Stick this in your ‘canon’

Lost News — July 31, 2007 at 11:15 pm by TabulaRasa

An interesting email arrived for me this evening.  It contained what appears to be a scan of a mimeographed sheet from a Dharma Initiative project manual.  Problem is, it’s in Norwegian. As it turns out, automated translators don’t play nicely with Norwegian.  The results were, in a word, meaningless.  Certain parts seemed to make sense, but only by severely skewing the context of phrases that otherwise looked pretty damn random.

So I’ll post a couple of versions of the page here, and if anyone speaks Norwegian, or knows someone who does, perhaps you can share with us what it says.

It is, of course, highly likely this is not canon and just produced to drive us all crazy.  I assure you, I will get some kind of confirmation one way or the other.  However, those of you who followed our contribution to The Lost Experience may recall that we were called upon to spread information that was canon, and dutifully obliged;  so there is a slim chance.

Daniel Dae Kim Joins Andromeda Strain

Lost News — at 1:54 pm by TabulaRasa

Daniel Dae KimLost star Daniel Dae Kim has joined the cast of A&E’s highly anticipated four hour adaptation of Michael Crichton’s The Andromeda Strain.  Kim will play the part of Tsi Chou, a North Korean biological weapons expert brought in to contain a deadly virus from outer space.

The novel centered on the efforts of an elite team whose purpose was to deal with just such an event.  The model was echoed in Threshold, bringing an eclectic blend of scientists together.  Not to be too spoilery, but by the end of the book the central laboratory’s defense systems became more dangerous that the disease itself, but we’ll save that for the movie.

If you can’t wait for Kim’s version of the movie, check out the perfectly awesome 1971 adaptation by Director Robert Wise.  It rocks.

My ‘Lost’ Duplicates Theory Lives!

Lost Theories — July 30, 2007 at 7:31 pm by TabulaRasa

It’s okay folks, I will definitely accept the apologies from all of you who said my duplicate theory was nuts - without too much of an ‘I told you so sneer.’  Of course, the joke could be on me, you never know, but I take the Orchid Orientation film as canon.  Hey, after all, Carlton and Damon said so.  So what does this imply?  For a round of speculation, that may be mildly spoilerish, click on through.

Lost Moving To Friday!?

Lost News — July 28, 2007 at 3:02 pm by TabulaRasa

UPDATE:  The comment in question has now been disputed by Damon Lindelof himself.  In addition, Lindelof told EW’s Doc Jensen that Lost would not be moved to Friday. Phew.  Feel free to vote for your day of choice, and enjoy the ranting on why Friday would be bad… even though it is totally irrellevant.

At Comic-Con, Damon Lindelof made a comment that lead many to believe that Lost might be moving to Friday.  Was this comment meant to generate a pulse for ABC’s scheduling department?  Are we avoiding our civic duty as Lost-citizens not to discuss how a Friday move would be received?  Of course we are.

So in the interest of providing a small amount of market research for ABC to mull over, post your thoughts on the possibility of a Friday time-slot for Lost, and give a little vote to let them know you care.

So here comes my ranting on the topic. Friday is bad. The only reason Friday is bad, is it is a low ratings day. With the unprecedented move of scheduling out the remaining 48 episodes of lost in three 16-episode ‘Events’ deserves a spot where it can get the ratings numbers it deserves.

Another problem I have with this is the public perception of what friday night means. We already went through that ridiculous "Lost is losing it" phase at the beginning of season three. A move to Friday is going to generate even more negative press, which will lower viewer morale, and ultimately lead to viewers dropping out; just like with the hate campaign that assailed Lost at the beginning of Season three.

Here is what will happen. The media will use the fact that Lost was snubbed for outstanding series, combine it with the fact that Lost has been moved to a day known for low ratings, and make a big hate-pie to send out on the airwaves. Of course, the articles will be full of notes on how Bionic Woman has failed on Wednesday, reinforcing the death of interest in genre shows (I’ve seen the pilot, its ugly), Moonlight will have croaked ON Friday already, reinforcing Friday as the mass grave for ailing or hopeless shows, and of course if it is still going strong Heroes will again be put on a pedestal as the example of "how to do it right."

That’s my theory, and I’m sticking to it.

Lost Season 4 Preview (?)

