ‘Lapidus’ look an awful lot like the first guy in the rocking chair in Jacobs cabin? I’m not sure if that has been discussed at all, so I’m sorry if that’s an old topic.

Dr. Nope,
That makes sense. I just thought it was a ilttle weird. I didn’t say that it was some kind of big mystery or something. lol that would be stupid.

Has anyone been following the game online at find815.com? If the show and the game link together, it shows the Linthrop group(Penny’s father co) which owns the Maxwell group. The Maxwell group is the freighter that finds the island. It also states that they are in the Sunda Trench outside of Indonesia.
Comment by NCcountrycat — February 7, 2008 @ 12:54 pm
I think it’s conceivable that the freighters are in fact DHARMA. I think the real question is how did Naomi know Desmond? I believe that DHARMA knew that Desmond was pushing the button; maybe Kelvin tipped them off somehow. They presented this to Penny, who has money running out of her ears. They probably told her that they couldn’t find the island unless she funded some kind of research to find electromagnetic discharges (like when he turned the key) to show them where the island was. As soon as they found the islands location they ditched Penny and that’s why she didn’t know anything about the boat. What is still a mystery is how Penny knew how to contact The Looking Glass. I think there may be more to her than meets the eye. It seems a bit odd that she is the one who offered Desmond the ride from the monistary; she is the reason he was in the sailboat to begin with and she knows how to contact the island.
