Looks like my dream O’Quinn vs Emerson match up won’t happen anywhere but right here! Here are the actors that were submitted along with what episode they were submitted for. Can you say, WTF?
Outstanding Drama Series
Lost "The Man From Tallahassee"
Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series
Evangeline Lilly For "I Do"
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Matthew Fox For "A Tale Of Two Cities"
Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Drama Series
Naveen Andrews For "Enter 77"
Daniel Dae Kim For "The Glass Ballerina"
Michael Emerson For "Every Man For Himself"
Henry Ian Cusick For "Flashes Before Your Eyes"
Josh Hollaway For "Every Man For Himself"
Jorge Garcia For "Tricia Tanaka Is Dead"
Dominic Monaghan For "Flashes Before Your Eyes"
Terry O’Quinn For "?" (I’m hearing Tallahassee and Further Instructions)
Outstanding Supporting Actress In A Drama Series
Emilie de Ravin For "Par Avion"
Yunjin Kim For "The Glass Ballerina"
Elizabeth Mitchell For "One Of Us"
Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series
Kevin Tighe For "The Brig"
Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series
Kevin Blanks
Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series
Stephen Williams for "Greatest Hits"

Wtf? I feel like Dominic should’ve been submitted for ‘Greatest Hits’. Flashes was mostly a Desmond episode. This makes no sense to me.

Reserve judgement… it might not be accurate… it’s a work in progress
Comment by DocArzt — June 5, 2007 @ 6:25 pm
Question: Does the person who submitted this not watch lost? Also, you said no Emerson, but I can clearly see him in the supporting actor category.
I think the reason terry o’quinn might not have gotten a nod is because he was absent in so may episodes.
I also think its a bad idea to submit episodes from the first pod because those were generally viewed as not as good. If you can submit Kevin Tighe for The Brig, why not Josh Holloway?
Comment by Jimmy — June 5, 2007 @ 7:04 pm
“No Emerson or O’Quinn for supporting actor?”
…um, I see Emerson listed lol
Comment by South_park300 — June 5, 2007 @ 7:33 pm
I’m added him after the text.
Comment by DocArzt — June 5, 2007 @ 7:39 pm
OK, I’m gonna be honest with you I’ve never been smart when it comes to the nomminations but let me get this straight: Lost can win best drama right? And “The Man from Tallahassee” is representing the entire series right now or is Lost entered into The Best Episode in a Drama Series(if thats evn a category), also can you post the link to the website, I want to see if Heroes is nominated so when Lost wins I can rub it in their faces
Comment by Doug — June 5, 2007 @ 7:46 pm
Doug-
There aren’t any nominations yet but heroes did submit an episode, a crappy one in my opinion, Genesis. They should’ve used Company Man or Five Years Gone.
I also think its silly to judge an entire series based on an episode. The emmy committee or whoever does this, their entire job is watching TV episodes. I don’t put much stock into awards either way.
Comment by James — June 5, 2007 @ 8:03 pm
Well, if any episode can represent this season the best (other than Through the Looking Glass) it would be “The Man from Tallahassee”. Let me get it straight(again): This aren’t the actual nominations that will appear on the screen at the emmys? These are just what is being considered for nominations?
Comment by Doug — June 5, 2007 @ 8:06 pm
Okay, I’ll reserve final judgement until everything’s final, but from what we have here…
I personally thought that Lilly was pretty horrible in “I Do”, particularly in the final scene, where she just fails to bring it.
Fox was good in “A Tale of Two Cities”.
Andrews, Dae Kim, Cusick all made good choices. “Tricia Tanaka Is Dead” isn’t the strongest episode, but it’s Hurley-centric, so I get why it was picked. Hollaway was stronger in, say, “The Brig”, but it’s the same logic with “Every Man For Himself” being Sawyer-centric. At this moment, I’m chosing to believe that the Emerson and Monaghan selections are incorrect data.
de Ravin, Yunjin Kim, and Mitchell all good choices.
Keep us updated!
Comment by S. A. Bonasi — June 5, 2007 @ 8:12 pm
Wow! I think TPTB need to put some more thought into their submissions.
Dominic should’ve had “Greatest Hits” as his submission.
Michael Emerson should’ve had either “The Man from…” or “The Man Behind…” for his submission.
NO TERRY O’QUINN!? ARE YOU INSANE!?
Matthew Fox… eh… it could’ve gone either way, but they probably should’ve gone with part 2 of “Through the Looking Glass.” He’s a pretty consistent actor for how talented he is; so I guess it won’t matter what episode they submitted.
Josh Holloway should’ve been entered for “The Brig.”
I completely agree with the Guest Actor submission and they made an excellent choice for the directing. Seriously, there were some shots in “Greatest Hits” that were nothing but amazing. Especially the one where the camera spins does an accelerated 360 and lands on Karl right after he “tells” his story to the camp. Sorry, Jack, Stevie outdid you with his episodes this year.
Comment by Brian — June 5, 2007 @ 8:18 pm
Disclaimer: Some info is getting confirmed, some is getting denied. I’ll post corrections as I get them, but don’t get too excited just yet. And remember, it would not be wise for them to submit the same four of five episodes if they are trying to get some traction with the awards committee. I think the idea is to get as many episodes as you can in front of the committee. Even though the starring, supporting, and creative all go to different episodes, the more that actually score nominations, the more diverse range of eps the voters will have to look at in considering the big one, “Outstanding Drama Series.”
Call me crazy, but I think LOST has a very good shot at Outstanding Drama. Despite the risks that did not pay off, the series remained true to its spirit of innovation and never once receded to cliches to regain its footing. LOST recaptured its audience simply by doing what it does better than ever before. A lot of the other contenders relied on gimmicks, or worse yet (with Heroes) a conscious effort to answer the complaints of LOST’s fans. Go LOST!

