FlashBack: Jack
Locke realizes that Charlie and Claire are in trouble, and he and Jack race after them. They are already gone with at least three distinct tracks. Two people are dragged off according to the marks in the ground. Locke wants to prepare, Jack wants to rush off, so Locke points him in the direction to go.
FlashBack
Woman on the operating table crashing. The patient flatlines and Jack continues working. He desperate to not let her go. Jack’s dad tells him to call the time of death.
Island
The hunting party (because tells Jack later that Jack is the surgeon, so let Locke be the hunter), Jack, Kate, Boone, Locke, head North. Michael wants to go but Locke is dismissive and tells him to form a party and go South. Jack is lost .
FlashBack
Jack and his Dad argue over the dead patient where Jack questions his father’s drinking. Before the emergency operation Jack was in the hospital, but his dad was on lunch break. Why did they call him and not Jack.
Island
Jack has been walking in circles when the hunting party catches up. We learn from Locke that Ethan is an expert tracker and hunter.
Michael is complaining to Hurley that "Mount Baldy" is not showing him respect. Walt defends Locke which brings a reprimand from Michael. He heads off South when Hurley admits to Walt that he was known as a Warrior back home.
On the Trail, Locke is panting and they need to rest. Jack disagrees and urges to press on. Kate asks Jack privately, "Would it kill you to give the guy (Locke) a little space." Jack answered, "It might." He admits to feeling guilty for not believing Claire.
Locke finds one of Charlie’s finger tapes. They continue the pursuit where Kate and Jack separate from Boone and Locke both were following tracks..
Walt and Sawyer talk where Sawyer finds out that Sayid has returned. Hurley was supposed to keep track of Walt, so why is he talking to Sawyer? Is it really Walt?
Boone explains to Locke about the Red Shirt phenomenon on Star Trek. Locke responds that Kirk sounds like a piss-poor captain. John also admits to being a regional collections supervisor for a box company.
Jack wants to know how Kate learned to track where she admitted to going hiking with her Dad who was an Army Ranger. They are exhausted.
FlashBack
Jack is directed to sign a report on the patient. Christian pleads for Jack to sign the report with flattery. He acts like a father in the moment of fear for losing the only thing he knows. Like many alcoholics bargaining for more time to make it right.
Island
Sawyer confronts Sayid, presumably for revenge. Fresh out of forgiveness from Sawyer. We know that Sayid now believes Rousseau.
Walt and Hurley play backgammon where Walt gets every roll he needs. A 4-3, a 6-6. Hurley now owes walt $20,000.
Locke and Boone lose the trail and now they are following Locke’s gut. The infamous rain scene where Locke predicts it will rain in one minute, and it does.
Jack and Kate exhausted hear a strange sound, like the Hurley bird. Then Jack hears a woman’s scream. Apparently, Kate didn’t hear it. Jack climbs in the direction of the scream, and Kate follows. Jack slips and falls, hitting the his head on the ground. He encounters Ethan who does not seem to be affected by the hike. He warns Jack that one will die if he continues to follow him. Then Ethan opens up a mega can of whoop-ass on Jack. (Was this a real encounter?)
FlashBack
Christian is talking to the woman’s husband who is threatening to file suit.
Island
Jack awakes and proclaims that Ethan was here, and that He was not going to let him do it again. (Remember Desmond Flashing after head trauma)
FlashBack
In a lawyer’s office, Christian covers for the death of the patient. Upon finding out that the woman was pregnant, Jack decides to do right thing and discloses that his father nicked an artery causing her death.
Island
Charlie is hanging from a tree. Kate cuts him down and Jack attempts to revive him. At first he is unsuccessful, but he then gives it one more try, willing Charlie back to life. His first breath and relief from Kate seems more like excitement at the birth of a new baby.
Back at the caves, Charlie does not remember what happens. He says only that they wanted Claire.
Locke and Boone are still out in the middle of the jungle at night. Locke throws Boone the flashlight which he drops on top of something metal.