Lost News — at 7:51 am by TabulaRasa

The question of whether or not the Orchid Orientation film is canon has been answered.  ABC posted the video on its video.abc.com site and titled it "Lost New Season Preview."   Are we going to see the finished "Orchid" video to find out more about what the purpose of this mysterious station is?

As TabulaRasa pointed out, one possible application of the ‘Casimir’ effect mentioned in the clip is stabilizing worm holes.  And what is that we see?  A duplicate?  Hmm, has my duplicate theory been avenged in some manner after all?  Stay tuned.

It is still possible that the film is an ‘inside’ joke.  There are many Lost staples in the film, freeze frame moments, whispers, as well as the stuff of legend and conjecture: is Candle/Wickmund/Eurawachs a scientist or an actor, hints of cloning, even more subtle hints of time travel applications.

Would the Lost gang leave the auditorium, laying on us a huge chunk of information to dissect and theorize on, only to later tell us it was a joke?  I think they know their audiences tolerances a little better than that by now.

Lost Episode Guide: 2.12 - “Fire + Water”

Lost Episodes, Lostpendium, Season 2 — July 27, 2007 at 8:13 pm by Tapdawg

Director: Jack Bender
FlashBack: Charlie

Charlie in the jungle looking at his stash of Virgin Mary’s

FlashBack/Dream:
In Bunnie slippers, Charlie runs down the staircase on Christmas morning.  Liam gets a Voltron toy, which rocks!  Charlie looks but cannot find any presents for him.  His mom comes down and points to his present, a piano.  His mom tells him he is special, and that he will save his family.  He looks back to Liam who is all grown up, still in tighty whiteys playing with his Voltron.  A full grown Charlie is in the same pajamas at the piano. Mom wanting to hear a tune, Liam mocking him, and his Dad, with a butcher shop in their living room telling him that music will not get him anywhere, he needs a trade.  His dad has bloody hands and goes through meat with the cleaver, then the head of a doll.  Liam and his mom ask Charlie to "save us."

He is playing the piano now on the beach.  He hears Aaron craying in the piano.  He tries to open it with his fingers wrapped like in the first season with the word "fate" written on the tape.  He looks for help as the piano gets washed out to sea.

Beach in the Morning:
He wakes up from the nightmare and goes looking for Aaron.  Charlie finds Claire and Locke holding the baby.

Later, Charlie comes to Claire and gives Aaron some nappies.  He inquires, but Claire tries to push him away,  After a few apologies, Claire interrupts saying there was no before.  But, Charlie betrays his jealousy by inquiring about her new friend Locke to which Claire asks for space.

FlashBack
Charlie looking and waving at a baby through glass in a hospital nursery.  Charlie sees Karen and hugs her concerned that she is up after so soon after having the baby.  She tells him that they named her Megan.  Liam is not there, and Charlie covers for him.

At his apartment, a cigarette is burning on his piano.  He gets all over Liam because he had to cover for him.  After scolding him, he says that her name is Megan after their mum.

Beach:
Hurley still asking people about Libby.  This time with Sawyer as Kate is helping him rehab.  They see Ana Lucia and Jack emerge from the Jungle.

Dream:
Charlie, by himself, is playing his guitar as he hears the baby crying.  Charlie runs into the water, and sees his bassinet.  Charlie is having trouble swimming.  He finally retreives Aaron.

As he looks on the beach he sees a vision of Claire as Mary and his Mom as Joseph.  The both repeatedly say "The baby is in danger. You have to save the baby."  There is a clickin almost motorized noise, a boom with a flash and a dove that comes from it and flies away.  Hurley shows up in robes asking what he is doing.

Scene changes to night
Charlie is disoriented and surprised that he has Aaron in his arms while standing in the ocean. Claire is yelling in the background and Hurley calls her over.  Charlie begins to explain, but she strikes him and walks away with Aaron.

Next Morning
Hurley and Sawyer are playing "21."  Sawyer is trying to explain how to play against the dealer.  They see Libby and Sawyer gives Hurley a little encouragement as he pulls an old a college prank on him by yelling Libby’s name and ducking for cover.  Libby looks up and sees Hurley and waves to him.

Outside the Swan, Charlie tries to talk to John.  He tries to talk to John, but John asks if he’s using.  Charlie points out that everyone else is seeing things, but they must assume that Charlie is using if it happens to him.  Unfortunately, Charlie lies about the statues saying that all were destroyed.  Locke does tell him that Claire needs time.

