How could they expect Ben not to realize the tape recorder was gone… c’mon!!! I guess this is where Locke will come to the rescue… ?
Comment by Clark — May 12, 2007 @ 7:02 am
He was close to finding out when Locke came and disrupted the situation. Now it has slipped his mind since Naomi’s presence foils the plan anyways.

I have hated Jack since he became leader. But when I watched this scene, it made me so pumped. I know suddenly start liking him because of that scene.
Comment by Martin — May 12, 2007 @ 7:51 am
What is ridiculous about Jack’s “plan” is that:
1 - He doesn’t know how many are coming.
2 - He should assume that not all of the others would be coming.
3 - He should know that ‘blowing away’ a small ‘hit squad’ of others is only going to bring them back in superior numbers.
As much as I love LOST, there better be a pretty cool swerve to this because I’m having trouble buying that my beloved characters could be this stupid.
It’s like saying, we’re going to take our bb guns… knock that behive out of the tree, and start picking them off one by one.
I expected Jack’s plan to be an assault on the others from a superior vantage point.
Sorry D & C, but the beachies booby trapping the camp is NOT the confrontation that fans have been waiting for, it’s just another diversion to save up that confrontation for another season…
Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 8:00 am

None taken, but you can tell that his plan sucks.
Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 8:19 am
Yeah but Doc these sneak peaks are always clipped together differently then they are presented in the show. They’re sped up, moved around and what not, and we didn’t get all of Jack’s speech. Theres probably more to the plan considering he took them all out there to talk about it.
Also, realistically what else are they supposed to do? They have no guns, only a few are trained in combat, and they still don’t have the home field advantage.
Leaving dynamite in the tents marked with chalk seems like a good idea to me. Not to mention that could just start the battle, not be the whole thing.
Comment by Muscle_Bob_Buff_Pants — May 12, 2007 @ 8:30 am
Come on! I like Jack and everything, but can we trust him AGAIN! Sure the woman won’t be there and the men will be waiting for the other, but who will be protecting the woman? Juliet? Good plan but Jack is going to betray them.. The plan is just to simple and dumb.
Comment by AJ — May 12, 2007 @ 8:32 am
Richard asked ben if he wanted him to bring the tape back to Juliet…. to the medical station.
Ben got all upset and said “I recorded it yesterday before we left. I thought you already took it.”
Then he came out of the tent to ask Tom where the tape was.
So Ben apparently didn’t notice it was missing if he thought it was at the station.
Comment by lizzie — May 12, 2007 @ 8:39 am

See, that is the problem MBBP. They will at best kill 5/6 others which will only infuriate them as a whole. So yeah, for one wave where they have the element of surprise they kill a few, which only provokes a more aggressive attack from the others for which they do not have the resources to fight.
Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 8:56 am
Yeah but Doc we still don’t know the full plan. Hell, they’ve already killed Others in small waves and no real retaliation has happened. Remember last season finale? They killed an Other trailing them, nothing happened. They killed Ethan, Goodwin, Colleen, and Klugh….no retaliation.
Comment by Muscle_Bob_Buff_Pants — May 12, 2007 @ 9:02 am
I also think this little plan is going to spark a big battle in the finale. Because they said that there would be a big battle in the finale, not this episode. But i think it will work, but maybe not as good as they planned. They’ll succeed in blowing up an other or two, which will be cool nonetheless, but not the battle we’ve been waiting for, that will be in the finale. I watched evangeline on jimmy kimmel, and she said the “snake in the mailbox” moment gave her goosebumbs, and being an actress on a show such as lost, you kind of get used to fucked up things happeneing, so to get goosbumbs like she has’nt gotten before, means something sick, twisted, and tottally awesome is going to happen! She also said she would walk if abc decided to go longer than 3 more seasons, so i guess its pretty safe to say she doesnt die this season, or else why would she be concerned about 3 years from now? either that or she is creating a diversion
Comment by Jess — May 12, 2007 @ 9:17 am
I think think when Ben says “if they get in your way, kill them.” he is referring to Richard and some of the ‘hostile’ faction who have joined up with Locke, and that Locke will lead them to the beach to make peace and inadvertently walk them into a trap setting up the locke/jack confrontation for the finale….
This could be a red herring.

Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 9:52 am
I don’t believe we are going to see any confrontation between the 815ers and the Hosthers (coining new contraction) in “Greatest Hits.” This scene is probably the extent of the preparation for the battle that will come in “Through the Looking Glass.” I suspect that the focus of “Greatest Hits” will be on Naomi, her crossing with Charlie in his flashbacks, childhood Charlie flashbacks with a near drowning incident, and an attempt to contact Naomi’s ship that ends with Charlie drowning after successfully connecting the underwater cable. That’s a lot to cover and still expect to see any kind of battle, or even skirmish.
Comment by gusteaux — May 12, 2007 @ 10:31 am
Oh yeah, and a tortured Charlie scene that inspires him to write a song. That should just about fill 40 minutes.
Comment by gusteaux — May 12, 2007 @ 10:34 am
I don’t care what you guys say, this clip is damn cool.
“We stop hiding, we stop running, we stop living in fear of them cuz when they show up, we’re gonna blow ‘em all to hell”
Also, this clip only reveals that the women aren’t going to be in their tents. No reference to dynamite, or any part of the plan. You guys can’t say this is dumb without knowing a more than one part of the plan.
Comment by doug — May 12, 2007 @ 10:44 am
Perhaps Jack’s finale flashback will reveal that he has been, all along, a bloodthirsty strategic genius who has murdered many people. Jack could be just the right guy for this lunatic plan.

Comment by steve — May 12, 2007 @ 11:06 am
Jack and Juliet met with Rosseau and she was getting the dynamite — to help with their plan.. this is probably why they were gone for “so long”
Or.. Maybe they tie one end of a rope to the sunken helicopter, and the other to Hurley. Hurley drags the helicopter to shore, Sayid gets it flying again, and then Naomi uses the quad rocket launchers on the helicopter to blow up the marked tents.. yea I like that plan better than dynamite in the tents.

IMPORTANT HINTS:
1. Juliet says “Sorry I lyed to you Sun”
- However, Juliet never lied to sun. Nowehre did she say anything in the ocntrary to what is going to happen. I think she was pologizing for lying to sun on a completely differnet topic. Maybe that she really didnt get pregant on the island? Or about the health of the baby?
2. The grey sand we saw in last weeks episode..could it have been a trail of gun powder if lit ummmm BLOWS SHIT UP?
3. I’m gonna put money on Charlie dying just for the mere fact that we;ve been getting prepared for this for awhile but it is also to be expected that their gonna thro us through a loop and kill someone we loe. which SUCKS and it better not be locke (cant be!) cuz I, along with a lot of other viewers wold just stop watching (at least for a little while)

I agree with Doc, Jack’s plan is braindead, and coupled with his sudden attitude problem this season, I just don’t understand what’s going on with his character. I would chalk it up to cheap writing, but…
I have a lot of faith in the writers, so I think that the “snake in the mailbox” reveal will help us understand why Jack has become such an idiot.
Comment by Joe — May 12, 2007 @ 11:28 am
If the plan is to blow ‘em all up, I guess the dynamite’s from the black rock i.e. Rousseau must be in on the plan…When did that happen & since when does Jack trusts her?…flashback time….

Maybe Sun says something like “I’m going to die no matter what so I might as well … ??? strap dynamite to myself and blow up some others?” and Juliet says wait a second.. I’m sorry I lied to you..
Possibilities: Sun’s D.O.C. was actually off-island.. or maybe women who get pregnant on the island don’t really die.
Just throwing out some ideas.

