Lost Producers have Final Image in Mind
At a recent press conference to promote the impending release of the Lost Season 3 DVD, Lost producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof discussed the planned end of the series in 2010.
With regards to how the ending fits into the current flow of the series, Lindelof said "We always knew the ending," he said. "We just didn’t know how much time to take before we got there. So, yes, it still completely fits with where we’re at in the storytelling right now."
So. Let’s speculate for a second. How iconic would it be of the franchise for the series to end with an eye closing? May seem banal to some of you, but I think if you focus on the fact that the series will likely have an ending that revolves around the characters rather than the mythology, it’s very possible.

I’m telling you, the series will end with Jack’s eye opening back on the island. He runs through the jungle, only this time there is no shoe hanging in the trees, but there is alcohol in his pockets. He runs to the beach to find the same survivors. The only hint that this isn’t all the same events repeating themselves is the missing shoe.

I think Merlboro Man is on to something, especially considering this is, at least, his second time around this ride.
Namaste…

I think Lost will end almost like the season 1 finale ended. It will have a montage of the survivors finally boarding the boat off the island and being happy, coupled with shots in between of Jack, Kate, and whoever got off in the present time getting back on the island to live there..

Jack’s eye closing at the end. That is absolutely brilliant. Or…..someone closing Jacks eye/eyes at the end. Please don’t ever let it end. I don’t think I can wait 4 more months.

The dream is over, the island is a smoking ruin. The camera pans across the dead scattered across the beach - friends old, new and as yet unseen. Finally it comes to rest on an aged, bearded, mortally wounded Jack in a worn, blood stained Dharma uniform.
The camera zooms slowly into his face whilst he breaths his last, finally tightening on the eye as it flickers closed.
I’m confident that the creators could pull off a downer ending as long as there was a lesson to be learned.

Jack gently places Kate’s lifeless body in a predetermined spot in a cave. He takes a sack with two stones of opposite color and places it careful in her hand to be found later. A few feet away, he finds a place for himself, his energy nearly gone, his life dissipating away. He lays down and we focus on his eye as it closes finally finding the peace he was seeking all along.

did you mean iconic or *ironic*?

Teef! TEEF I say!
Nah, j/k it’s all good.
Jack rests his head on the snoring pink puppy as the grains of sand on the beech of shifting multicoloured sequins. Plaid penguins parade across the sky, glowing silver pinwheels fly out of his eyes and Iron Butterfly pipes across the cholocately hemisphere.
As casuality completely colapses, Jack’s eye flutters closed as the other turns into a sentient shade of blue and lances out into the cosmos.

TabulaRasa… i ACTUALLY got chills when I read your ending. Brilliant work man. Tying in to Adam and Eve would be genius.

Having just wiped out what was left of the survivors, the villainous shape of black smoke slowly lifts its head up & looks at the lone person staring at him - Jack. With a heavy sigh, the doctor awaits his fate. A mighty roar comes from the smoke as it charges toward Jack. From the monster’s point of view, the camera moves quickly and violently towards Jack as all he can do is quietly close his eyes as the screen gets enveloped by darkness.

However the series ends I’m sure it will be brilliant…

I think that season 5 will end with jack’s eye opening and season 6 will end just like season 5 did before jack’s eye opens but with a more positive outcome and then the loop will end

You guys forget one thing; when they created the show, they already had the end invisioned. You may also have forgotten that Jack was supposed to die in the pilots, and Kate be the leader that he is today. With the information given, I fail to see how it’s possible to have an ending centric to Jack

How about the final image being a view of the entire island from above..maybe zooming out until you can see the entire Earth.
Comment by zetaprime — October 5, 2007 @ 4:52 pm
I just hope that they bring to resolution to major secret/origin/purpose of the island. It just feels like there is some kind of explanation to the mystery of the island, and it would be nice if they wrapped it up.
My idea for the ending:
A grizzly Locke (who has been living on the island for years by himself) leads a weary Jack and Kate (who have just returned to the island in search of salvation) to a new area at the absolute CENTER of the island. They come to an opening with a beautiful large fountain in the middle of it.
Locke: It’s the fountain of youth.
Emotional Jack begins to cry as his eye shuts. Fade to black.

