Oceanic Airlines is Back in Business
Those marketing geniuses over at ABC are at it again. An e-mail went out this morning announcing that everyone’s favorite fake airline, Oceanic, will be back in business as of Monday, December 31. It seems that the bad press regarding the disaster of Flight 815 can’t keep them down forever.
The mysterious press release is really regarding a new Lost website, flyoceanicair.com, that will be going live sometime on Monday.
The e-mail that was sent out reads:
OCEANIC AIRLINES ANNOUNCES ITS RETURN TO THE AIRWAYS “TAKING YOU PLACES YOU NEVER IMAGINED”
Flights Begin December 31 To Nine Markets
Oceanic Airlines announced today their return to the airways. Beginning December 31, operations and flights to nine markets will resume, “Taking You Places You Never Imagined.” Destinations include:
Los Angeles, CA
Tustin, CA
Ames, IA
Miami, FL
New York, NY
Portland, OR

“We are very eager to resume flying and apologize for any inconvenience our temporary closure may have caused our loyal customers,” said Michael Orteig, President, Oceanic Airlines. “Oceanic Airlines is proud to be a top tier flight provider and looks forward to providing travelers with many more years of unparalleled service.”

Sorry to ask the obvious question, but until this goes live how can we tell that it’s really an ABC or Disney site??
Very cool if it is though!!:0

Okay, so LA is where the original flight was headed and where Jack and Locke live and Sayid was headed to see Nadia. Jin’s “client” or whatever was in LA. Kate is from Ames, IA and Juliet from Miami. I believe Michael is from New York (I’m remembering the custody scenes with the ex-wife before she moved to Sydney). Ben is from Portland, or at the very least that is where they told Juliet she would be working.Seoul is home to Sun and Jin and Sydney is where Claire is from and our flight originated. What and who is connected to Tustin, CA?
Comment by Michelle — December 28, 2007 @ 3:07 pm
Locke is from Tustin.

KeepingAwake, ABC sent out the press release from their media site, i think its abcmedia.com or abc-media.com. something like that, they did it, so it IS official.

Interesting cities. Some are hometowns of our castaways; of course, LA and Sydney are points B and A, respectively, of Flight 815. Where’s Manchester on that list, by the way?
Anyway, I’m more interested in how the folks (or a singular person) at DarkUFO decoded that nonsense (or so it seems). Anyone know how they did it?

KeepingAwake, well I can’t say for sure it is legit but the prefix is a Disney/ABC prefix. I called and left my name and contact info. I’m excited to see what the reply call will be about. I’ll post here if I get a call back.

Tustin, CA doesn’t really have its own airport. It’s a small place in Orange county and it would just use John Wayne Airport (Orange County / Santa Ana) or LAX (Los Angeles) or even Ontario. Even if it is using John Wayne airport, no airline would advertise that as “Tustin” and Oceanic is a big international airline and John Wayne is too small of an airport for that. They are already using LAX, and if they are only flying out of 12 cities, going to John Wayne as another one is a waste.
If this is just a marketing gag I don’t care that much, but if it’s a slight attempt to be an ARG or something slightly interesting, the inclusion of Tustin as a flight destination pretty much kills any bit of credibility in the storytelling.

yes but the official site was down for several hours and loads very slowly.
I was simply trying to help out other fans who were having problems?
Is that ok with you Jimbo?

I was guessing this would happen. Hearing about the Oceanic 6, the fact that we know they are back in business via the finale AND there was a back page ad for them on the Lost Magazine (It’s actually very cool)…could only mean that they would be back in business and back online. Didn’t Naomi say they found the flight in the ocean? Personally, I always thought Oceanic was part of it anyway. I would not be shocked if we find out that someone we know is in charge of the airline. I’ve been checking out the site (and Hanso’s) every now and then in the past few weeks.

Marty-
I think a lot of folks in the US forget that people outside the US often have trouble with the ABC websites. I’m sure a lot of people appreciate your posting the link.

Oceanic Flights may have been suspended pending investigation of the crash of Oceanic 815.
The Oceanic Press Release dated 12/31/2007 could be used by the producers of the show to indicate that the last episode of Season 3 was taking place after 12/31/2007.
