Back from the Brink
Yes, your worst fears have been realized. I am back.
But seriously, after a long and not very refreshing hiatus I’m back in action and ready to pick up where I left off. I’m not even going to attempt to cover any of the news that broke while I was down, but I will give some quick reflections on a few key points of interest.
Before that, let me say that the response to the request for contributors was fantastic. I expect to finish going through them this week and will soon be announcing the new "Team Tailsection" along with a project that will unify TTS and thelostexperience.com in an exciting new way that will hopefully be a lot of fun for everybody. On that note, believe it or not, I still want more contributors! So if you have not heard back from me, don’t worry… you’re still in the running. I will tell you if I’m declining you invitation to help out. If your interest in becoming a writer for thetailsection, definitely send me an email at doctorarzt@gmail.com.
Now for the commentary on the latest goings ons.
The Emmy Snub Redux?
Maybe my head is in the wrong place, but even though LOST is apparently on the short list (according to info leaked by TheEnvelope.com) I’m still concerned about the show’s chances of snaring across the board nominations. Does it deserve them? Yes! Is the industry smart enough? Well, at least one segment is. We’ve seen a display of awesome intelligence from ABC in the way they have accommodated the fans of this show. If the industry were smart across the board, though, we would have seen big changes in television production. Instead, the networks continue to serve us flop after flop, reimagining after reimagining, and more cookie cutter high-concept drivel. It’d be delightful for LOST to sweep this year, but my philosophy has shifted to apathy.
New In, Old Out?
Probably not the first person to say this. The announcement that there is a new regular joining the cast for season four probably means there is an old regular leaving. It’s just the cycle of LOST. On that note, it would have to be the diva that Kristin has been talking about. There were similar claims about Adewale, and he barely had a speaking part in season three before they offed him. Could there be an early departure for our diva when season four begins, ala Shannon?
That’s all I have for now. Thanks to those of you who waited patiently for the island magic to restore my blogging vigor.

Damn it. I hoped you were dead.

Who is this diva that has everyone so pissed? anyone know? or am I just out of the loop on this one
Comment by WhiteShoeJack — July 4, 2007 @ 9:37 am
Glad you’re back, Doc. Your site helps keep my interest in Lost alive and well.
I’m with WhiteShoeJack, however, on the diva issue. There’s been a whole lot of speculation, but no real answers. Do you know who it is and, if so, can you reveal?
Comment by NotOphelia — July 4, 2007 @ 10:02 am
I don’t know who the Diva is. I really try not to pay any attention to that sort of thing.
Comment by docarzt — July 4, 2007 @ 10:26 am
wouldn’t it make sense that the ‘old out’ would be dominic monaghan? They just killed a whole lot of others, so I don’t think the addition of a person necessarily has to mean the departure of someone else. The departure could be claire though, as desmond did see her getting off the island in a helicopter.
Comment by Jimmy — July 4, 2007 @ 11:11 am
Your right Jimmy… it could be.

By show of hands, who really believes that Damon Lindelof wants Doc dead?
Comment by JoJoDancer — July 4, 2007 @ 3:07 pm
Just to make it clear, Kristin never said anything about a “Diva” That was Aussiello and Kristin has confirmed that Aussielo’s No-Talent Diva is not related to LOST or her tidbit. Kristin says that a castmate is alienating themselves from the rest and that it has already affected the show’s storyline. There is a pivitol line at the end of one of the last few episodes on the beach that talks about what is happening off the set. my guess is that it is Matthew Fox. Oh Kristin also said that it is NOT Emilie De Ravin.
Comment by BenjaminLeeway — July 4, 2007 @ 3:21 pm
Thanks for the clarification. I was not, however, mincing Ausiello’s no-talent-diva with Kristin’s. ‘Diva’ just applies to the behavior in general.

A little off topic, but I just saw Transformers (I won’t even go into what I thought about the movie, but bare with me, this is going somewhere) when I saw a very interesting trailer for a new movie. I’ve never seen anything like this - they never said the title for the movie it did say who was involved. One Mr. J.J. Abrams! The trailer showed a bunch of college age kids partying from the perspective of somebody with a home video camera and then there’s this massive roaring and a huge explosion outside. You don’t see the “monster” but it looks like Godzilla meets The Blair Witch Project. The trailer ends with screaming and chaos in the streets and then finally, the statue of liberty’s head landing on top of a bunch of parked cars. Pretty mysterious stuff if you ask me…

By the way, i just watched the trailer - Smokey’s salary should increase - now he-she-it-blergh is a movie star!
Hurray Smoley!