[the Charlie theme on guitar]

FlashBack
We see the backs of Drive Shaft as they sit in their directors chairs waiting for instructions from the director.  Liam looks horrible.  Charlie drinking tea.  They all take off their robes and are doing a commercial for "Butties Diapers."  The baby bed that they are in has polar bears in the corner.

Liam is such a wreck that they wrap.  The director wanted Dirt Spigot, he was only doing it as a favor for his lawyer.

Swan:
Libby asks if the Washer and dryer are newer than everything else?  They flirt a bit as she tries on a dress. Hurley asks if he knows her from somewhere.

Beach:
Eko is marking trees because he likes them. Charlie tells Eko of the visions he was been having.  Eko inquires about the dreams.  Charlie tells him of the dreams of Aaron in danger.  Eko says that maybe they mean something.

Beach Camp:
Charlie is on a mission to see Claire and Kate tries to get in his.  Charlie gets to Claire to tell her that Aaron is in danger and needs to be baptized.  Kate pushes him as Locke looks on.

Ana Lucia is binding limbs to make a shelter and Jack brings a tarp.  AL asks about what happened in the jungle with the others.   Jack tells her about Kate being held hostage.

Charlie goes to his stash.  Six statues.  Charlies takes one breaks it and takes the heroin.

FlashBack:
Charlie writing a song.  Liam walks in after Karen kicks him out after he dropped Megan.  No money no where to go, but Charlie is writing again.  He starts playing a song:

Funny now
You finally see me standing here

Funny now
I’m crying in the rain

All Alone
I try to be invisible

Together now
We can be saved.

Liam gets excited, then asks if Charlies has any…

In the Jungle:
Locke says he is disappointed with Charlie. Charlie tries to explain but Locke will not listen to his excuses.  He tries to reason with Locke that island tests them and that this is a test.  But, Charlie has given up the right to be believed.

Beach:
Claire is worried about the baby and wants to move into the hatch.  Locke reassures her by setting up camp next to here for the next few nights.

She inquires with Locke about Baptism, but he knows little aboput it.  Locke explains that baptism is spiritual insurance. It is to guarantee that the baby gets to heaven just in case something happens.

Charlie starts a fire in some brush and walks into camp, blowing off a request from Sayid for some help. Sayid then sees fire coming towards the camp.

Claire is protecting Aaron, and Charlie hows up in his hoody.

FlashBack:
Charlie comes home, and the piano is gone.  Liam sold it.  He needed the money to go to Australia to clean up and save his family.

Beach:
The camp is fighting the fire.  Charlie takes Aaron as Claire back is turned.  He runs to the beach only wanting to save the baby.  He turns to Eko for reinforcement, but he says this not the way.  In tears, he finally gives Aaron to Locke who hands him to Claire.  Then, he is then greeted by a Locke smack down that results in Charlies baptism in the shallows if the ocean.

Morning:
Charlie admits that he started the fire.  He tells Jack that he didn’t use.  But, Jack only wants to know if he will act this way again.  Charlie confirms that it will not happen again.  And Jack responds by stitching up his cuts from Locke.

Eko is looking at the burned trees he marked earlier.  Claire walks up asking about baptism.  Eko related the story of John the Baptist baptizing Jesus.  When the dove appeared, he knew that this man’s sins were completely cleansed that Jesus was freed.  Heaven came much later.

Comment: I just can’t help this part so forgive my intrusion in the story.  The theology of this is completely wrong.  Not even the Catholic church believes this or follows it.  Most theologians say that the event of John baptizing Jesus was not an act of cleansing, but an act of obedience.  However, many denominations believe that baptism is necessary to be received into heaven.  Instead of getting to far in religious babble, the point to the above "story" is that baptism is meant not only to change a destination in eternity, but a direction in life.  Eko is telling Claire that there is an importance to the "here and now" as well as the "here after."

Claire is worried that something happens to her that she and Aaron would not meet later.  Eko reassures by saying that he can baptize both of them.

Swan:
Locke changes the combination to the Lock.

Beach:
Eko baptizes Aaron and Claire.

Swan:
Locke locks up the Mary’s in the gun closet.

Beach at Night:
Charlie puts on his hoody and stares in the fire.

Shot rings out and in front of them and Sawyer is nicked.  Mr. Friendly reassures them that Michael is not going to find them.  He then tells Locke to build a fire so they can talk.
