A New Tall, Thin Character Joining “Lost”
During his weekly online "Ask" piece, Michael Ausiello of TVGuide.com reports that there has been a new casting call put out by the Lost crew for a character named Arthur Stevens. According to the report, Mr. Stevens will be a recurring role for the upcoming season. The character profile is for someone who is "a very tall and thin corporate recruiter who is smart, capable and ruthless."
So, the question arises, how will he fit into the "Lost" storyline?
There are really three major options as to where this character may fit in to the "Lost" universe. The first is that he is a member of Dharma, although from what we know of the Initiative, corporate privitization really doesn’t seem to be their game. A second guess would be that Mr. Stevens is from Mittelos Bioscience. One could easily see Stevens filling the would-be void of current Mittelos recruiter, Richard Alpert. The third, and in my opinion, most likely option may be that he is involved with whoever or whatever sent Naomi.
With the promise that whoever was on their way to the island would be even scarier and more dangerous than, "the Others," the probability that Arthur Stevens is going to be the new "bad guy" is reasonable. Especially when you figure in this other piece of information put out as a character description. Ausiello reports that the casting notice reads, "He may smile and his words may sound soothing, but their effect can send chills up your spine."

I very much appreciate this great casting catch DocArzt!
Guess I see Dharma and Mittelos Bioscience as directly related, perhaps simply as Dharma’s public face. Curious, what evidence says they aren’t?
It is possible that Dharma is headed by Alvar Hanso while Bad Hanso+ allies covertly operate within and/or adjacent to Dharma thru Mittelos Bioscience which secretly constructed the hidden Staff room and/or the Looking Glass, and/or perhaps other infrastructure.
Either way the casting call is to recruit specific talent for specific tasks which is typical as research progresses and new needs are discovered. Sounds like much fun in Season 4 & 5! For example, perhaps a flashback that explains Casey our Gemologist. Clearly many CIA/military characters where recruited at some point.

I’m probably mistaken, but the name seems really familiar. Is it possible that we’ve heard this name on the show before?

It’ll be Naomi’s boss. Those people will end up making what The Others state, true - they are the good guys, trying to protect the island from these bad guys who want to ‘Jurrasic Park’ its natural phenomenon.

Can you say “Fill-in for Richard Alpert”?

Just got to work and read this. Unfortunately I was beaten to what I was going to say. Cheers Giovanni.

The guy from the boat that Jack talked to…he sounded kind of soothing.

Richpundit: Miitelos is a front for the others and not DHARMA.
I feel like the whole others/ recruiter story with Alpert was accomplished last season. I don’t see a need to introduce a new Mittelos recruiter as an Alpert replacement.
I also think the story of DHARMA recruitment has been covered in the Man Behind the Curtain.
Which leaves me to think this will be whoever is offshore. Probably a threat to the island/others and this character will probably be looking to recruit some of the losties into their ranks since many of the losties consider the others enemies.

Perhaps JJ, but there are many possible ways to weave what we know. For example, we already know that some from Dharma joined the Others, e.g., Ben.
Perhaps, our newly casted recruiter will have a recurring role in flashbacks as an off-Island recruiter for Dharma to fill needed roles. As Dharma research discovers new things, different skills may be needed. Also as a twist, I believe that a Hanso other than Alvar discovered, infiltrated, and covertly controlled at least some of the Dharma activities for ruthless purposes. The “We’re the Good Ones” Others purged the Bad Hanso and his allies, and now fear their return, i.e., Naomi.
Think there are many possibilities for a ruthless recruiter role in our LOST saga - RichPundit