Doc,
Ben says 3 teams our coming. I would assume this total to be about 10 to 15 people. Also, what would your plan to be, hide somewhere on the haunted damn island. Don’t think that would work in the long run. Best bet would be to surprise attack the others & when that is over go to high ground to see if you can get the sat. phone to work
Comment by Wayne — May 12, 2007 @ 11:52 am
MBBP what question is that
Comment by steve — May 12, 2007 @ 12:02 pm
problem is that ben knows his tape recorder was stolen, and should know therefore that the 815′ers will have a fair idea of whats going to happen; if he hasnt decided that juliet’s probably been “compramised” by now, ill be surprised!
Further to this…i reckon Locke’ll jump in and stop the whole affair from getting too messy, perhaps…thereby bringing he and jack into conflict
Comment by mw — May 12, 2007 @ 12:18 pm
@ Rachel; I haven’t seen the episode in a while, but I think Juliet lied on some small things to Sun. For example, Juliet said she was going back in to the hatch to double check some tests, when in reality she was essentially going back in to report to her boss that Sun was worth kidnapping. I’d apologize too.
Trust me.
P.S. Rachel, that wasn’t gunpowder.
@ Doc; I don’t think this is such a horrible plan. I agree the clip is cut funny as per usual (most notably after Jack says “we’re here”) and that plays a part of it. But I think MBBP is on the right track. Believe it or not, here is what I always taught my Jrs and Srs at school: bully the bully. When you can’t ignore it anymore, and you can’t reason with them, and there is no one to turn to for help, you only have one option left. Bully the bully.
I support Jack’s idea completely, assuming he and/or Juliet really are not double crossing our 815ers.
“Do not go gentle into that good night. Rage, RAGE against the dying of the light.” ~ Dylan Thomas
Blow some of them up, even if it is only 5 or 6 of them. Hit them with anything you’ve got from snares to dynamite, punji pits to throwing coconuts. You do what you have to do, and you keep one alive and, especially with Sayid’s help, you GET some answers. Finish it all off by throwing last season’s infamous “You came in to OUR HOUSE” scene with Tom back at the others. Walk in to their camp (with directions from Juliet or a tortured other), drop the dead bodies, and remind them that everyone has a breaking point.
Comment by evangelicalpoet — May 12, 2007 @ 12:47 pm
Isn’t LOST a really fun puzzle?
Jack’s plan seems idiotic on the surface. But emotionally speaking, it makes sense. He’s been imprisoned and manipulated and may never be rescued. He wants to lash out and destroy.
But you gotta believe that Ben knows that Jack knows. ben has been portrayed as the Master of Strategy and Manipulation. If Ben is caught off guard by the Losties, it will be out-of-character, and, by the way, SATISFYING. Ben deserves a tail-whuppin.
Overall, the video clip was as exciting as can be and I am on pins and needles waiting for the last two episodes.
LOST, so far, ranks as one of the best (maybe THE best) science-fiction TV shows ever made.

My question was about the Purge in the podcast. They confirmed that what we saw was only a taste of things to come and we will see more about the Dharma vs Hostile war and they even side tracked and further confirmed a Danielle flashback with Montand losing his arm and what not.
Comment by Muscle_Bob_Buff_Pants — May 12, 2007 @ 12:59 pm
and for all we know, in the actual episode when that particular segement ends, Sawyer could say something like “That plan is stupid Jack, here’s what we’re really gonna do” or Sayid will be like “We can’t trust this plan Jack. We can’t trust you. Here’s the real plan…” who knows
either way, there’s supposed to be a big battle in the finale, and i can’t wait!
Comment by South_park300 — May 12, 2007 @ 1:03 pm
Come on guys! This is what we have been waiting for! The big finale where some people are gonna get killed and all hell will break loose.. it’s better than just uncovering another mystery we are gonna have to wait seasons to find out the answer to..
Imagine if Jack died!! :O :O
Jack sounded pretty convincing. They have guns, dynamite and don’t forget Danielle who knows the island and is a master at setting up traps.. she trapped Ben so she will be able to trap any of his little buddies.
And i don’t think we can trust Juliet. Is she counting on the Losties doing this and maybe reporting to Ben and the Others where they are hiding and come and attack them there?
The Man Behind the Curtain was a great episode! Locke isn’t dead because they cut away from him at the end and also in the finales description it mentions him and the big battle. Who’s side he is on. now thats a toughie! I think he is on the Others side now. And i really hope none of my fave characters Hurley, Charlie or Sawyer will get killed though there has been lots of speculation about Charlie
Comment by Kate Fan x — May 12, 2007 @ 1:41 pm
The grey powdery stuff was either gun powder or VOLCANIC ASH! it is on a volcanic island.. the teacher last episode was teaching about volcanoes and the props are right on hand in Hawaii.
But they seemed to make a big deal of it when they showd Locke touch it so maybe it is something entirely different.
Comment by OCEANIC815 — May 12, 2007 @ 1:47 pm
apparently I heard that jack accidentaly blows kate up in this fight which is what seperates the lost camp into two half going with jack and half with locke, i doubted this at first but since another two woman are yet to die which haven’t been announced and the use of dynamite seems a possibility now, and you know what kates like you know she’ll end up coming back to help jack out!

