Is ‘Lost: The Complete Third Season’ Coming to Blu-Ray?
Not that Lost fans haven’t grown accustomed to conflicting reports concerning plotlines & character development before, but now the misinformation campaign seems to have extended itself to the release of the upcoming Season 3 DVD set.
For months there have been rumours of a Blu-Ray version of "Lost: The Complete Third Season" making its way onto shelves and online stores. A quick look into the search engines, however, will only serve to raise your hopes for such a snag and then just as quickly quash them. As recently as May 31st, one website (www.highdefdigest.com) reports that an executive from Disney Home Entertainment has said that the set will definitely NOT make it to Blu-Ray. Our own DocArzt, on the other hand, has written an article citing that as of July 26th, Amazon.com has begun taking pre-orders for this last season’s Blu-Ray release on December 11th of this year.
So which is it?
As of now, there still seems to be confusion regarding the subject, but rest assured there are those of us hot on the case. DocArzt has put in an e-mail to a person in publications who will, "definitely know." So far there has been no response, but the best hope is that news regarding this subject will come out during Comicon.
One thing that is for certain is what a Blu-Ray release would mean for "Lost" easter egg hunters. The increased quality of picture and sound could result in even clearer snapshots and audio files than those previously available using ABC’s 720 HD broadcast. Imagine being able to read the entire newspaper clipping that Jack was holding in the season finale, or to get better transcripts of the "jungle whispers." Even the less-obsessed amongst us would benefit from getting a second chance at seeing the brief appearance of the infamous Jacob or Mikhail’s encounter with the sonic fence in all the brilliance of Blu-Ray’s 1080p.
The good news is that Disney has already released many of its feature length movies in Blu-Ray format and other shows such as "Smallville" and "Heroes" have had some early success as high-definition releases. The bottom-line will be whether or not Disney believes that there are enough fans of the show that have the neccessary equipment to enjoy a Blu-Ray set.
