Eddy, yeah, I’d love to know if there’s going to be a S3 soundtrack soon. I have the first two on my iPod and I’m such an obsessive, I can remember the scene for so many of the tracks just by hearing a few notes.
I love two bits of music so much, both from The Man Behind the Curtain.
1. Young Ben sends his bunny through the sonic fence to make sure it’s truly off. There’s a somewhat odd profile shot of the bunny, and you hear a rapid flurry of notes on bongos/tom toms. When, later, Young Ben turns around and sees Richard standing there, the same flurry plays again. Not sure what the connection is between bunnies and The Hostiles, but a cool use of leitmotivs there.
2. When we see Ben looking at the doll Annie carved him, before he leaves to gas Pops Linus, there’s a very simple piano motif that plays. After he comes through the bushes and walks among the dead DHARMA folks, the motif plays underneath that scene. You can hear the quiet rustling of the feet of the Hostiles and the music changes to a minor key and after he tells Richard "No, leave him out there", a great big chord takes us in to the shot of the mass grave. Brilliant use of music.
Favorite tile on the first two season sountracks: Bon Voyage, Traitor, which is used under the Pala Ferry dock scene in Live Together, Die Alone.