Well yeah… you either didn’t read my comment, or you’re just naturally disagreeable. I WOULD surprise attack the others, totally. As in all of them. Not wait for an excursion team and hijack them. The others are better equipped, the first strike has to be devastating, because when they retaliate if they are not significantly weakened the losties are toast.
But it doesn’t matter because I guarantee you the showdown is a red herring. The finale is going to be about something else entirely.
Comment by docarzt — May 12, 2007 @ 2:06 pm
I agree think it could be a red herring but if its not what better way to suprise attack them in your own back yard where you no and no most of the others will be coming thanks to juliet.
Rather than going to a place your not very familiar with and having to rely on luck to kill them because you dont no where they will etc etc.
Comment by steveuk — May 12, 2007 @ 2:20 pm
Because you don’t know what kind of force you’re facing or how much damage your going to actually inflict. This is the way a long conflict would start, not end.
To Poets point: I agree. But this is not bullying the bully, this is waiting behind the dumpster to sucker punch him. Now if they infiltrated the barracks and started blowing up some bungalows, that might send a stronger message.
Or better yet, since we know they fear smoky… take the fence out and let the smoke monster deal with them.
I’m still holding out that the confrontation will lead to a more cerebral plot. The same was true for “live together die alone.”
Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 2:32 pm
But Doc….DarkUFO not only knows who will die (he’s got 3 of them up on his site) but he also knows what the game changer is. He is just an ordinary fan like us but somehow he is privy to a lot of info.
You, as I understand it, work for EW and I see you interview a lot of the cast. Don’t you know as much if not more than DarkUFO?
So what I’m really saying is, are you telling us that the showdown is a red herring or are you speculating that it is a red herring?
Comment by Muscle_Bob_Buff_Pants — May 12, 2007 @ 2:44 pm
I do not work for EW. there are actually seven deaths, five people we know and two we will meet in the final episodes. And I’d guess Dark does not know the actual Game Changer cause he and I compare notes on off the record info all the time and he would have mentioned it by now.
Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 2:59 pm

Comment by DocArzt — May 12, 2007 @ 3:00 pm
They really don’t have that many options. They’ve only got a limited number of resources. Jack is the wild animal that has been cornered, and he feels that he -finally- has some sort of advantage. It might not be much, but it’s all they’ve got
Locke has become quite the wild card. It’ll be interesting to see how he works into all of this.

Seven people wil die?!!! Oh goodness no! Richard had better not die in the next episode. Or in any other (no pun intended) episode for that matter… I hope to God that he isn’t one of the ones killed. I also have a feeling that the DHARMA initiative is going to be realized as the real bad guys soon, and not the “Hostiles”. I mean, they did go to the island and invade on the original inhabitant’s land, killing them and such…
For me, the clip wasn’t so spectacular as I was expecting (Maybe it was just missing the suspenseful music). I knew this was coming.
Comment by Brown (aka Gewher) — May 12, 2007 @ 3:55 pm
In the words of Michael “Who are you people?”
Seriously so are you Jeff Jensen who writes reviews at Dark’s site? I asked over there but no one answered me. If not for EW who do you work for?
So I bet Bonnie and Greta are the two female deaths? They’re two new characters in the last two episodes and what not.
If you break it down, the 2 female deaths are kind of hard to figure out.
It can’t be Kate, Juliet, Danielle, Isabel, and Cindy for various reasons like not being in the episode and future flashbacks.
It would be cruel to kill off Sun but she could be one of them, Rose could die, and Claire might bite the dust but with Charlie gone who would logically raise Aaron?
Anyway as I jump back and forth between topics I go back to who you are. So you and Dark have inside connections? How does one acquire inside connections?
Final random thought, I am going to Hawaii on my honeymoon next April and hopefully they will still be filming Season 4 so you and Dark will get some primo pics if I can snap them.

