Emmy Historian Gives “LOST” Good Odds For Nomination Victories
Author Wesley Hyatt, who wrote "Emmy Award Winning Nighttime Television Shows 1948-2004" amongst other industry insider books, is giving LOST some good odds for nailing major nominations this season.
"Nominations for writing and directing look certain, as well as a few for actors, like Matthew Fox and Terry O’Quinn, and as disappointing as the show could be at times this season, when ‘Lost’ is great, there are few shows on TV that can match it, and I think Emmy voters will be more likely to give it a shot." Hyatt told TvWeek.
In reality, we need this win. Yes, those of you with long memories will no doubt chide me for my less than surprised reaction to LOST’s infamous snub last year. I stand by those remarks. It’s a fan’s right. Just like many ‘24′ fans are not expecting their sixth season to nab anywhere near the level of recognition it received last year.
What I’d like to hear is what you folks think about the importance of these awards? I’ll tell ya that I am watching every minute of this story until it ends regardless of what accolades it receives. On the other hand, witnessing the new heights that LOST reached this season was kind of like seeing a flying saucer for me, LOST nabbing an Emmy for Best Drama Series would sort of validate that the buzz over LOST’s steady improvement wasn’t just unanimous fan boy hyperbole.

I don’t knw the frst thing about emmys, but I do know that this season of 24 sucked. Hard.

I dont think it matters in the since of me watching the show anymore or not, but we just had an amazin season! I just hope the show and cast get recognized this year for their wounderfull achievement! I think the show getting recognised like that would shut the mouths of allot of critics (not as much anymore) that say the show has lost it, though agin, i could care less what people say about the show, i still love it!

I want to see Lost nab a boatload of nominations (and wins) for 2 reasons- one: because it is still a great show, and two: to stick it to all the naysayers who said the show was done.

Yeah, really - I am so sick of people ragging on ‘Lost’. Hey, I loved season two, but I could certainly understand the criticism of that season. However, this year was astounding. True, I did very much enjoy the first six episodes this year even though a majority of viewers did not, but I believe it stands true that Lost deserves nominations this year. Pete317 already wrote two great reasons why. I’ll second those reasons!

24 is out.
But ladies and gentlemen, with The Shield and The Sopranos being absolutely stunning, well, it’s going to be a tough race.
But I would love nothing more than to see LOST win.

Unfortunately for LOST, the second “pod” of The Soprano’s final season has been excellent and will be pitted against LOST in all Emmy categories either qualifies to compete in. I say unfortnuately because the writing, directing and acting in this last batch of Soprano’s has been excellent. While the series and its actors have been honored numerous times before, this will be their “last chance.” That always carries a lot of weight with the voters. If LOST does get whacked by The Sopranos there will be three more years in which LOST will be able to compete. The real bummer is that this was Dom’s last chance.

Acctingwise Matthew Fox, Terry O’Quinn and Michael Emerson should at least get nominations. I can’t tell the same for storytelling. In terms of REAL human drama, Lost is not THAT successful. Battlestar Galactica is way better.

I was most surprised at the entries…Kate for I do? No Ben?
Personally, I think they matter and yet don’t. For a newer series esp an underdog like Arrested Development and Twin Peaks before it, if there had been no nominations each would not have continued as long as they did (though they were very short runs). It means less for bigger Hit shows like Lost. What does Lost have to gain other than an award. It has all the viewers it’s gonna get and any insurge will be those who come back to the show IMO.
I am also thinking that they may wait until the final year to give Lost it’s allocades, like Lord of the Rings.

The Sopranos will win just because it’s ending. The Emmy’s tend to do that. Don’t worry, Lost will win again, even if it’s in 2010

I think the first six episodes of this season have ruined and chance lost has of winning best Drama. It should go to The Sopranos.

I totally agree with you Doc, we really need this win. Unfortunately, The Sopranos will probably win because this is it’s last season.
There should be a minimum number of episodes for emmy consideration… Six episodes in a year? Give me a break!

The emmy’s are essentially meaningless. It is something that a network can use for self promotion, and a struggling show can use to buy extra life. However, not getting one is tantamount to getting a hostess cupcake without the cream filling.
Terry O’Quinn should get one for the scene in TMFT where he placed in the wheelchair for the first time.

while i hate to say that awards matter to me, i really hope lost at least gets nominated. i’d love it to win, but to me, it seems the snub from last year affected the viewship of this year. when all people hear is “the show wasnt nominated like it was LAST year” it makes it sound like the show sucks. i think if its at least nominated, more people might tune in, or atleast buy the dvd…then tune in : )

so i posted that last post before i read everyone elses…it sucks to say it, but you guys are right, it’s their last season. they’re gonna win just because of that. i mean, if that crappy last season of friends won that category, i sadly think the sopranos will win this won. but does this really matter? we now have an end-date for lost. i doubt that abc will cut it down, so its not like a lack of award will cause the show to be canceled or anything, so whats the big deal? (besides for the fact lost should win EVERYTHING…even best musical episode or something. EVERYTHING)

was i the only one watching the sopranos this season? The 1st half of the season sucked soo bad… the pace was sooo as balls on a hot steamy day. Now the last three episodes were good, but other then that the season bombed…. anyways
When are the Emmy’s? lol
Comment by jimyy — June 7, 2007 @ 6:31 am
Author Wesley Hyatt may be very respected and all that, but I have to say that I am sick and tired of people criticizing LOST.
…”and as disappointing as the show could be at times this season”…
SERIOUSLY?????
This season had a few slow moments, but even the worst moments were better than most TV programs out there. The brilliance of this show is unsurpassed. From the WTF???!!?? of the first season, to the revelations of the second season and the total awesomeness of the third season, this show deserves an Emmy every year, the fact that it is not recognized by the awards industry, just proves their utter lack of intelligence. Just one LOST fan’s opinion…

I think that Michael Emmerson and Jorge Garcia should be nominated. They are at both ends of the spectrum. Creepy and Cheerful.
The Emmy’s snubbed Susan Lucci for 18 years and I don’t take them serious. They don’t always nominate or give the Emmy to the best actor/actress.
