Yes, it is August 15, which means it is 8/15, which looks a hell of a lot better as 815, the unofficial ‘Lost Day,’ even though it historically has nothing to do with the show other than the combinations of digits.  However, in the spirit of Lost, here are some great moments from history that fit the ‘Lost’ motiff.

08/15/1977 - The ‘Big Ear’ Telescope, part of the Seti (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) project, receives a signal so interesting, the observer on duty notated "Wow!" next to it on the printout of the nights readings.  It becomes known as "The Wow! Signal."  If the signal had been found again, it may have been ear marked as the most promising evidence of intelligent life beyond our solar system.  Unfortunately, the signal was never found again.

08/15/1971 - The "Gold Standard," which was the backbone of our economy, is put to an end by President Richard Nixon.  Conspiracy theorist point to this as the beginning of the New World Order since the value can now be manipulated by altering population, off shore resources, and foreign debt.

08/15/2004 - "Phish" plays their final show, effectively breaking up the band forever.  A man who will become known as DocArzt is despondent for weeks.

8/15/1974 - Natasha Henstridge is born.  Years later she will tell a small Philadelphia newspaper that executives at ABC are creating a role for her on Lost.  That clipping will make its way to TheTailsection, and will set off a wild week of denials from ABC, including an infamous live interruption during Kristin Veatch’s chat session.  In case your wondering, no… she didn’t credit TheTailsection… as usual… In a behind the scenes discussion with a nameless informant, DocArzt giggles as a Damon Lindelof spews profanity over Henstridge’s bogus remarks.

8/15/1965 - Rob Thomas is born.  He will go on to produce the show Veronica Mars, which will have the misfortune of airing against Lost.  Some will say that Lost’s popularity crushed Veronica Mars and may have hindered its ability to gain the core audience it needed.   After Veronica Mars is cancelled, Kristin Bell is offered a part on Lost, but declines. The offer was announced a week before 8/15/2007.

Do you have any 8/15 moments to add to the list?  If so tune in below.