Lol. Well I work for BuddyTV. I am Jon Lachonis, not Jeff Jensen, though I speak with Jeff frequently and consider him a friend (even if he despises me
)
How does one get inside connections? You don’t! You get extremely lucky! You run a site, you give it your all, you act in the best interest of the show, and all that good Karma just pays off. It can actually get much more interesting then you’d think. There are plenty of funny stories to be told.
My work with BuddyTV does sort of bring me within striking distance of the publicists. I’ve talked to folks from heroes, jericho, BattleStar Galactica, Veronica Mars, etc.

There will be a big reminder this season that on the island, it
Comment by 1miletogo — May 13, 2007 @ 5:49 am
Another possibility which would allow them to side step the tsunami is that the island is apparently surrounded by some kind of field. Remember, Desmond sailed in circles as if the ocean were bent some how.
Wouldn’t it be interesting, though, if naomi’s freighter washed ashore and it had a big ol dharma logo on it…

Doc, i think i speak for everyone when i say thank you for all your input (though it’s obviously hypothetical and specualtion) and the amount of time you put into the tailsection. Its like the entertainment just doesnt end on wednesday night, thru this - it lasts allllll week. Also, if you could, through any contacts you might have…tell them we all want a Richard episode. Don’t all their Finale plans suck DocArtz?
Locke and Jacks lets blow open a hatch we have no idea whats inside but im sure its safe … and we have no real way of organizing 40+ so that they get down there in a an efficient manner.
Locke’s lets not push the button wasn’t such a good idea, and Jack’s I know michael is lying to us but lets formulate an attack strategy assuming that some of the info he is telling us is true and lets lead some other people into the jungle trusting michael is going the right way without telling the other people the real plan.
Basically all of their plans were terrible except maybe Michaels raft idea which wouldnt have worked but based on the info at the time was fairly well thought out.
Im sure the gamechanger will screw up whatever rescue plans they have this time and the Others vs. 815s will turn into Others & 815s vs. someone else
Comment by vahan solar — May 13, 2007 @ 11:02 am

Also, it seemed that in the last episode everyone just believed her load of crap right away. I mean, Sawyer played her tape, and then Jack and her walk up and all she says is “turn the tape over” and then everyone just seems to forget that they just found she was going to give them over to the Others. Even though Jack said that she just told him, everyone was thinking immediately before that, that Jack was with the Others anyway. Sayid and Sawyer better try to convince everyone to have a back up plan.
My advice to the losties would be to tie her up or something, and then duke it out with the Others. There is no way that she is still not on the Others side, and will do anything to thwart the losties. And who knows Jack may actually be in it with her.

I have one other question that maybe someone could answer for me. Why does Locke seem to hate Mikhail so damn much? Other than the obvious answer that Mikhail is an Other, this seems to be a little out of character for Locke. I mean, first Locke pushes Mikhail through the forcefield which was supposed to kill him, which Locke has never done before. And then he beats the crap out of him in front of all the Others.
Usually Locke gives people the benefit of the doubt. I mean even when the losties had Ben captive, Locke was the only one who was really nice to him even after they had caught Ben in the lie about his identity. So i guess the fact that he really hates Mikhail so much, without Mikhail actually doing anything directly to him, is out of his character. Any thoughts??

its not c4 but dynamite and me thinks dannielle is going to blow up the others camp while jack and co ambush the others and hold them hostage locke will arrive and battle with jack resulting in a death (hopefully jack dies) as this happens a government black ops team arrives on the island to investigate the island.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Sure, he may have beat the crap out of Mikhail to prove a point to Ben. And he may have wanted to test the waters with the fence, but Locke isn’t usually that cruel. I still think he picked up a bit of info at the Flame Station that we still don’t know about. He could have found out that Mikhail really was ex-dharma, like Ben and is pissed about it. Although he was pretty nice to Desmond, who basically was Dharma. Also, maybe the fact that Mikhail was responsible for the others “cheating” and communicating with the outside world really hits a nerve. I really don’t know, but I sure would like to figure it out.

