Lost Spoiler - Lost Filming in the News
Thanks to Tazz for sending the video. Looks like this is from a Hawaiian news broadcast. The rumor of "Kate’s Trial" has been hanging around for a while, and gives a few new ideas worth considering to the question of Kate’s freedom in the flashforward sequences, which i will speculate on after the video:
So it would seem that Kate may not be free at all if she is still facing a trial. Tell me how this works: The mysterious ‘him’ that Kate mentions in "Through the Looking Glass" is a Marshall, or some other law enforcement agent monitoring her while she is in house arrest.
Another idea, Kate being the freedom loving woman that she is, perhaps she will be found guilty and that will prompt her to escape again, which we know she does well, and therefore bring her into Jack’s way out thinking that they need to return to the island. Plausible?

FIRST!

So I was watching the new show…umm…Chuck I think. Anyways, he is having some kind of news flash in his mind bc of this memory implant.
BUT what grabbed me was the following line, heard VERY clearly "Oceanic flight 815 was SHOT DOWN over…" then it fades. Anybody else hear this? Am I just behind everyone else or what here????

I knew it! I knew Kate can’t just go back to LA scot-free! I didn’t think she’d just be pardoned after everything she’s been through (being a crash survivor and all). I first thought, the "him" can’t be just Sawyer, The man in question can be a parole officer, or any other policeman in connection to this trial. It can also be her ex-husband Kevin, who may have moved to California (a long shot but not impossible).

after reading the post on darkufo, I’d have to say this had got to be a flashforward.
1. its in LA (same setting as the last FF), the crime took place in Iowa, this could be an extradition hearing but… c’mon…
2. kate was swarmed by the media when going into the courthouse. while the story before the crash was sensational, it probably wouldn’t garner THAT much press. We know that jack was on tv (allbeit an undisclosed number of times) before the last flashback in reference to a story that made him somewhat of a celeb, certainly kate would get the same attention, even more obviously.
I find it easier to conclude that this is a flashforward, because I can’t think of any reason for it to be a flashback… maybe that’s the idea… to keep us wandering - and then it turns out to be a flashback after all

Definetly Hawaii, Honolulu KGMB channel 9, CBS.

The fact that the courthouse is in L.A. makes me think it has nothing to do with Kate at all, but more with Oceanic v. The castaways.

the scene they shot outside was around kate arriving and being escorted inside as the media swarmed and bystanders were heard yelling "murderer".
doesn’t sound like it’s about kate at all.
kinda screams Walt centric now that I think about it

I tend to think it is a flash forward. Kate would have been recognized by some of the other passengers on 815 had the event occurred in the past.

It shouldn’t be hard for Kate to “get off”. The only witness against her was her mother and she’s dead. They do have the insurance policy Kate bought her mom but Kate didn’t get any money out of the deal. This means the prosecutor would have a really tough time proving her guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. All Kate needs is a half-way decent lawyer and she walks.

Doc, I think you’re right-on.
For three seasons we’ve seen Kate elude capture, hide her escapee status, and avoid getting rescued so that she wouldn’t have to put those darn handcuffs back on.
So now she’s back in the real world in the flash-forwards. And she’s taking responsibility and standing trial. Interesting.
What’s curious is … do people really change? Will Kate run again.
Like Doc said, it certainly would give her character impetus to get back to the island if she were going to face a lifetime of jail.
The more curious thing is this: In the Season Three finale, it was Jack who didn’t seem to enjoy being back in the "real world". Kate looked fabulous and seemed to be resolved about her return. WHY??? She’s a convict!! So the curious thing is …. what is it that happens that makes Kate decide to leave the island and face her future behind bars?

Less than 4 months…

Who says this "him" has to be an adult? He could be Kate’s baby that’s waiting for her.
Comment by Larry — October 9, 2007 @ 12:58 pm
I’m with you Larry, I’ve thought Kate’s “Him” was her child all summer long. Her & Sawyer have knocked boots a few times now and we know what the island does to a sperm count, she’s pregnant for sure! It could be that Kate was allowed to leave because she would have died otherwise. Does this mean that Sun was sent home as well? I imagine Kate/Jack weren’t the only ones let go, and that one of their fellow crash survivors was in that casket. Can’t wait for Febraury.

Has anyone considered that maybe this isn’t actually a flash forward. Desmond does has his moments where he can see into the future. Perhaps this is just a possible outcome if they do happen to leave the island at this point in time. I say this because of the way Jack is portrayed in the season final. Not Jack at all and I really hope this is not the outcome for the survivors because it would be a disapointment for many fans having invested so much in the character of jack for it to end like that.

Let us not forget as well that Kate (and many others) could be held responsible for killing people on the island (the Marshall, Boone, Shannon, Ana, Libby, Pablo and what’s-her-face, etc. etc.) They could all be on trial. If they are discovered on the island, then so are all of those bodies.

This theory of mine might not be very Kate related as everyone elses, but she definately plays a role in it.
I was thinking about who could be in the casket. Well, I believe that it might be Sawyer. Here are a few reasons why I believe this. For one, there is a rumor about Kate being pregnant… Maybe Sawyer knocks her up. Obviously we all know how he can be with his attitude. So it might be possible that she has this baby with him, than once they get off the island he leaves her.
Jack goes to the funeral and is asked by the director “Friend or family?” Jack hesitates and answers “Neither.” Which infact we all know that Jack and Swyer had a love/hate relationship throughout the series. Later in the season 3 finale, he asked Kate why she didn’t go to the funeral, and she said “Why should I?” Well, probably cause Sawyer left her to raise the child alone, come one now, he IS a con man lol so why go to the funeral if you have that much hate for the guy. She also said something in the finale during her conversation with Jack, that she has to get back to “him” … meaning, that she has to get back to her son at home.
I dunno, I’m sure I’m way off, but it’s something to think about a bit, right?

Are you all forgetting something? Kate is not the only murderer on the island. Sawyer had also killed. Maybe LA decided to try him in the United States instead of Australia because he is an American. Then there is always Locke, who killed the young under cover cop.
As to whether or not those clips were flashbacks or forwards, I do not know. They have never shown flash fowards before (except when dealing with Desmond). I do not think that they have ever broken their rules before.

all very impressive guys but I have seen the final episode of Lost it goes on for 6 seasons and i will tell you whow the oceanic 6 are. Jack Kate Hurley John Sawyer and Claire. I can also tell you that the guys atempting to rescue our plane crash survivours are not who they say they are.
Comment by adam roberts — February 5, 2008 @ 12:47 pm
finally someone mentions the oceanic 6. i thought it was just in my head because no one in my family had heard that in the show.
i think it is a pity that only 8 of the 16 episodes for this season have been written. I do know that they were hesitant to put the 8th episode on tv until the strike was over because it is an awful place to stop.
I hate that walt and michael played such a part in the show and then they just kind of leave….no outstanding ending like ana lucia or boone, but like dropped off the set. walt is talked about every so often, but not much. anyone care to share their feelings?
Comment by whitney — February 5, 2008 @ 11:58 pm
adam, i think you might be an idiot…no you are an idiot. we already know that the people coming to the island aren’t who they say they are. it is all over the trailers. i’m not even going to comment on the fact that you have seen the entire series. jackass