I am thrilled to you have you back and well. I am fairly new to the Lost sites, but I can easily state that this is one of my favorites and you Doc are why. By the way, has anyone else noticed that the flight attendant in Jacks flash forward is the same flight attendant who speaks to Jack on Flight 815 before it crashes? Someone please verify.
Comment by julietlost — July 4, 2007 @ 8:59 pm
Cindy Chandler??? I don’t think that’s her giving bearded Jack the drink on the flight.

Cloverfield is just a codename for now.
I heard the very talented “Richard” will becoming a season regular. If Claire is the “diva” as I have heard I kind of think it’s ashame. Since Charlie died to save her and Aaron I hope the writers are careful on how they “off” her so it doesn’t destroy the integrity of the Charlie story arc. Will Jack end up raising Aaron?

Welcome back Doc! Glad you are back! I actually am really curious to know who on the cast of LOST is alienating the rest of the group. I have been reading about this for awhile and I have no idea who it could be. Hopefully they patch things up with the rest of the group, because I would hate to see someone kicked off the show because they can’t get along with the rest of the cast. And I don’t want the storyline to have to change because of it. I really don’t think it’s Matthew Fox. Anyone think they know who it is?
Comment by Shiloh — July 5, 2007 @ 9:07 am
It would be cool if it was Richard who was becoming a series regular, I really like him. I’ve also heard rumors that Michael will be coming back as a regular next season so I guess it’s possible they’re talking about him.
Comment by Shiloh — July 5, 2007 @ 9:09 am
Actually, Kristin debunked Claire as the trouble-maker already.
Comment by DocArzt — July 5, 2007 @ 9:10 am
Yes, I did hear that this project was codenamed “Cloverfield”. And OGeleia, I was thinking about the same thing but I didn’t know how to word it in my original post. Nice one! Maybe Smokey will get a stamp on the Hollywood walk of fame… but how would he leave a hand print?
Comment by steeeeve — July 5, 2007 @ 9:34 am
On Richard being a regular, the actor is now on a CBS drama in the fall called Cane.
Comment by TabulaRasa — July 5, 2007 @ 10:54 am
Maggie Grace was NOT a diva on the set in ANY WAY…
she was loved by Damon and Carlton, they kept calling her a ‘mensch’.. mensch roughly means “a good person.” A role model.
But its normal for Lost to bring in new regulars every season, I dont mind… last season we got Juliet, Desmond and Ben as regulars… all fan favourites… so bring it on!
Comment by Frankee — July 5, 2007 @ 11:08 am
Frankee…. I wasn’t saying she was a Diva, just that she departed early into the second season.
Comment by DocArzt — July 5, 2007 @ 11:54 am
Sorry my bad…
I thought you meant she was acting like a diva on the set and thats why she left the show…
I do miss maggie on the show imo
Comment by Frankee — July 5, 2007 @ 12:41 pm
The list of possible diva’s is pretty short:
Claire
Juliet
Kate
Sun
Rose
Cindy
Penelope
Danielle
Out of this group, who would the island want to off next?
Comment by TabulaRasa — July 6, 2007 @ 11:03 am
The old regulars would be even shorter:
Claire
Kate
Juliet
Danielle
Comment by TabulaRasa — July 6, 2007 @ 11:09 am
Actually, I don’t think the diva list is limited to girls. Unfortunatly, the term Diva, originally used globally about twice a year, has become one of those words whose popularity has seen it’s use grow to being used about 7000 times a day per high school.
In short, Diva is now a word thrown around by and for both boys and girls.
*warning*
Everything past this point is a joke. Responding in a serious way to anything below this line means you are officially wasting your time.
I think the Diva is Dominic A.K.A. Charlie. We’ll undoubtably see him in season 4 via flashbacks and such, so he’s not totally gone from the show yet. Besides, let’s examine the facts. He’s a 5 foot hobbit with no major acting experience. Suddenly he’s on the hottest show on television and dating, well, the hottest girl on the planet. I’d be a diva too after that turn around!
I could be wrong though. Maybe the diva is Aaron, damn snobby babies.
