JJ Abrams’ “Monstrous” Sighted at Comic Con!
J.J Abrams mysterious monster film known as Clover, Cloverfield, Slusho, and 1-18-08, has been spotted in high-resolution goodness at Comic Con! Curiously, this is the same poster which bore the title "Monstrous" in some hazy camera phone pics, but it does not carry that title! Hmmmm.

I’m freaking excited as all hell for this. I saw the teaser and it is extremely well done.

I hope the keep it with no title. That would be fucking amazing.

long term lurker, but a friend and i were literally just talking about this poster, which he absolutely hated. He was in NYC on 9/11 and thought it was pretty irresponsible to use the same sort of imagery for a teaser poster. I tend to to agree with him, but I don’t think that takes away from the movie, which he agreed about. i think we both agreed this poster will have a hard time getting people excited about the movie in places like NYC and DC.

I can understand your friend’s sensitivity on the subject, but personally I think it was only an inevitability that someone would confront the subject of urban pandemonium with the same visual lexicon that has become a part of our culture post-9/11; to do anything else is, in my evaluation, to dance around the issue.

That’s what I thought, too…Godzilla. A Godzilla that was actually a good movie.

How is this poster in any way, shape, or form in bad taste? The attacks on 9/11 were five years ago, had absolutely nothing to do with the statue of liberty OR monsters (or at least the make-believe kind), and make ZERO reference to planes or terrorists. I think if this bothers you and your friend, than you should both buy some Vagisil and see a shrink.

While David may not have been as sensitive as he could have been.. I agree.
This poster has nothing to do with 9/11. If seeing a city (or even New York) in any kind of monster movie, or distress makes you think it’s in poor taste. Than either you need to see past it (not everything is about 9/11) or just avoid such affairs altogether. I have the utmost sensitivity for those that were closely affected by 9/11, but this poster shouldn’t be viewed in that regard.

I don’t believe Paramont has the rights to Godzilla. If they don’t, then they can’t call it Godzilla.