I think Michael Emerson is a strong contender for the Emmy winning, he is undoubtedly talented and will get nominated for sure. But I also think that in The man from Tallahassee or in The man behind the curtain he gets more visibility.
The same goes for M. Fox. He is good and very regular, but in the Finale (especially on part 2) he had a Emmy nomination performance. With the premiere I don’t know if it will be enough for the nom. I would bet on Hugh Laurie or Kiefer Sutherland for the win, and Michael C Hall for a nom. That leaves only two spots and there is too much talent to fill them.
As for Evangeline, I still think she is the weakest link on Lost, but she has been nominated other times (Ellen Pompeo is the other one I don’t get). Who knows…
I would say E. Mitchell has better chances of being nominated. Juliet is a good character and she gives her a strong presence, also One of Us is a great episode, in great part because of her. She only has to beat lots of ladies from Grey’s Anatomy (I would nominate at least 2 of them)
Comment by Nelson D — June 5, 2007 @ 9:26 pm
WTF, Dom should be put in for “Greatest Hits” not “Flashes….” he was amazing in”…Hits”
Comment by DarthVibbert — June 5, 2007 @ 9:52 pm
I agree with the people who’re against Evangeline’s spot in there- speculation/theories/rumors or not, come on- Elizabeth [Mitchell] was such a better actress.
Comment by Donut — June 5, 2007 @ 10:07 pm
Dom should definately be nominated for Greatest Hits.
I also feel Fox and Holloway had better performances in Through the Looking Glass and The Brig, respectively.
Comment by Derek — June 5, 2007 @ 10:18 pm
I agree, as much as you throw a diverse list of episodes at the committee, you don’t get the full picture. Would you rate a book on the best few pages, or a movie on the best few scenes? To fully admire LOST, you’ve got to have sat there from season one, episode one and followed the journey of these characters.
I bet most of the committee members, or the people who make these judgements (I assume it’s not the public?) haven’t seen more than 50% of the entire story, and therefore do not deserve the right to judge or compare the show to any other.
Comment by The Pearl — June 5, 2007 @ 10:53 pm
hey everyone– they had to submit episodes by a certain deadline, so nothing really from catch 22 would have been submitted in these preliminary list.
however, once they have submitted something, they can change it (as shown by the fact that they have switched through the looking glass for best drama with the man from tallahassee).
so i wouldn’t expect michael, matt, or dom (and maybe josh if he choses the brig instead of emfh) to switch the episodes for consideration

Doc, will you update if it turns out Dom’s nomination was wrong? I want to know that he’s being submitted for Greatest Hits. Anything else is absurd. Everyone else is in with their centric ep.
Comment by pj — June 6, 2007 @ 6:18 am
I agree that Josh Hollaway’s best work this season was in “The Brig”
Comment by Jeff — June 6, 2007 @ 6:42 am
yea, dom should totally be greatest hits..and fox should be through the looking glass…i think it was his finest performance of the entire series, not just the season…also, i thought holloway was really good in every man for himself, even though it was so long ago…it was one of if not the best of the pod episodes
Comment by clappy — June 6, 2007 @ 6:50 am
Matthew Fox should get the nomination for “through the looking glass” probably the finest performance I’ve seen from him on this show.
Comment by A3OLIAN — June 6, 2007 @ 7:10 am
how the hell do u not nominate terry!

