ABC Press Tour Begins - Michael Returns!
ABC’s press tour kicked off today and started out with Stephen McPherson saying that some major Lost news was coming… at Comic Con. Luckily, the reporters pounced on McPherson, calling him a fanboy lover (okay I made that up), until he rescued from the wings by a mystery woman (no word on whether she was in black leather or not) who gave him the okay directly from Carlton and Damon to let loose one nugget of information. Harold Perrineau is definitely rejoining the cast.
Of course, that confirmation just opens millions of new questions: Will he be on the island? In the flash forwards? Is he a spirit? Did Naomi’s people capture him? As long as Walt also returns so we don’t have to listen to him pine for him incessantly - not a highlight of Harold’s otherwise stellar performances - it’s all good!

holy caljoli! The Return of Michael! I’ve been calling it for months and now it is finally true.
Maybe he is the guy in the coffin? And Damon and Carlton are just screwing with us - Michael will be back all right, but he won’t be alive.

I want him to come back, explain what happened and then be chopped up in 108 pieces with Walt by Lostzilla

>As long as Walt also returns so we don’t have to listen to him pine for him incessantly
By the time Ben sneered “Bon voyage” in his direction at the end of LTDA, I was yearning for Michael to die so I didn’t have to hear him yell “Waaaalllltttt!” or say “my son, my son” one. more. freaking. time.
I also wanted him to go because his Walt obsession –understandable, but still– made him a really boring, one dimensional character as they wrote him. I mean, here was a guy who was an artist, used his construction experience to design a water flow system and knew about stresses in caves who was reduced to being a simpering idiot that couldn’t even glom on to the fact that coming across an Other taking a leak was a trap.
I can’t decide if Michael or Boone was the most poorly written of the original cast. It’s close….
Doc, you need to fix your Preview feature. It’s not much use when one uses it and instead of posting your proofread comment it gives you a “you’ve posted too recently try again later” message.

am I the only one who really felt for michael? Its not like the Others killed Jack, Kate or Sawyer. I’m glad to have him back.

*Sheeesh*…wassup with all the hate….who’s running his big mouth now…
I’m glad he’s back, cos i like Perrineau’s acting… Luv it or hate, but the whole “Walt” story was one of the major catalyst for our current Losties situation, so they had to deal with both characters again. It’s gonna be interesting where Cusaloff are gonna go from here. Great!!!

Jimmy, so the others didn’t kill J.K.S., but Michael did kill Ana Lucia and Libby. Libby and Hurley were really starting to connect.
I love having a character back that you hate. It makes the story much more interesting.

I’m disappointed that Harold Perrineau is returning to Lost. I was happy when he and Walt left. I wanted to believe they returned to the real world and that was the end of their story even though Damon and Carlton had said it wasn’t. I always thought that having such a huge cast made it difficult to tell everyone’s story well. (In order for some to get a lot of screen time, others are woefully under used.) Unfortunately, every time the main cast is “downsized”, they just add some new ones, so it really doesn’t change; and in fact new cast members and even some recurring guest roles get as much or more time than the original cast.
Adding Ben, Juliet, and Desmond more than made up for losing Michael, Walt, and Shannon last year. This year we lost Mr. Eko and Charlie, so next year we get Michael and probably Walt back. Not a great trade.
Michael’s hysterical obsession with Walt was so draining in season 2. Sawyer saved Michael’s life (even though he himself was wounded) after the raft was blown up, but there was no thank you, only blame for Walt being taken. (Of course, Michael did return the favor when Sawyer collapsed on the way back to the beach.) Later there was the shocking murder of Ana Lucia and Libby and the betrayal of friends that were willing to risk their lives to get back Walt. Michael had no qualms about doing any of this even though Walt’s life was not in danger and Michael knew it. There were other options, but Michael couldn’t or wouldn

Imo if Michael is back, Walt will be back. I have long awaited to see the new Michael. Someone tortured by his actions. A man who is tortured by the murder of two innocent women so he could get his son back… How can you not feel for Michael. He has lost his son so many times. And this last time he snapped. He has been pushed aside and manipulated so many times that he was through with that. He wasn’t gonna get help he needed to do it himself.Michael has always been one of my favorite characters. He was the tragic hero. A good man who fell into sin based entirely on a bad situation… how can you not feel for him?

Many of you complainers act as if they are bringing him back just to bring him back. I’m sure the writers have good plans for him.
Personally, I hope he is in the segments off the Island. He most likely didnt tell anyone when he got home of his killings. So a confrontation between him and Jack would be spectacular

I think Michael will mainly be seen in the flash forwards until it it eventually shown what happened to him and Walt when they left the Island.
Comment by Mossy — July 25, 2007 @ 8:15 pm
I think it’ll be definitely for flash forwards, to explain what happened when he sailed away in the boat. It makes the most sense, to me

I don’t understand all the hate either. In most shows, we root for the bad guys to be killed, but Lost isn’t most shows. There isn’t a dichotomy between the good buys and the bad guys. Michael is just another flawed character– it just so happens that his flaws came out on the island rather than before he arrived, but that’s no reason for people to dread his return.
I’m almost positive that we’ll only see Michael in flashforwards (see my posts in the season 4 spoiler thread). The producers have long said that Malcolm David Kelly’s growth would be addressed when he comes back, and everyone ran with island-magic-powers ideas… but in fact the answer is much more mundane: Walt is 3 years older.
The fact is that there are interesting stories to tell about Michael. How does he cope with his acts on the island? How does he rejoin society? Does he take on an alias? Does he ever encounter any Others or 815ers? How is his relationship with Walt now? Have Walt’s powers changed in any way? I don’t think that these stories will include exactly how Mike gets back to civilization, to be honest. I think the answer is that he just does, relatively uneventfully.
In short, this is awesome news.