Er… am I being naive here, or does this make sense?
1. Ben now knows the dictaphone tape recorder is missing. A few enquiries among the Others will no doubt reveal that it must have disappeared when they were at their first camp.
2. Ben knows that Locke saw him put it in the drawer in his tent.
3. Therefore Ben may well conclude that Locke took it.
4. Ben does not know what Locke did between being left at the first camp and arriving at the second camp with the dead-dad-mail-bag-on-shoulder delivery.
5. Ben might suspect that Locke had, in that time, had contact with the Lostaway lot.
6. Ben knows what was on both sides of the tape recording.
7. If Ben is as clever, disingenuous and dastardly as he has shown himself to be since childhood, surely he must assume that one or more of the Lostaways will have played the tape and know of his plans for “the night after tomorrow” and his wish for Juliet to “mark their tents”.
8. Should not Ben therefore revise his strategy and, more importantly in a way, should not smart-ass Jack be able to work out the steps I’m listing here and conclude that Ben knows that the Lostaways know that he will probably know that they know what he is planning?
9. Or am I giving Jack more credit - in terms of logical thinking - than he deserves (or has previously shown)?
10. Could not, therefore, any trap Jack is thinking of setting end up being one into which the Lostways fall rather than the Others?
Oooo. The tension is unbearable (tee hee)!

did anyone notice in the last episode in the classroom flashback when the teacher has all the children together when the hostiles invade that when the camera cuts to the people outside with the guns that one of them says “mikhail” out loud, me thinks mikhail lost his eye on the island not in the soviet afganistan war but it could be possible if revealed in a mikhail flashback

Yeah i think that this scenario may be plausible. This may explain why the big showdown doesnt happen until the finale. If Ben figures this all out, then maybe he waits one more night.
Another scenario i have been thinking about, is what if Jack is working with the Others and he and Juliet are intentionally getting the Losties ready for a fight on the worng night, then they end up getting blindsided the night after. This could also be what causes the rift in the group afer the fact. Many losties may start to think that Jack set them up and want to split from his leadership, while some may think that the Others just outsmarted them once again and actually want to stay with Jack.

Or what if…
something happens that we can’t even sort of guess what it will be?
Did anyone, ANYONE, even remotely think that there would be 2 guys sitting up in the snow waiting for an alarm to sound so they could call Penny and let her know?
The showdown will happen, yes, but it won’t be what the finale is really ABOUT. Something else is going to happen in the last 5 minutes that we cannot possible guess. And based on the way they talk about the “snake in the mailbox” on the podcasts and having to be “deranged” to do what it is they are doing - I think our beloved show is about to take a major plot turn.
I’m still hoping for that last close-up shot of a bare foot with four toes… the natives are loose!!!

What if Julliet is still complotting with Ben and doublecrossing Jack and all the Losties?
What if the tape was just a mislead? And the others will attack te camp on a different day or place…
Let’s not forget she realy wants to leave the island and seeing her sister and the kid.
Also in the promotion trailer the guy screamed:” my people are coming!”
and it was day time, not night as the attack was supposed to take place. This may indicate Ben had changed the attacking plans.
Or Ben knows Julliet is on the losties side now and then changed his attack plan.
I think the end of season 3 will be like this:
we will know a little more of who/what Jacob is.We’ll see the development of the attack.Sayid discovers a flaw in the other’s communcation /island protecting system. (it has something to do with the cable in the sand, leading to the water.Probabely there’s something on the bottom of the sea). And the season ends with a cliffhanger: will Charlie die helping getting the losties rescued.we’ll probabely not know until next season.
We’ll see….

Locke and Mikhail have a history which we haven’t seen yet. “The John Locke I knew was para…” Locke wants Mikhail dead. The missing crossing will be visited at some point…yet another reason why Locke will live.

See comment above. AND, Desmond was not Dharma. Des was stuck in the hatch, pushing the button (to save the world) after he was “rescued” by Kelvin. He remained in the hatch pushing the button after he’d killed Kelvin until the 815ers arrived. He then immediately bailed.

Fuck the finale! Several people have leaked the snake in the mail box, whether you want it or not here it is…
Everybody is getting ready to leave with the members of naomi’s team… some actually make it off the island.. and jack fucking KILLS them! He rigged one of the rescue boats to explode and it sinks the freighter. Then he has a flashback and you see that he killed Sarah, her boyfriend, and his father! He’s a nutjob! AND there is a control room for smokey, they can’t control it but they can watch what it reads from peoples minds….

If no one from the Others left the tape Ben recorded for Juliet, how would she know to mark the tents with the white rocks?
Surely Ben will realize this and when he sees the white rocks, know it is a trap.