This is where all the info about Emmy submission episodes comes from, at http://goldderbyforums.latimes.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/1106078764/m/53610293
These submissions were first posted before May, so that’s why none of the May episodes were submitted. The final deadline to change episodes was supposed to be May 31, but they changed it to get the last Sopranos episodes eligible, and the thread still hasn’t said what Lost’s final submissions are- so that gives the series, Matthew, Dominic, and Michael time to change their picks, and for Terry to make his submission official.

I’ll update as it comes along. I know for sure the producers are using “Through the Looking Glass” and not “The Man from Tallahassee”

“evangeline”
Comment by nickk — June 6, 2007 @ 11:22 am
I sent Andy (Dark Ufo) the following information that explains the process.
> 1. Initially, a top 10 is selected in every category. The Academy
> members vote for their favorite shows, actors, writers etc.
> Obviously the top 10 is based on popular vote.
> 2. After the top 10 in each category is selected, the Academy
> members watch one episode with each one of the nominees. The
> episode has to be submitted to the Academy until May 31. The
> episodes that you posted are correct but some of the actors might
> have changed their selection.
> 3. After the nominations are announced, each nominee (actors,
> writers, directors etc.) is supposed to send a tape with 2
> episodes. The nominated shows on the other hand must send 3 tapes
> of 2 episodes each. In other words, a total of 6 episodes.
>
> BTW, Lost according to Variety has send Academy members a DVD with
> the following 3 episodes:
> I do
> Flashes before your eyes
> One of us
Comment by john — June 7, 2007 @ 8:43 am
Um…no way will Dominic get nominated for Flashes. He should of submitted Greates Hits. He isn’t in the episodes except for two scenes. And he didn’t even show much emotion. WTF!
Comment by Nea — June 7, 2007 @ 1:44 pm
What about Josh Holloway in the Brig, his acting was amazing, you could really feel the emotion sawyer had in speaking to the man who had messed up his life. As far as im concerned The Brig was my favourite episode of the season, either that or The Man Behind The Curtain
Comment by JayJay — June 7, 2007 @ 3:33 pm
John, how reliable is Variety? “Flashes Before Your Eyes” and “One of Us” are great episodes, but there are much stronger episodes than “I Do”. Even if they had to draw from earlier episodes, why not “Not In Portland”, “Enter 77″, or “The Man From Tallahassee”. If the information is correct, do you know if they have time to submitt different episodes?
Comment by S. A. Bonasi — June 7, 2007 @ 3:42 pm
They didn’t submit those 3 episodes.
Like I said, the top 10 for each category is based on popular vote, so in order to get the popular vote the networks send DVDs to the academy members.
The episode they submitted is “The man from Tallahassee” according to everything I have heard. No offense to John (Doc) but I don’t know where he heard that they submitted Through the looking glass.
If they are nominated, which is very possible, they will have to submit 6 episodes in sets of 3, so thee 3 episodes could very well be part of the package.
Also, the actors themselves select the episodes they submit.
If an actor is nominated they must submit 2 episodes.
Comment by john — June 7, 2007 @ 3:54 pm
Variety is VERY reliable. If it’s in Variety, you know it’s true.
Comment by john — June 7, 2007 @ 3:55 pm
John, so will the academy members be watching “The Man From Tallahassee” before or after the popular vote?
Comment by S. A. Bonasi — June 7, 2007 @ 5:41 pm
After the popular vote. By popular vote I mean they vote for whatever their favorite shows are. And after a top 10 is selected they watch the episodes that have been submitted, so they can select the 5 nominees in each category.

Jorge Garcia For “Tricia Tanaka Is Dead”
This should be a lock. This was the best episode of Lost to date. I’ve watched it a dozen times, especially when I needed a spritual lift. I smile and almost cry everytime I see Jorge going down the hill and trying to start the darn VDub.