i have waited to say this…… here is my theory— one I dont think has been mentioned… It is below
Comment by White Shoe Jack — October 5, 2007 @ 8:59 pm
Ok here we go……….. The whole White Shoe theory mentioned at the beginning of the thread is very close to what my opinion is but with one flaw! I believe the very beginning of SEASON 1, when Jacks eye opens, IS INDEED his SECOND CHANCE! Why do we the viewers all think that the beginning of season 1 was the first chance? just because thats what the producers want us to believe. I believe that the first time that Jack was on the island that he was a TOTAL opposite of the Jack we saw taking care of hurt passengers in the wreckage– in fact, I believe he was a selfish man who maybe only watched out for himself and a few others. Also the Season 4 flashforwards that we are about to see in the upcoming season is indeed the *bad* Jack trying to right the wrongs that he did on the island on his first chance.
I know this is complicated, and my explanation may not be the best right now, because I am dead tired, but the only thing we dont know is what happens between the Not Penny’s Boat peole arriving and the flashforward season finale of season 3 where Jack says we have to go back kate!
I believe the SHOE to Jack represented his 2nd chance! because I believe he woke up the First time, that they created the Drunk Jack we saw in the flashforwards and did not see a shoe, and frankly wasnt looking for one either.
I just find it weird that they focused on the SHOE in the beginning of season 1, there is really no relevancy besides the fact that maybe they were trying to get the point across that other people had crashed with him.
So tell me if this makes any sense! lol Cliff note version—– Jack is on the island as a dirty old bastard of a man who helps no one, and does what it takes to get off the island, and gets off the island and realizes that he was wrong and figures out a way to GO BACK– possibly by finding Desmond, who turned the key—– then Jack gets to go back, and sees the WHITE SHOE, thus realizing he has a 2nd chance and does it the right way!

I agree that the end can’t center around Jack because of the fact he was supposed to die before the end of the pilot, but that doesnt mean the final shot can’t be focused on him. What I mean is that the finale of the series can be based around the island or lock or whatever, but to make it more dramatic and emotional, the final shot could still be of jack, cause that would be cool. Just my opinion.

what about juliet? Did she is going to be with jack?Does she love him?
Comment by gabik — October 7, 2007 @ 2:09 am
Hmmm. I think it should end like one of those really bad 80s shows, where the whole cast is all standing around and then Billy Dee Williams comes out of nowhere and makes a really bad joke. Then, it freeze-frames on the whole cast laughing (think, end of a "T.J. Hooker" episode).
I’m writing such a dimwit contribution because I could not top some of the awesomeness that has been written above.

Ok ok ok ok, let’s stop this nonsense. I am not going to rubbish any of the ideas already shared because I feel they are a great work of fiction. I guess we have a few writers amongst us. Can I just for once say that lost is only as complicated as we make it. To focus on the finale is shear insanity. Can’t we focus on the lead up to the finale. We will all hate the last episode because it will be the last episode. It’s the thrill of the chase, that moment when you’ve just finished watching one and can’t wait to watch the next. When you feel yourself getting up out your chair, waving your fists and arguing with the television. As fans that is our right and as fans no one can take this away from us.
I’m just gonna throw a few idea’s your way regardless of what the writers have said these ideas still have yet to be disproved on the show itself:-
Time travel, dimensions, displacement of realitivity, clones and my personal favourite ALIENS (laugh all you want there’s noting to suggest theres not)
So go on then start with the abuse.

Zigchild, if "to focus on the finale is shear insanity" as you state in your post, then what possessed you to read an article titled "Lost Producers have Final Image in Mind"? You obviously were interested enough in the finale to not only read the entire article, but also all of the comments or "great works of fiction" as you call them.
The great thing about "Lost," the thing that makes you so excited to see the next show, the thing that makes you wave your fists and argue with the television, is figuring out the mysteries. The show’s producers intend for you to apply some brainpower and try to determine what the end game is. If they’d wanted to create a show that was spoonfed to the audience one episode at a time, we’d all be watching "The Hills".

Ok, this is my end
Jack’s finally at home, he’s not an alcoholic, he’s completely sane. He’s relief of getting off the island. He turns the TV on and lies on the bed, closes his eyes and starts hearing the TV “…Oceanic Flight 815 dissapeared…” Jack looks for the date on the newspaper: Sept. 22, 2004 The camera zooms his eye and the dramatic music begins to play.
